Saw this movie years ago when it first come out. Love the song the first time I ever heard it. I can’t believe this movie on RUclips...thanks so much for sharing and bringing back so many wonderful memories.
Me, too. I got to meet him once, in Lewiston, ID where they made Breakheart Pass. I reached out to shake his hand, and my hand disappeared > his hand was as big as a bear paw!!! And remember, he was a stunt rider before he got big in the movies. He was the one who first did 'Roman riding' and that got around, and the rest is history. For those who don't know, Roman riding is when a guy stands on the backs of two galloping horses! Johnson did it on a bet.

As an Ex-Rodeo clown for (SEBRA) South East Bull Riding Association I appreciate your comment. I didn't do it for the money tho the money was good.I did it for the bull riders, and to challenge myself.
So True, They are certainly NOT given enough recognition for the hard work they do, and the injuries they receive, saving the other Cowboys from getting hurt. Here’s to You Sparky, for your surgeries and pins in your ankle, from jumping in front of the Bull, and saving the Cowboy from Great injuries, by putting your own life in harms way!🥂🙏 Good Old Days 😉
Yeah I rode bull back in the day in California ,Arizona and there abouts,.. almost got Stoned on rodeo clown saved my life never rolled a bull again got into Team Ropin",, now I'm 62 and I just team pleasure ride
I was just thinking why did they start riding bulls in the first place? Rodeos were started to see who was the best hand on a ranch! Bronc riding served the purpose of breaking a horse to take a saddle & rider! Why the hell did they start bull riding? It serves no practical purpose! Some thing I noticed that in the opening scene he's driving his truck coming up to OKC & then after it shows the sign at the state line saying welcome to Oklahoma! What's up with that? Ok city is a long was from that sign, it's in the center of the state. It's more accurate that he'd see the sign hours before OKC! JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT! PEACE OUT!
Because if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball. So if you can ride a bronc, you can ride a bull. In the "I'm bigger, badder, more cowboy than you are" world of rodeo, it seems like a natural progression.
Rick Bradley H.D. Dalton was hurt at rodeo in Rocksprings, TX (see ambulance). That is Dallas, TX skyline you see in opening scene not OKC, OK. Then as he drives across TX/OK state line you see the Welcome to Oklahoma sign on I-35.
As a retired rodeo bronc rider, I understand this movie better than anything else I know. Reminds me of the last six years of my grandpa's life. I got to know him and we shared this common bond as cowboys. He was a rancher back in the day before moving to the big city and working every job he could to support his six, and then five kids. I worked farms and ranches as a hand. I started rodeo right outta high school. And now I sing traditional country music. Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams Sr were his favorites. Here's to ya grandpa. And all the cowboys that are my heroes.
Ive noticed a lot of folks that think bull riders are the tough guys of rodeo...... next to the rodeo clowns... the bronc riders are the real gangsters of rodeo.... Bulls are big sure.... but theyre dumb & slow..... horses are big, fast & when they wanna be mean...man they can be nasty.... Respect 2 ya buddy!
This is my second viewing of this ab fab movie n it did NOT fail to deliver a second time!!! Scott Glen is the consummate actor, from the first time I ever saw him in Urban Cowboy through all the in between n here in My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys, he is phenomenal, you never take your eyes off him. Ben Johnson is also a seasoned veteran who has been in tons of cowboy movies n is STILL excellent to watch, Gary Busey, is always a bundle of energy n funny, Cate Capshaw n Tess Harper are both EXCELLENT n Balthazar Getty is coming up nicely since I first saw him in Young Guns II. The entire cast, not to forget Clarence Williams III, Linc from the Mod Squad in the 1970's, was top notch!!! Will watch this one over n over!!!

I'm a Texan, I love rodeos, and I love cowboys. But I chose this movie tonight because it's Popcorn. I knew before it started, I'd be satisfied. Bull riding is the hardest part of rodeo, in my opinion. I loved his comment, to become one with something so wild (paraphrased) is the feeling of being truly alive! To connect with a wild animal at any level is truly a beautiful thing to experience. As always, my Popcorn, thank you. I loved!
My dad rode bareback broncs before I was born. I asked him once why he didn't ride bulls. He said that they scared him. As a little girl who didn't think her dad was scared of anything I was shocked. Loved this movie back in the day Still love it today. Ben Johnson will always be one of my favorite actors. ❤
Wasnt that Tuff Hedeman doing the stunt riding on the last bull🤔 good movie, 🤠👍 After posting I googled it, and while I didn't confirm it was Tuff I did read an excerpt from Ty Murray's book. Turns out Lane Frost was hired to double for Scott Glenn, but was killed before he got the chance. Tuff and Jim Sharp did the riding stunts in this.

I'm a daily cowboy,,seeing that old man having difficulty retiring is pretty hard to see,it's something I'm starting to notice on my father in laws life, but he is twice as stubborn.!GREAT MOVIE!
Mr. matt, If you’re given the gift of time, stuff starts to wear out. It’s natural, a part of the Cycle of Life. It’s hard to see someone you admire, love etc. experience aging but just try to *be* in those moments. Take pictures, videos, sit down and really ask them about their lives and their time in their prime. Then really, really listen. There’s a lot of accumulated knowledge and experience there-and not all of it’s good so be prepared. Much respect to you, sir. Someone raised you right.

"Yes, nothing I'd like better than talking to junior all day". Any father who can raise a son who says his dad is his hero as a grown man, may not be perfect, but he's sure in the heck did something right! One last comment, my son asked me why my generation had so many pretty women in it? He said when I watch movies made in the 70's all women look so clean and pretty. I said son, people didn't always do right back then, but we knew right from wrong. Television was clean, we didn't have internet. And though our parents where far from perfect, we showed them respect. It was a different world.
"The action shots" would have been more realistic had the bullrider been spurring during the ride. (instead of having his legs clamped to the bull as shown)
