It's funny how this one skit summed up just about every episode of Good Times.
Every damn one!!
Cause they were all the same.
@@brewer921 As are most sitcoms.
Like the one kid that was always kneeling behind the couch. He never moves in this clip. Funny stuff.
I forbade my children to watch it. They're grown now and I don't think they watch it either.
They combined so much tragedy into one sketch. 😂
"Would it be a bad time to tell yall I got sickle cell?"😂😂
A typical episode.. 😂😂
This was how it was 😂
Not enough tragedy as the original but close...
Lmfao
Maya doing both Wilona and Thelma perfectly is just brilliant!
I was thinking the same thing!
Maya nailed Thelma (so dramatic especially that run out the room)😂😂😂😂😂
Yes! I kept rewinding it and laughing. It was so Thelma!
That was a perfect Thelma!
She ran out as Thelma and came right back in as Winona.
Quick change artist. 👍🏿
They didn't even give "penny" her due applause damn damn damn. Its Janet Jackson playing her original role.
Whack, dead ass audience.
She’s beautiful
Yea seriously, they were probably mostly white and never heard of the show
😄😄😄
A black audience would have. That's for damn sure.
The fact that this fool turned around looking like Florida Evans literally had me hollering.
DavidD2real YES!!! Me too!
Rain Norris I lost it. Seriously lost it. He a damn fool lol
DavidD2real im in here rollin on the floor🤣🤣
🤣😂🤣😂
Yes! With her same exact look on his face!
Kenan's face when he first turns around is perfect.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
These actors killed it. Having Janet Jackson play Penny was genius. Florida cussing just made it authentic. I loved Good Times.
This was legit like an episode of Good Times... like the plot of 7 different episodes in one.
Right? What a fantastic show!!
Mmmm hmmm 😂😂😂😜
Black Girl Magic I
😂😂😂😂😂 I felt the same way. The ending.
Joshuaoaks you r😁😀😁😁😁
Apparently, the audience wasnt alive during the running of Good Times or the Janet Jackson/Penny reprise would have been a bigger applause.
11Stucat
Penny looking pretty damn good at 50.
Agreed!
I'm old AND old school. One of my favorite shows! You're right, 11Stucat...most ppl watching these videos weren't born in my generation. I grew up in the 70s and 80s. We've advanced as a country in some ways, but adults who were in their 30s, 40s, etc were old enough to have lived through Wartime, the Great Depression, etc and knew how to live on less and be happy anyway. I learned how to value thrift from my grandparents, how to cook and throw very little away...and how to repurpose and upcycle what you have. Appreciate, take pride. As a kid in the 70s when it seemed to me that everyone was kinda broke, I was still happy. Florida Evans almost always met her difficulties with faith and determination. Esther Rolle's nephew chatted with me once. Great family. ❤
Her character in this send up was the weakest of the lot.
@@1Rdby She's such a beauty.
Maya Rudolph is probably the most underrated actress ever. She’s incredible in every single film/show that she does
Ethan porto : wtf are you talking about ..she acts and sounds the same damn self in every single skit . glad she s gone .
they should have used an actual black female to play thelma and winona
@@ericthemidget6309 Maya did a fantastic job playing Thelma and Winona. Plus Maya is black. Would u call drake, tiger woods, Carmelo Anthony, Halle berry and Obama not black? Because their all just as black as Maya. It’s not good to be ignorant.
Maya Rudolph and Esther Roll
😆👏She is the REAL DEAL when it comes to comedy 🤗 And the daughter of Minnie🥰🙏
Still can't get over how the audience barely laughed. This was a perfect parody 😂
@Aaron D. Digby, Sr. 😂😂😂😂
It's possible the audience comprised of Generation Z and millennial, who didn't grow up with 70s Norman Lear television, ie Good Times. It's a shame because Good Times was a classic x
@@tamjac10 This skit was made in 2004, so it was definitely older people.
@Aaron D. Digby, Sr. well they also said Nixon was going to be po folks friend.
This copied the wayans brothers one
... and the fact that Janet's voice basically sounds the EXACT same makes it that much more HILARIOUS! 😭😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ye Yo Ra Supreme - She looks pretty young there too.
@@norakat She must have been around 36, 37 I'm guessing.
And she is fine as always
Yep!
She was 38 here
The scariest thing is how much Keenan sounds like Florida Evans
boss chick, and looks...
@@foofy3406 yes! I remember the "Damn damn damn!" So uncharacteristic for Flo that it made an.impact Keenan is on point
@Joe Casson Are you forgetting Garrett Moris?
@@missmarymary6506 I remember the actual moment on Good Times. Poor Florida had done her best, powering through James' funeral, wake and reception at the apartment, and kept it together until only her blood family was there. Carrying that huge punch bowl and then - boom!
@@shoresean1237 oh that's right! Thank you!!
They did a very good job! Seeing Janet Jackson reprise her role (Penny) was an awesome surprise! 👍🏆
@Aaron D. Digby, Sr. You mean Thelma, Janet Jackson played Penny. lol
Probably one of the most accurate parodies they've ever done
"They ran out of books and my teacher got stabbed" 🤣
Good times😂👌
That's a comment about today.
Keenan as Florida is everything.
I came back to watch specifically for him. When he first turned around, I lost it!
sxm76 Especially when he bared Florida’s signature gap between her teeth.
thefly21 💕💕💕💕💕
Agreed. He's an amazing character actor.
Yesss!
I legit thought she/kenan was running over to the fridge to grab that casserole just to say damn damn damn again lol
It’s insane how accurate the skit is, it’s like something out of an actual episode of good times.
I've seen every single episode of Good Times and they killed this.
ruclips.net/video/aQCrjA6aVZA/видео.html
They did.
Kenan was a damn good Florida, and Maya was a good Wilona (Thelma only OK). The comedian doing Michael. They were all good. Janet's part simply didn't call for any flexin'.
JJ with sickle-cell at the end was icing on the cake.😂😂😂😂
@@lql1094 I agree you gotta admit though that Thelma storm off was funny as hell.
I could give each one praise but they ALL were spot on !!
Credzbpt 1 Yes they did!💕💕💕💕😂😂😂😂😂
This is all of Good Times in one episode
The Wayan's had an episode similar to this one
Six minutes lol.
kissit012 Lamaaao yes
kissit012 the Lord is my German shepherd Lol
Not quite. It's missing Sweet Daddy, Ned the Wino. and Lootin' Lennay (who could always save you some pennays).
“Would this be a bad time to tell y’all that I got sickle cell.” 😂
_"Good TIIIIIMMESSSS..."_
This is epic! They nailed the characters!
As a viewer who remembers the original, this was brilliant!!!
Yes. The Willona black eye, and Michael getting accept into the school just to get dropped a the precipice of achieving something that might get him outta the ghetto, are classic Good Times plot turns. Then of course the lottery tickets getting eaten that would have definitely gotten them out. Like when Thelma's husband injured himself right before getting his NFL contract.
And the picture of Ned the Wino aka Black Jesus is on point...like it's the original.
And then they have real Penny there playing penny.
Yes.... perfection
Epic
Jonathan Reed Good
@@Yobachi2007 I think it was the original.
He actually did a great job playing Florida Evans
He was Awesome!!!😆😆

