Johan Söderberg, who is not related to the two First Aid Kit sisters, directed the song's music video. It was filmed, "in the deep dark forest of Järvsö, Hälsingland." The Söderberg sisters explained: "It's about our destruction of the planet, but it's also about finding the animal within you. Because we know that underneath that polished, civilized exterior there is definitely a wild creature longing to howl or roar." This ballad was extracted from Hemliga bok i den stora mörka skogen (The Secret Book of the Great Dark Forest), a 359 parchment pages rare volume presently displayed in the Nordic Museum in Djurgården and believed to date back from the mid 16th century. According to the Swedish mythology, several wolves entered into an agreement with the underground creature Vittra to seduce humans into venturing through the great forest at night by singing strange songs. The few human who followed the wolves into the darkness got lost in vast expanse of swamps where they had to confront their own past, and for some of them, their disgrace, while Vittra, the underground creature, slowly crawled out to meet each of them.
What’s crazy is that when I heard this song for the first time, I really imagined a bonfire in the middle of the woods and people in animal masks gathering around and dancing to this song, the leaves on the trees are turning orange and it’s midnight, the song just echoing throughout the hills, so dark, so mysterious yet beautiful all at the same time, I’m very happy to see the actual video being so close to what I pictured in my head. I love how Witchy this feels, makes me want to dress up in old clothes like that and twirl around in a forest somewhere! Lol
Really random, but watch Full Metal Alchemist and about two thirds through there is a bonfire scene that this song immediately reminded me of before watching the video and reading your comment.
I feel my spirit come alive when I listen to this magical song. I've always felt a very deep connection to nature and wolves, so this is near perfect to me.

I like it but insinuating in any shape or form that there's such a thing as "real music" is incredible elitist imho. Sure you probably just meant that you like it a lot more than most anything else, but that's not what you wrote :)

Every other year or so I stumble upon a song and it goes like this... I listen to it for the first time and it catches my attention. There's something special there: a groove, a rhythm, a note that makes my ears go a-ha! I listen to it for the second time and the a-ha becomes a wow! There's clearly something gripping me. Then I listen to the song for a third time and I am suddenly overcome with emotion. The lyrics hit home. The melody sweeps me off my feet. I read into it an intensity that I can't control. The third time happened this morning as I was making breakfast. By the time the song got to "Where the sun would set, trees were dead and the rivers were none" tears were streaming uncontrollably down my cheeks. My children came down for breakfast and I couldn't stop hugging them all the while covering my face so they wouldn't have to see that their dad was crying for no reason. There's a magic feeling of wild, of loss, of death and resilience in this song. Where did it all come from? How did you make up words as beautiful as "the rivers were none"? Where is the wolf now?
I love your story. This song also caught my attention when I first stumbled upon this group a few weeks ago. I wish I had found them much sooner. Alas, I didn't.
This reminds me of when I first found it, I was just scrolling through RUclips, then found this and I was like “Nioce” then awhile later I’m crying because I can feel this little connection with it, it’s amazing

I really loved this song when I was younger. I deliberately for years put off learning the actual authorial intent of the creators because I enjoyed reading it from a native perspective. The emphasis on the land and seeing the father and mother described as tired and sad- Hell even the lines about the devil lend well to a native reading. This meant a lot to me as some lonely Navajo kid growing up in a hella urban space.

Laugh, but I think it's about a broken family that was no longer supportive of their children. The whole mama wolf and papa wolf motive... The papa wolf being described as "not smiling anymore" and a "drifter, shapeshifter", and "running away". The "holy idol guarding the night" thing is, IMHO, the mama wolf keeping up hope, and "keeping a light on" for the papa wolf, while struggling on her own. The lyrics about the dying, haunted forest is about the family or home falling apart. Just my opinion, though. :-)) About the only thing that seems "viking" to me in the song or the vid are the mentions of wolves, and the sun setting fast and the trees in the forest seemingly dying. That kind of sounds like something out of an old folk tale, the rest, not really. I do like the little graphical effects with the "wolf face", though. Pretty cool.
WOW! They are incredible and very refreshing. Real music for a change. I am buying there album on ITunes when I get paid and I only do that about twice a year. Thank you First Aid Kit for the music you are making.

