As a former Muslim, it’s true that in some families, they let the girl decide whether to wear the hijab or not. But in some countries it’s mandatory by law to wear a hijab and so many women do feel oppressed by men in these mysogenystic countries. Some parents also force their daughters to wear hijab. Lastly, wearing a hijab isn’t just an article of clothing, as this woman said, it also forces you to change your lifestyle. As a symbol of the religion, acting out, showing your emotions too much, conducting any sin (eg drinking, dancing, etc) is a huge no no. In that sense, hijab is also oppressive. It’s also important to note that yes this lady thinks that she can show her hair, but in many families and countries this is also viewed as a huge no no. Many Muslim hijabi women in North America don’t understand how much privilege they have in their choice to wear headscarf. They should also mention that hijab is in fact a sign of oppression in the Middle East.
And now the major riots in India re women and girls wearing hijab to school. I saw a video of a courageous young woman surrounded by a massive group of shouting abusive men and she was fierce! I'm sorry I don't have a link here but it should be easy to find as it's super recent. Wish I could hug her. We must acknowledge that hijab is a tool of oppression when it's forced on women and girls and only then. I've learned from some very strong women that it's a tool of dignity and pride as well. It's always a question of choice
Love this. I teach faith and ethics at secondary and a level in the UK, looking forward to sharing this clip with my students.
Thanks for the video 💞

I love my Hijab 💞💞💞
I wear a hijab because i have to, my family expects me to. If i lived alone i would toss it away in a heart beat.