What can’t Kenan do?! I love the way he throws himself into every role he does. One of the most talented comedic actors alive!
This was basically a full episode
This was basically a full season into one episode! Lol
So what? Is that good or bad?

Yes this was quite a tribute to Good Times
this has been on youtube for 5 years and i'm just now seeing it? Wow.

Why did he have to keep picking up that cornbread though??! I was weak lolol
Seeing Janet acting as Penny really warmed my heart. That was genius
3:30 I WAS DYING😂😂
But in all honesty that scene from the actual show gave me chills
everything about this sketch was spot on, wilona coming in all animated then going into a serious topic, thelma crying and storming out, and especially the fact that the Evans family can never catch a break even when things seem to finally be looking up
you forgot Michael's wokeness and studio audience reacting to everything.
Lol thats how life usually be tho
@@1talldaddy the explosion of canned applause after "Black House" deserved a better reaction from the real studio audience
The audience had no clue about Good Times because they barely laughed! This was funny as hell!!!
Agreed
That's because most of rhe audience probably hadn't been born when in the 1970s, so they wouldn't have understood the jokes. I was 9 yes old watching this show and I thought SNL's parody was hilarious! 😄😄
@@tamjac10 I was born in the 80s and I watched Good Times reruns a lot! Heck I've watch Happy Days, All in the Family, Jefferson's etc. People in general don't think the world existed before the day they were born. So they don't develop an appreciation for old school shows. I say to them "their loss!"
"Would this be a bad time to tell y'all I have sickle cell..." I'm crying lol
HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?
I'm just so proud of Kenan. I remember watching him on "All That" when I was a kid and from what I understand he's never stopped working or gone long stretches without working at least.

Wish they had James Evans though!!
One tragedy after the next...damn Damn...DAMN!!!
The story of goodtimes , always bad news...

Victoria Smith you need to direct that to the SNL writers. We're just enjoying the sketch ... and it was very funny. No one is laughing at sickle cell. We're laughing at the point that nothing was good for them on a show called, "Good Times".
MELTALKS! the issues i hope u get better

Me too! Loved this show growing up. I see a lot of comments of people saying it’s a cultural thing but honestly it’s a generational thing at least in my opinion. My best friend is black and her daughter is 30 years old and does not have any clue as to what the show is about or has even heard of it. I jokingly made a reference to my name is Lenny and my girlfriend laughed pretty hard along with me but her daughter had no idea what we were laughing about we had a show or a clip and even though she’s never seen the show she didn’t think it was as funny as her mother and I did. Really loved the show a lot.
Lisa McClendon I didn’t get some of the jokes because I never watched the show lol. Plus I wasn’t even born when this episode aired.
Me too and im still tryna figure how they got the actual black jesus picture😂
I’ve seen others referencing what type of “audience” watched Good Times and everybody needs to see how that comment is really disrespectful to the show and the actors.
It’s saying that Good Times wasn’t good enough to broadly appeal to all everyone, it could only entertain black audiences. How could it have been such a huge hit and still a cultural iconic show if that were the case?
@@missingbmore I’m 16 and I got all the jokes. Good times is one of my favorite shows so that’s probably why.
I was a 7 year old kid who emigrated from Germany and was just learning English, and I was hooked on this show. They nailed it.
OMG! They nailed it!! There was always tragedy after tragedy on this show. 🤣🤣🤣
Keenan’s voice sounds just like Florida to me ! How am I just now seeing this skit?

