I still miss Casey Coleman. He called the Browns last home game at the old Stadium in 1995, I can still hear the hearbreak in his voice: "the fans in the Dawg Pound holding on to these players like they'll never let go, well, nobody wants these players to go. Nobody wants this TEAM to go" RIP Casey, roundin third and headin home.
LOL Part of the song "McCarther Park" is the theme song....... Best TV station in Cleveland, with the best crew. Channel 3 & 5 were good, too, but 8 always had the best cast. Some from channel 8 went to 5 & made their newscasts better. A couple came from channel 5 in early 1994 & made 8's newscast better. I'll always remember Tim Taylor, Robin Swoboda, Denise D'Acenzo, Dick Goddard (Best WX Man) & the late Casey Coleman.
The opens that stuck in my memory were the Power News and Fusion years. My family favorite station for years, we watched it more as a whole when WJW was a CBS affiliate, but kept watching the news until moving away from Ohio. I've met Dick Goddard and Andre Bernier, both good people. Tim Taylor,Wilma Smith,Dick Russ,Mark Koontz,Dick Goddard,Andre Bernier,Robin Swoboda, Bill Martin, Macie Mcinnis/Jepson, Wayne Dawson,Stefanie Shafer,Casey Coleman,John Telich,Rizz all mainstays in Cleveland news/sports. Don't forget a "one tank trip" with Neil Zurcher and the "Weatherline" which I called many times, and the woolly bears. 8 is news!
CBS here in Milwaukee wisconsin became Fox in December of 1995.what used to be FOX channel 24, still showed the Fox cartoons weekends and weekday afternoons. when CBS picked up David Letterman though, the at the time CBS affiliate here in town refused to air Dave,so channel 24 aired Letterman all b/c our local CBS station was set in their ways with airing reruns of Mash, Cheers and Night Court
Where is the intro that featured The Commodores " Shotgun"??? Can't find it ANYWHERE!!! Great seeing old personalities such as Dave Buckel, Mark Koontz, and Jim Hale, Jim Finerty, Jeff Maynor, and others. Memories!!!
WJW, the Fox affiliate in Cleveland OH, is owned by Nexstar Media Group. WJW is the sister station to NBC affiliate WCMH in Columbus, NBC affiliate WDTN and CW O&O affiliate WBDT in Dayton, CBS affiliate WKBN, Fox affiliate WYFX, and ABC/MyNetworkTV affiliate WYTV in Youngstown, and CBS/MyNetworkTV/ABC affiliate WTRF in Steubenville.
I sure do wish someone could find the news opens for WJW TV 8 from the early to mid 60's, with news anchors Doug Adair and Joe Daily. I tried many times to contact them over the years about this with no success. :(
At 1:09, I remember all the intrigue with this news change. The anchor Judd Hambrick had been hired from California by an unpopular program director who just fired Jeff Maynor and Jim Hale, the anchors in the earlier segments of this video. The set built for Hambrick's debut was touted as "state of the art for the industry" and was "rumored to cost over $25,000", an impressive figure for the time.
Yeah, "Fox 8 Is News" does seem to be the renegade of the group. I think they VO'd "Fox 8 Is News" for a while with the old "ei8ht Is News" logo until they did that temporary switch. I don't know why I want to see it in action so badly, because I remember the logo being "Fox" in white-on-blue, "8" being blue-on-white, and "IS NEWS" underneath in white-on-blue, like "Fox 8 News" was.

Tim and Robin were a one-two punch that couldn't be beat.
You're watching Cleveland's Own NewsCenter 8.
Holy shit. That gets me in the mood to watch some local news!

The ones with the Northeast Ohio map swing are from the mid to late 80s. Kelly O'Donnell is now on NBC News Washington or New York.

Sandy Lesko had quite a sexy smoker's voice, especially for a young girl!
Yes Vince Cellini from NBA TV
Were there not atleast 8 or 9 Hambrick's around the country doing local news? I think they were all related.

DLJBFan2009 Believe it or not, that open was only in use for two weeks!
Nathan Obral Only two weeks? I thought it had a whole graphics package done, and the b/w one was just shoddily done with the very short opens.
Paul Turner Was Voiceover of WJW-TV from 1995-1998.
Greg Currently is Voiceover of WJW-TV from 1998-Present.
The 1985 Voice WJW Newscenter 8 was done by Gregory Crawl.
wjkw wjw was this another cbs fox swap?
Exactly. WJW and WOIO swapped affiliations around 93 or 94 I think.
+Will Downs (ChevyGuy02) No. WJKW went back to WJW in 1985.
