It tells a tale of love between a fantastic forest creature Mavka and a man - Lukash. Emotional music immerses the viewer in the mysterious world of mythical creatures with the participation of mermaids, forest spirits, dangerous devils, kelpies, meeting with whom changes the fate of man.

The relationship between Mavka and Lukash develops gradually and coincides with the changes in the seasons. Just like in Lesya Ukrainka’s play, spring is the beginning of Lukash and Mavka’s acquaintance and relationship. Summer represents the flourishing of their love and the fertility of the Ukrainian land. Autumn symbolizes Lukash’s betrayal as he marries another woman. In winter, Mavka and Lukash die, and their souls meet in the world of eternity. The ballet features numerous mythological characters from Ukrainian fairy tales that have been imagined by popular folklore in ancient forests and vast fields. Working on the ballet, Mykhailo Skorulsky created a true anthem to living nature and pure love. This theme of the dialogue between humans and nature has not only remained relevant but has also reached a whole new level. The ballet is filled with intricate duets, spins, fouettés, pirouettes, and incredible choreographic patterns. Legends of enchanted forest creatures seem to come to life on stage and are woven into the magical movements of the dancers.
Every detail in the performance works together to create a true fairytale experience for adults and children.
Colours! Lights! Interesting costumes, and sets. I see that the National Opera, Kyiv, production is on RUclips too, its scenography more conventional, not so vibrant.
The photography isn’t bad. I’m usually infuriated by the busy filming of stage pieces. A few too many shots of the conductor. Conductor and orchestra should definitely be recognized, absolutely, but when ANYTHING is going on on the stage the camera should show the stage.

“Forest Song” is a beautiful ballet.
I really enjoyed this ballet, though I had never heard of it. Thank you for the posting. I tried to find a synopsis online, but only found one for the original poetic play. The story was easy to follow though. I don't know the music, but were there some synching problems? The choreographic climaxes didn't always go with the music climaxes, and applause seemed to show up at odd places. I liked the wheat scene and the Winter scene, especially. I liked the wedding. It's a very nice ballet, and I appreciated the production.

Вчора, 25/04/24 ми були на балеті Скорульського в Київській Опері. Це сцена Скорульського. Меморіальна табличка на тому домі, де він жив біля самісінької нашої Київської Опери. Більше того, я бачив Лісову пісню в Києві, де я живу, безліч разів. Але, того, що я бачу зараз В Дніпро Опера - ніколи тут, в Києві, не бачив! Я закоханий в Дніпро Опера, я закоханий у виконавців. А поцілунок Лукаша - неймовірно зроблено. Я завжди хотів таке побачити. Я ніколи не бачив такої щирості і відвертості в Лісовій пісні, як у вас, в Дніпро Опера! Лісова пісня у виконанні Дніпро Опера - найкраще, що я бачив у своєму житті.
