Nice set up. We are still crawling on the ground with gloves for harvest. When they first start, we gather the burrs too. After they get going, we clean pick the nuts and come back with a little tow behind yard sweeper pulled by a lawn mower. Keeps everything burr free, but we are probably robbing the soil of a lot of organic matter that your trees are getting using the flail mower method. Always interesting to see all the different ways people can do the same job.
Thanks for sharing your setup. Bought some property last year and I now have an orchard of 88 Dunstan Chestnut trees. Mostly for wildlife but I’ll try my first harvest in a few months. Your videos will be helpful.
I am from greece, my grandfathers used to harvest chestnuts in a mountain village, I spent my childhood in that village and I have amazing memories there, we used to pick them by hand... But sadly a bug killed all the 🌰 trees... Now all that its left is a hill farm with dead trees...
We use a flail mower to mow very close to ground during harvest to make the harvesting job easier. Along drip lines we do use herbicides, but shade from the trees now that they are large greatly reduce the weeds also.
I bought some of these chestnuts. They were great!

Very sad what has happened in many parts of the world. We are fortunate here to not have any significant insect pests that affect our chestnut trees.
Very interesting, thanks. How does the ground stay so barren between the trees?

Thanks a lot God bless you!!!
I grow a few figs and chestnuts in SE Europe.
I think a good recipe might be to mix a puree out of them, do you think?
I live in Sacramento. I have 1 colossal tree and can fit one more chestnut tree in my backyard. Do you sell young trees? Can I pick up?
Hello, no, we do not sell any trees. We only grow a few for our own replanting needs.
where to buy that collecting mechanism?

Harvey, how long can they last in fridge/cooler?
Usually at least two to three months
Can we purchase them and do you ship to your favorite fig cutting customer ;-)
Thor has already given the link to our order page, guess I'll add it to our video description as well. www.chestnuts.us/order.htm
