Actually, rock n roll did originate with Black musicians. The term "rock n roll" itself was old Black slang for sex, it can be heard in songs long before rock n roll music existed, back to the 1920s or 1930s. Technically, the original "rock n roll" is like an earlier version of what was later called "blue eyed soul". Which is rhythm & blues (previously called "race music") by white artists. The early rock n roll acts charted on the Billboard R&B chart too like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, even Conway Twitty (who later switched to country music). The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Fleetwood Mac (original lineup), etc were all doing music based on blues and R&B. Rockabilly is R&B mixed with country. Country swing is country mixed with jazz, bluegrass has jazz elements too. Rock n roll became known as "white music" because some of the later offshoots like progressive rock had less blues influence and more European music such as classical. The audience for rock was mainly white & largely male. In the 1960s a lot of the younger Black audience abandoned the blues, they considered it low class or "country"/hillbilly. They went with soul, which was considered more high class than blues. B.B. King has spoken about this abandonment. Some Motown & Stax artists blew up and crossed over. Notice that with jazz & blues a lot of the audience for those today is often largely white, no matter what the race of the artist is. It was the white artists, particularly the British Invasion ones, who would shout out the Black blues singers, put them on their tours, or record with them.
Man I was just thinking "Kid n Play" as firemen would've been a great comedy movie!!! Maybe they should do that have younger actors play them n have cameos of classic rappers in it!!! 😁😁😁🤔🔥🏆🤩
Yo this is like Christmas I been watching house party since I was 2 I’m 36 going on 37 and it’s still my most favorite movie of all time. I know every word front and back “Chris finish your breakfast boy!” RIP Pop. I still wanna meet these guys
I was in High School when Do This My Way hit the airways then ya'll hit us with the video and introduced us to the kick step auh such pure genuine memories. Love the podcast.
Toe to toe kid n play on a roll again. Its only right to keep the crowd dancing, rhymes with dope the temple was steady you're ready let's rip up the floor like confetti.
Kid is wild af! I see why their dynamic hasn't missed a beat through all of their transitions in life and career. Now, they need their flowers on a grand scale. I need a lifetime achievement award/tribute from soul train, b.e.t or vh1 or hip hop honors. They more than earned it.
I want to comment this and give praise and flowers to these two. these guys friendship is similar to my friendship with my childhood friend of 35 years who passed away in February. Thank you Kid n Play for being part of hip hop 💐
👍I'm glad you guys are doing introspective segments without guest too. We learn so much more about Kid N Play and the journey. 🍸Salute🍸 from South Side Jamaica Queens 👑ALLDAY👑
John Legend is a 🦝. No one disrespects Kid and Play because we know you guys are real black men. This is from VA. My mom put me on to you guys in the early 90s. Your music has not left my playlist since. Love you guys.
I had no idea Christopher Reid was so funny lol! I feel like you can drink a Red Stripe beer or Ting grapefruit soda and just crack jokes. 💯 If you’re Jamaican then you already know those drinks.🍺 Respect Kid 🤝
nbc should give them their own show now ,where its comedy show as them grown with families after hip hop...Live crowd and all produced by Q.jones WHERE PLAY IS THE FAMILY MAN ,AND KID AS THE SINGLE UNCLE #YOURWELCOME
Big shout out to kid'n'play, watching your movies and listening your music in the nineties got me through a dark time in my life where i didn't want to carry on in life.
First of all, thank you to the algorithms for directing me to a favorite duo of mines. Second, this is definitely long over due (looking for more). Question for you gentlemen, why haven't ya'll collaborated with Will Smith on a track? Thank you for sharing those days that were considered The Golden Years of Hip-Hop.
Kid 'n Play was originally considered for the role in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but the role ultimately went to Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Christopher Reid of Kid 'n Play told Mad Skillz that he and Martin believed that if they said no to the sitcom deal, they would still get their cartoon and a sitcom. However, NBC went with Smith and Jeff for the sitcom, which became The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Reid later admitted that he and Martin didn't consider the bigger picture and only focused on their own wants.
Hey guys great podcast I've been listening to your music and watching you on TV and movies for quite a while and I do remember the kid in play cartoon house party is such a great movie I could rewatch that over and over again what I miss is your guys hairstyle anyway keep up the great work it's so nice to see you guys again
Fun fact: Kid 'n Play was originally supposed to be on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alongside with Will Smith, D.J. Jazzy Jeff, the late great James Avery, Alfonzo Ribeiro, Janet Hubert-Whitten, Karyn Parsons, Tatyana Ali, and Joseph Marcell.
Woww this a great episode 😊😊😊 you need to talk about Select Records?? How you dealt with Fred Meneo 😂😂😂 my cuz out of Detroit had dealing with him and says Fred is funny azz hell 😂😂😂
Me and my cousin practiced that dam dance so much but we could never get it once we turned around. I learned that dam leg hurdle with the vacuum though lol
I will never understand why entertainers think they know what's best for them all the time. You have agents and a creative team for a reason. The fact they choose a cartoon over a sitcom is wild smh.
Kid n mother kcufing play.. Great to see you guys still kcufing with one another... Great memories just need bhalial Martin Lawrence at least as a guest........
With Legends like KRS-One and Busta Rhymes saying that hip hop started with the Caribbean and Puerto Ricans it be dope for y'all to get legends like Charlie Chase and crazy legs up there to share their experiences
@@100timessquare Shan was barely 25 when the show aired smh y'all mfs exaggerate anything. Will was 22 and playing a 16 year old. It's a show though, plenty of late 20s early 30s people playing high schoolers still, if you still look youthful enough you can pull it off. Let's not act like a lot of folks in school didn't look old as fuck in their teens.
You guys are dope, been dope! Hey man, you guys keep explaining everything like there are youngins watching. I'm sure the majority of your audience is of age. We know what the hell you're talking about! Lol.

I was 10 years old when House Party first opened in theaters. No shade to Robin Harris, but I could not understand his slurred speech sometimes. When he forbid Kid from going to the party and said, "It'd be different if Peter's parents were going to be there," I thought he said "Peter Pan." As if to say he wouldn't have a problem with the party if it were kid-friendly. No pun intended. Also, when he crashed the party and said to Bilal, "Sounds like something you catch on your feet," I thought he said, "sounds like somebody catch you on your feet." As if to say "Bilal" sounded like a cartoon sound effect when a character lands feet first or something. 🤷♂
It's like they switched personalities in real life now not just Class Act.... This is dope
This is easily your strongest episode yet. The chemistry between you guys is so entertaining to watch.
Been rolling with Kid n Play since high top fades!!
This is my new favorite podcast salute to Kid N Play

Need Martin on the show
That would be fire 🔥
Facts
Know they got dumb stories
Man that would be awesome
That would be dope, but Martin is different from what we remember.
