I did the Emperor Falls hike as a day hike with some friends from Edmonton about 6 years ago. I loved the views. They were so amazing it's almost impossible to put it into words. Watching this really makes me want to find a friend or 2 and do the trip over a few days like you have. Even if the views do not compel people to go, the expressions on each and everyone of your faces should be a sign.
I climbed this trail twice in the 1980s. They've definitely changed part of the trail between Kinney Lake and the White Falls. The suspension bridge used to be further up the trail, across a more violent part of the river, and we crossed it the other way (river coming down from the right side). I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that the original bridge was wiped out by a flood one year and they had to rebuild it. They must've changed the trail then.
I did a similar 5-day hike around Berg Lake about 35 years ago. Your video brought back wonderful memories. We were fortunate to see the summit of Mt. Robson a few times through the clouds; we had similar weather. 😊 Cheers.
Definitely one of the most spectacular places out there! Glad you went all the way to the top of snowbird pass, most people stop before the final climb, and they really miss out. Great video man!
Brilliant video! The Key Points at the end - stroke of genius. Some of us visual types - helps to have the list written there. So the fact that you thought to have a perfect backdrop for it, was most cool. The scenery and videography of it was incredible. Great job. Thanks!
Thanks Mike! Thanks for noticing the backdrop! I spent quite a bit of time trying to find something that would work and also wasn't right next to a loud waterfall. haha!
Thank you Justin for sharing. It’s spectacular. Wish I could do this one day . I’m getting into hiking but I still have to learn a lot . Your videos are very informative. One day I will do this.
You are a handsome and charming host who has mastered the art of background music that allows talking to be always heard. What first class trails they have with great infrastructure!!!! The waterfalls. I had no idea how many.
Loved this place. My daughter said “thanks for bringing me here” on the way down. We weren’t planning on going all the way to Snowbird pass but some little kids were doing it so we pushed ourselves to do it. So glad we did. We did toboggan falls route the other way. It was fun to climb up! When we were heading up the people coming out hadn’t gotten to see all of Mt. Robson for their whole trip. We were thankful for the times we did get blue skies. Great video. This is the kind of video I was looking for before we did our hike.
Greetings from Wales 🏴 🏴 have always wanted to go to Canada 🇨🇦 mainly for the Hockey as we are big fans of the Cardiff Devils 😀 but for the last 2 years we have been backpacking and filming our journeys. Love your videos and just subscribed to your channel, some great viewing, what an Awesome country you live in and would love to come to Canada when lockdown is over and get on some trails, that scenery is the best we’ve ever seen. Your country is beautiful Justin, thanks for sharing. Simon & Mark
We watched this vlog on our TV using youtube option and came here to post this message. This is an excellent vlog, very detailed, and very informative. We may not be able to do it, but perhaps find a way to at least visit some scenic spots that you shared, for example, those of several waterfalls falling from mountain tops at intervals. Btw, we are from Ontario and have been hiking in Ontario and lot more in Quebec.
Gorgeous sceneries! Right next to the majestic mountains 🥰 waterfalls everywhere! This is a photographers version of heaven 😍 7 hours from the lower mainland, yep doable! 😁
Justin, literally one the most informative hiking video that I have seen. Without a doubt plan on doing this hike for sure thanks to you!! You just gained another subscriber brother! The Wife and I come to BC 3 times a year up until the Covid Crisis. So when the country opens back up this is on our list of hikes to do!
I did this trip in the mid 1990’s and have since moved residence and haven’t had a chance to return but I’ve often wondered how the glaciers are doing and if they have receded since I was there
At 20:58 I definitely thought you said "I thought a reindeer was shining a light in my tent" and watched it 3 times to realize you said RANGER! hahaha. Snowbird pass looked AMAZING! How difficult would you genuinely rate it.
Berg Lake is patrolled by reindeers, didn't ya know eh! Snowbird pass would be moderate difficulty just because of the length, but you're doing it with minimal pack weight. Overall, I'd say Berg Lake Trail is also moderate - a steep section after Whitehorn but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. People were hiking it in rubber boots carrying 8 lbs tents.
Thank for the video, very informative. Unfortunately the visitors center at the base of Robson could not provide me with that much information ( visited 2 time now, kinda disappointed with the lack of knowledge ) , so I’ve been doing my own research via RUclips, all trails and some hiking book.
Planning to do berg, snowbird and fitzwilliam with my son within the next couple years. Would like to do sooner but berg trail washed out and is closed. Dunn peak next year, it’s the closest one for me( and my dog can stay overnight). Thanks again for your content.
Hey Justin, I'm new to your channel. I'm super happy I found you as you seem like a really good dude. Absolutely loved the video and I'm totally jealous btw. Looked like it was a wonderful trip! Just curious, do they allow camp fires at any of the sites?
Thanks for the kind words! It was an AMAZING trip. No campfires at any of the sites unfortunately. Some of the shelters have wood stoves, but those are only for emergency use.
My friends and I did this hike as our first ever hike and we were idiots and did in TWO days. 21km up, 21km down. We didn't get to our campsite at Berg Lake until 2 in the morning, slept until 8 or 9, then headed back down and didn't make it back to the car until 8pm. Despite it being an absolute bagdrive I had the most fun in my life. This trail is amazing.
@@lotsaluvnikki About 10:30-11:00 AM. We had an overweight friend with us though so he slowed us down quite a bit. Props to him though, he still completed the whole hike.
Hello Justin! Great video, you have sold me on my next backpacking trip. On this trail, Do you need to book campsites ahead of time? Can you stay at a single campsite for multiple nights? What did you bring for bear protection, food storage? Thanks in advance.
