I think the Vstrom indeed has a lot of character. Many folks always put down the Vstrom for its looks, that's what gives it character.
That, and the fact that's its one of the most versatile bikes that appeals to a wide range of riders.

love the video. I have an 04 and I simply love it. I have ridden race bikes my entire life and im NOT going back there. This is truly a work horse. I use it for comuting, touring and fun on backroads. It performs in everytime.
A bellypan, crashbars and some small gadgets it is a world tourer.

If I ever went back to the Strom it would be the 650 Adventure. Great little mule they are.

Good to see you back on a bike. I never rode the 650. I gotta try one some time. I went right to the 1000.

Thanks mate. Yeah I tried the 1000cc version a few years ago and I wasn't comfortable with the higher centre of gravity to be honest. I also considered that the 650 was more than enough power for me anyway. The Vstroms are great bikes all round though

simon44 Yes the old 1000 was top heavy, but the new 1000 is so so much better, one of the best handling bikes I've riden (owned a cb1000r) v-1000 is way 'better' handling bike than the 650, but I just like the 650 more, can't really say why, just do, 1000 is amzing through corners, more power than needed still fun tho, but again that 650 feels like home. Kind of like eating at really good pub vers eating at your mum's place, the pub is 'better' but mum's is nicer.. if that makes any sence...:)

Thanks for the review. I am considering buying one. I would put 70/30 tires on it as I would be doing a bit of dirt as well as I would be using it for an adventure bike.

Sorry if this is a really old video but how does the new and old vstrom compare with the instrument panel/dash? I know about the new 1 but I can't seem to find out anything about the old - From what I can see it's just got engine temperature and fuel gauge.. Oh and time. But nice video, always good to hear someone who hasn't gone down the litre sports bike route ;)

Hi Scot, thanks for the comment. I have another (better) video of the old model Vstrom which I suggest you take a look at. You are right about the old dash. Its more analogue than digital. The only digital features are two trip odometers and the ones you mentioned. The new Vstrom has a better dash and digital options.

Oh thanks man, was just wondering as when i'm buying second hand sometime this year, I might not be able to afford a 2012 model but from what you say the older model is still a great bike. Cheers man :)

I bet it gets a lot colder where you come from in winter. What do you think or Australia anyway. : )

Yeah the winter in Ireland can be cold but it's not too much colder than a Melbourne. It's very similar to Hobarts winter. I'm missing the summer in Ireland now though so it was nice to hit the Sunshine Coast for a few days and enjoy some sunnier weather again. Australia has been mixed for me, but over the last few months it's been great. Melbourne, Hobart and the Sunshine Coast have been my favourite places. The Gold Coast was my least favourite place.

Funny you say that The Gold Coast wouldn't be top on my list. Melbourne on the other hand I ranks very high. I live in Newcastle N.S.W. A very under estimated place, which is just on the verge of some big changes. I'm glad I subscribed, your videos are tops and are a pleasure to watch. : )
