  • After 9 years on the road, we are sharing our secret to staying in an RV so long. We have stationary RV living spots that we go back to to feel at home. We don't own houses, but the properties are designed for RVs and allow us to come and go easily. Take a tour of our Florida lot, which we sometimes visit in the winter. Also, at the end of the video, join us to watch a Falcon 9 rocket launch because Tom is a space nerd.

    So glad that YT suggested your channel this am! Six generations of my family have lived along the FL east coast since the early 1950’s, but I was the first born here. My father was a rocket engineer and we moved up from Palm Beach to the Space Coast in the early 60’s and two more generations were born here. The “anti FL hate” used to upset me, but with over 300,000 moving here annually - I encourage it! As you’ve already discovered, the secret to comfortably living in this hot muggy state is to never live more than a couple miles from the ocean (the Atlantic, not the Gulf). The constant sea breeze keeps the air always moving and the bugs away. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend bringing your RV up to Jetty Park Campground at Port Canaveral. Space X launches at least once a week and you’ll be able to see lift off! Also, front row viewing of cruise ship traffic at the world’s 2nd busiest cruise port. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

    My husband and I have done this exact thing for a decade. One rv lot in Indiana during summer and one in Texas for winter stays. We love this life. We recently sold our Texas land after my second cancer diagnosis in order to pay off my medical bills but it’s a great life. 👍🏻

    We did a similar thing thanks to C19. We always thought our RV was our safety net but the pandemic made us realize it was also an albatross because there was minimal RV storage options around our home in Denver. We bought a lot in Mission, TX in a park similar to yours (RV park turned residential) that has RV sites as well as mobile home sites and several stick and brick homes. We have a clubhouse, many activities, a pool and hot tub, billiards, shuffleboard, workout room and 7 other parks within a short golf cart ride that welcome us for any of their activities. Best part is our HOA dues are $350 a year. We love it here and spend 5-6 months here ever fall and winter.

    • @MortonsontheMove

      That's excellent to hear! And wow that's a great rate. We love Colorado, but always found the Denver area to be very RV unfriendly.

      I'm skeptical of HOA, can you ell us what you get for your money and do you have any guarantee that it won't go up a lot, as I've heard from others.

    • @roger80465
      @roger80465 10 месяцев назад +8

      @@k1ghz960our HOA gets us a clubhouse, a pool, jacuzzi, weight room. We also have numerous entertainment and dances every month during the winter season. Our dues stayed the same for approximately 10 years before finally going up $50 a year last season. Yes we may be a bit unique. HOA fees will increase because costs increase. But, $350 a YEAR is nothing

We put electric, sewer and water on the lot ..have a little barn that has a dryer and extra refrigerator in and there is a washer in the camper as well . We put our 40 ft fifth wheel on it ..we winter there and go back to our home in the spring before it gets deadly hot ... it cost a little bit to do this but we did a little at a time ...

    Great video! We too purchased 2 RV sites side by side in a slice of Heaven in a place called Star Valley in Wyoming. We have steadily developed them over the last 15+ years from a a patch of dirt to a peaceful meditative sanctuary. It has been hard work but rewarding. It’s nice to have a “home base” of our own to come back to in between all the travels. Been full timing for well over 22 years and our happy place there gives a nice break in the routine from early May to mid October. Then back on the road! Keep up with the great videos!

      @@rougeroadie1193 I am very sorry for the late reply. Have been away from the internet for a while. We found ours through our travels. Our initial one was at Tiger Run at Breckenridge, CO. Years later we located our next purchase at Star Valley in Thayne, WY. However, there are specific Facebook groups where you can see lots for sale all over the USA and you can find some very good deals now and then. I will say that our Star Valley, WY lots have been the best thing ever. Absolutely perfect weather, all kinds of outdoor activities at our fingertips, within short range of a ton of amazing destinations, and most importantly, no bugs! That area is a slice of Heaven...built up enough for a good range of services and amenities yet still has that old-time rural Florida vibe. I recall seeing one of the last shuttle launches from a parking lot in Boca Raton. Amazing as it was a very clear, bright day, and the plume was so large it could easily be seen with the naked eye 140 miles away. Congratulations on having such versatile properties that let you have a home base yet give you the flexibility to travel.

I gotta say though there’s something soothing about watching these RV channels I don’t know what it is. I watch Bob Wells and some others, but I am such a homebody I like having my own space in my own home, but I want to be out in nature and seeing different places. I think you guys are talking about here is probably the best of both worlds having your own land your own place you can go to and have a homebase but being able to just drive away in itand you got a place in the north and in the south so you can beat the weather no matter what season I’m looking forward to watching your other videos. Thank you.

    We owned a lot, bottom row end lot, at the Polson RV Resort in Polson, MT. It was great at first then politics and religion came along. The HOA turned into the Spanish Inquisition with board members being single issue people. They did not act to the benefit of the community. They began to rule the whole place with a mix of iron fist for some and special favors to certain owners - think wealthy. Summer of 2023 we had enough and we sold our lot and left. I’m glad to see you so happy. We were too. Then the whole thing went south. We loved Polson. Our summers were full of back country jeeping, boating on Flathead Lake, Happy Hour Fridays and sight seeing around the state. We made friends with locals and every summer, when we returned, it was like a homecoming. But, when politics and religion creeps in to a community, like an RV Park, it just destroys everything. Polson divided into camps and cliques. It was terrible. I’ll end this by saying, good luck, I really hope it works out for you. Get involved in the community and watch what the owner/HOA do and say.

    Love this. My girlfriend and I work in the shipping industry, so pretty much 6-8 months a year we are away at sea. For the remaining months we stay in our tiny home/trailer at various campsites in the northeast or we stay at our condo in south Florida.
    We’ve been looking for a chunk of land somewhere in between that we can keep our tiny home full time with all of its own hookups and permanent deck/patio. Until then, the idea of this permanent RV spot has piqued our interest.
    I guess my only question is how would we go about finding something like this? Is there a website that has listings for these RV parks with purchasable lots? I’ve never seen anything like this in my limited time looking. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Great setup, but I'd strongly suggest a FENCE around your property. When someone realizes that you're gone for a month or 2+... they may get comfortable using your land as a regular toilet for their doggy. Sadly, some people do not respect their neighbor's property these days.

Nice to have a warm place for winter and the northern alternate. But having roots to go home to is definitely NOT overrated. Haven’t seen you guys in a while so glad to see the algorithm delivered you up today.

      We lived in Florida for three years. What a disaster of a place: hot, humid, bugs, hurricanes, police sirens 24 hours a day (and we lived in a nice gated community), alligators in the Publix parking lot, New Yorkers, horrible drivers, fake people, and so on.

      A search for RV community on google might pull some up, but if you are looking in a particular area look for RV lots for rent or sale by owner on facebook marketplace and you will usually find some of the communities that are not listed elsewhere, then you can research it more. Sometimes it can be a bit tricky without knowing the area, we stumbled across this one.

    I’m guessing “home” insurance and property tax must be pretty low with such a lot when compared to a single-family home. You still get to live close to a FL beach but you’re not hammered by the hurricane inflated home insurance and higher property tax rates. Also, if you’re domiciled in FL $0 state tax is quite the nice perk. I would say enjoy life but you obviously are 🙂

    • @MortonsontheMove
      @MortonsontheMove  11 месяцев назад +3

      Lol, you are correct, we only pay a small liability insurance since we rent, but no insurance otherwise. Tax is probably high compared to the size, but its still insignificant compared to a home. Overall its probably one of the most affordable ways to live this close to the beach (and low hurricane risk)