Hey Bret! You do need to book campsites in advance. Bookings open October 1 the fall before. By this point, most sites are booked. You can stay at a single campsite multiple nights for sure. I brought bearspray for bear protection and hiked in a group. Every campsite has bear lockers for food.
Love your channel. I watched the entire 6 hr great divide video. Just a suggestion for these shorter ones, no music! 😅 just nature sounds are totally fine. I believe there was no music in the 6 hr video. Regardless, thanks for the content especially the hiking videos 👍
Super awesome and informative video Justin! Thank you. I’m finalllly going to be doing this hike next year at the end of July and I am so stoked and this video got me even more stoked. Even tho it’s gonna kill my legs. 😂😂
Thanks Kaila! You'll love it. I found the hike not to be as difficult as I thought it would be, hopefully you found the same! Not sure if you came across my complimentary video on the campgrounds along the trail, but it covers where some of the best sites for each campground and some of the amenities for each one.
Justin Outdoors I hope it won’t be as difficult as I think it’ll be! And I also hope the weather is good for the hike!! Yes I did check out that video too! Day one we are hiking to whitehorn camp site. Then day two we hike to berg lake campsite and stay there for two nights. That way we can do whatever day hikes in the area we’d like to do for the day on day three and maybe on day two depending on how long it takes us to hike from whitehorn to berg lake. I’m stoked for all of the sunset and sunrise photos to be had!!
That's awesome that you are spending 4 nights. Increases your odds of getting a window of good weather! If you have some clear nights, I'd see about getting up or staying up to look at the stars and moon. The reflections on the lake and glaciers are amazing.
@@JustinOutdoors Well not quite 4 nights, instead it's 3 nights and 4 days which is still pretty good I think! I am hoping part of Mumm basin is open by the time we go. Fingers are crossed!! Oh heck yes absolutely will be up trying to get some photographs (I'm a photographer as well) at night if the weather is good. I am considering getting the 5k Joby Gorillapod since it is one of the more lightweight tripods out there and pretty versatile. The tripod I have now it's great and sturdy but I would hate to hike like 40km or more with it lol. and I am hoping to vlog the hike too with my gopro!
Amazing video! I’m looking to do this trail next year, I have a couple questions -What places on the trail did you fill up your water? (Between the campsites, at the campsites)And did you boil/treat the water before you drank it? -in the bear lockers, do you need to put your food in a plastic bag, or anything? -did you leave your packs in your tent when you left for the day hike? Is it safe to leave your belongings in the tent, or is there a specific place to leave them at berg campground. Thank you again! Loved the video, so excited for next year!!
You'll have a blast! 1) I filled up anywhere I found water! I used a Sawyer Squeeze filter to treat the water. 2) I put my food in a MEC nano drybag. Most people did the same, so I'd maybe label your bag with a sharpy. 3) We left our packs in the Berg Lake shelter. I'd feel safe leaving stuff in my tent as well, but we were going to a different campsite after.
You might be able to grab a cancellation. Booking opens in October the year before and when I booked, July and August were fully booked within 3 hours.
Hey Justin great channel! Curious if you opted for the tungsten ul over the lanshan on this trip for any specific reason? I have the tungsten 3 (not the UL so over 6lbs) and was considering picking up the lanshan 2 for this hike (bit too tall for the 1 I think). I guess I’m just curious if there are drawbacks to that type of tent on this kind of trip that I’m not considering before I make a purchase. Thanks!
I didn't have a Lanshan 2 at the time and wanted the extra space over the Lanshan 1 since I know we'd be setting up base camps! The Lanshan would be a bit tougher to set up on the wooden platforms which you find at some of the sites.

I never recommend going to campsites without a reservation. If you show up without a reservation, you'll be taking a tent pad from someone who has a reservation. There are also a lot of wardens along Berg Lake who will not hesitate to make you walk out back to your car immediately.
Hi man, good video. I would like to be able to go hike on my own anywhere...it's so beautiful....However, I am scared of an encounter with a wild animal or even an agressive dog....What advice would you have for me ?
Carry some bear spray and be familiar with the area and what you might encounter. Make take a wildlife safety course. Most importantly, don't let fear control you!
I'm a little anal when it comes to place names, at 4:57 that was Whitehorn ,Robson is to your left but you are just below it, You are in the valley of 10,000 waterfalls and in the evening if you go out towards the river you can spot mountain goats looking for a place to sleep on the ledges. Your right though it's a must do hike, but they closed it in August this year to severe melt from the glaciers, the bridges and trail are damaged by flooding.
Wow! This looked amazing! If I ever make it to the Canadian Rockies, this will have to be on my list. Can I ask about bugs? Some places and at specific times can be bad for bugs, but over all I don't find them bad at all. I probably put on bug spray twice all summer. You can do the hike solo, just be bear aware. Lots of talking to yourself!
Berg Lake is pretty crazy and you could see 30C or 10C during the day in June. I'd be prepared for below freezing at night for sure. It probably won't get much below freezing, but you never know.
I hope when my kids are older we can start doing things like this. Does anyone know the approximate age kids/young people can start doing stuff like this? ahaha
This place is awesome!!! Love your content, but how many commercials can you possibly cram into one 34 minute video!!! Extremely annoying!!! But this place is now on my to do list!! Thank you!!!

Berg Lake is pretty crazy and you could see 30C or 10C during the day in June. I'd be prepared for below freezing at night for sure. It probably won't get much below freezing, but you never know.
Thanks for the info. This video is awesome! Keep the top drawer content coming my man.
@@BlickBoogie Thanks Boogs!
