About freezing when you exit the depths, because Nintendo wanted to save RAM on TOTK, the depths is only loaded when you enter a chasm, where it quickly loads the depths before you notice, however, if for some reason it's taking a long time to load/unload the depths, you still probably wouldn't want to see the depths load in and break the immersion. So instead, Nintendo made it so it will freeze the game for a few seconds. It still kind of breaks the immersion, but looks much more polished than seeing the depths load in.
I find it's also a lot more likely to freeze going *up* a chasm (no matter how slow you go--I was climbing up chasms by hand and got a long hang when the surface loaded in), probably because they don't expect most players will attempt to travel to the surface that way (versus fast travel) and maybe also because the regular map (surface and sky) is likely larger/more memory intensive than the minus/depths map.
I remember when Jak and Daxter had a really clever method to stop your from seeing an unloaded area if you went there too fast by having Jak trip and fall, just to give the game just a few seconds to load it in. What totk did looks pretty flimsy and cheap in comparison

It might scare the people in the area do to a mob being present or maybe nintendo may have added a rare feature. But other than those options, nothing will happen.😢

As a Cactus has shown through Shrience, the game really doesn't want you to bring things from the surface to the depths, there are like 7 layers of protection if memory serves, however, through the power of Shience, you can bring a horse to the depths, they will just be brain dead, you can't bring a beat to the depths last I checked though. Mayne there has been a Shrience break through since I last saw, so Imma go back and see.

We dropped a korok into lava (it said "oof"), but I don't think we've tried that with an NPC yet! :)