Saw these girls and the band live a couple of weeks ago and it was the most beautiful show ever. The music and most of all their voices was amazing. They are so talented. Love from your home country! 😊
This song came on pandora while I was riding. Opened my horse up as fast as he can go. At that speed you don't feel his hooves touching the ground just a rocking motion. If you close your eyes you feel like you are flying. The song fit so perfectly with that experience.
its been about 5 years since I discovered first aid kit through the walking dead of all places, specifically the michonne game by telltale. instantly fell in love with their music, still very fond of this song even now. never gets old.
Why have I never heard you before??? This is amazing! I lost my singing partner/older sister in 2013. We used to sing like this together- and I miss it so much. She taught me harmonies starting earlier than 5 years old. There's nothing like sibling harmonies. I love this💜💜💜
I heared the song my silver lining on and on at the radio but I never could hear the 'band's name. Also a search without any notice from the lyrics on You Tube lead to nothing. I asked my daughter without success till a promo for Renault Kadjar took my attention. I appreciate every song.
these girls are so underrated

WOW! They are incredible and very refreshing. Real music for a change. I am buying there album on ITunes when I get paid and I only do that about twice a year. Thank you First Aid Kit for the music you are making.
One of the best pieces of music I have heard in a long time! These girls have certainly made a great impression on me and I look forward to any further work. Keep up the great work!
your voices are beautiful, every word you sing are so... incredible, how? it's mind blowing!
This vid is 10 y-o. I have known The Silver Lining for years, but I've wasted so many years without hearing their other songs. Incredible talent.
Me as a therian love the song, it makes me feel more conected to my theriotypes
Wolf-mother, where you been?
You look so worn, so thin
You're a taker, devils-maker
Let me hear you sing, hey-ya hey-ya
Wolf-father, at the door
You don't smile anymore
You're a drifter, shape-shifter
Let me see you run, hey-ya hey-ya
Holy light over the night
Oh, keep the spirit strong
Watch it grow, child of war
Oh, keep holdin' on
When I run through the deep dark forest long
After this begun
Where the sun would set
The trees were dead
And the rivers were none
And I hope for a trace
To lead me back home from this place
But there was no sound there was only me, and my disgrace
Wolf-mother, where you been?
You look so worn, so thin
You're a taker, devils-maker
Let me hear you sing, hey-ya hey-ya
Wolf-father, at the door
You don't smile anymore
You're a drifter, shape-shifter
Let me see you run, hey-ya hey-ya
Wayward winds, a voice that sings
Of a forgotten land
See it fall, child of war
Oh, lend a mending hand
When I run through the deep dark forest long
After this begun
Where the sun would set
The trees were dead
And the rivers were none
And I hope for a trace
To lead me back home from this place
But there was no sound there was only me, and my disgrace
It reminds me of my childhood and brings tears to my eyes because it is so beautiful and so sad at the same time.
I love this song! its amazing !
Einfach nur wild..beste mucke ever ;)
Saw these girls and the band live a couple of weeks ago and it was the most beautiful show ever. The music and most of all their voices was amazing. They are so talented. Love from your home country! 😊
Amo essa música!!!
First My Silver Lining in Tales From the Borderlands, now this in TWD Michonne, someone at Telltale has great taste in music.
MetallicaRules shame they can’t make good stories anymore
Proud to be Swedish.

Tabbycat Gaming They're a Swedish group.
John Martin ohhh ok didnt know thx ^-^
Peter Sedin Proud to see a human proud of something.
Your music industry is somewhat revolutionizing, but that's about it really. Otherwise Sweden is the Canada of the Scandinavia.
OMG THE PFP IS FROM ONE OF MY FAV ANIMES WHATT
Why have I never heard you before??? This is amazing! I lost my singing partner/older sister in 2013. We used to sing like this together- and I miss it so much. She taught me harmonies starting earlier than 5 years old. There's nothing like sibling harmonies. I love this💜💜💜
Song Writers Rejoice. These young women are simply great!
Anyone else think these guys are like modern day 70 's hippies?
They're like a female Simon and Garfunkel.
no, I think they are people who really like to see the spirits in animals
Kevin O'Hare I don't think their being like hippies is bad. It's cool that they have their own style.
I've always thought them as being a modern classic country/folk band,
nope, are they singing about skinwalkers?
Absolutely stunning.
Brilliant traditional Scando Pagan iconography. I'm glad these ladies stay true to their roots.
I love the voices, I wish I could sing like that.
I heared the song my silver lining on and on at the radio but I never could hear the 'band's name. Also a search without any notice from the lyrics on You Tube lead to nothing. I asked my daughter without success till a promo for Renault Kadjar took my attention. I appreciate every song.
I've been looking for this song for ages so glad I found it x
This song was great inspiration! the woodlands are beautiful.
This is the best song I've heard in a long while. The sisters Söderberg' voices bring me to tears at times. This is as fresh as it gets. X Peace!
Eric Danielson from Watain recommended this. Cool stuff.
Was hoping to find this comment here