It's so weird how Janet didn't look very much older compared to her Penny character. She just looks like a college student. I used to love her on Good Times!! The Audience didn't know what they had in from of them!! Great skit!!
I've never seen good times really... Maybe one or two episodes. But I still understood everything and laughed my ass off. Its so engrained in our culture that this all felt familiar, especially "DAMN DAMN DAMN"!

This was an amazing sketch and deserves far more recognition and praise.
umm I would say it has been getting tons of praise and credit...For like years now.
Keenan has the Esther Rolle impersonation down pat. Voice too.

I'm really surprised no-one laughed at that 'Malcolm Ten' joke...
Or the name of the guy who said it..."Dick Whiteman"
Audience was trash alot of this Sketch went over their heads
I died hearing the Malcolm Ten reference 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well you kind of need a few seconds to think and visualize the joke for a second, not everyone off the top of their heads will remember that X = 10, and he just keeps talking and moves on, so you don't really get to get the joke
I thought he said "Malcolm Ted" and I didn't get it. Now that you clarified, it is funny!
"Malcolm Ten". I'll admit it, it took me a minute. I grew up with this show. It was a good one.
I remember being 9 years old watching this live. Shortly after, I got the DVD of the original series, and the rest was history. Classic show.
This was stellar, too bad the audience wasn’t familiar enough to appreciate it
Too bad the writers didn't appreciate it. Thelma & Wilona played by white women? Really?
Too bad you do not understand the negative impact this show had on people who are black. Imagine, your aspirations in life are easy credit ripoffs, temporary layoffs, shucking and jiving? I guess that only a black American can embrace and find comfort, even amusement in the device of his own oppression. I was a child when this program aired and even as a child, I found this to be disgustingly disgusting.
Jordan Scott The audience was too white. I doubt they ever seen the show or else Janet would have had a bigger applause in her entrance.
Angel RedBottom lol, bitch plz. Good Times was one of the biggest shows ever, I watched it down here in Australia. Do you think 13% of the U.S. population could maintain a TV show for that long? Of course white people watched it, we aren’t as focused on skin colour as you seem to be.
The suggestion that anyone wouldn’t know Janet Jackson because they’re the “wrong” skin colour is even more hilariously dumb. Ffs, she was the biggest pop star on the planet. There’s no way one can do that if only one race is buying your records.
@@justanotherguy469 Bro you're a fuckin idiot smh. This show had no more of a negative impact on blks than Archie Bunker had on whites. The theme song wasn't celebrating welfare or shuckin', u simpleton. Satire..

PalmurcioWorld I holla'd!!
The one black guy in the audience, “Yeah Wilona!”😂😂
I keep seeing comments about how the show’s episodes most of the time had the same concept, but I believe that was the point. That was one of the best representation of the life that a lot blacks were living, especially in the inner city. And while they did have the same concept, the show hit on some very hard and important topics that a lot of black families either didn’t talk about, had a hard time talking about or didn’t have accurate information on, even today. For instance, does anyone remember the V.D. episode, or the episode of how being a housewife was a job that is barely respected and shown gratitude? What about the multiple women’s rights episode? What about when Wilona dated a guy who was deaf? What about the episode where they showed how racial quota works? What about the episode showing how senior citizens have hard time surviving once they reach that chapter of their lives? What about the time they talked about gang violence and the signs of child abuse? The show wasn’t just about a struggling black family never getting a break, it was about a family that stuck together, laughed to keep crying, kept working for a better life, keeping romance and affection in a marriage even when things around you are falling apart, pushing your children to be better than you. The role of James being a strong, hard-working, BLACK man instead of some hoodlum, it was important, and I’m glad Estelle fought for that. That show was the reality of many, and the fact that they pulled off such a monumental and amazing show in television history is quite amazing. Not to mention, Good times is responsible for a lot of the slang and phrases of that time. Also, the fact that they all looked like everyday, natural and beautiful black people made it even better. Estelle looked like your mom or grandma, Wilona was the fun aunt, James is definitely your grandfather or father, it was real, and I love that about that show.
This was spot on,and I'm not even a person who has seen a majority of Good Times episodes. I've gone thru a couple spells in my life when I watched it,and they ARE funny and they nailed it here. This should've gotten way more of a reaction, especially with Janet Jackson reprising her original role.
