Alaska Off-Grid Cabin Build | Final Episode

- It's a race to finish my cabin before Alaska's brutal winter sets in. Building off-grid isn't an easy task, especially when you're alone. I hoped to have this cabin done long before winter set in, but with the leaves turning yellow and the temperatures plummeting below freezing, the prospect of completing this tiny bunkhouse might be out of reach.

This dude is winning by putting this all together!!!
Bunkhouse looks great
The more of the music I hear, played by you and your friend, the more I love it.
It fits your videos so well, whether you are gathering wood, cruising around on the jet, skis, or cleaning/cooking!
Thank you for posting these most exciting and clever videos!
Also , that dog is there for you...give him special attention whenever you can !
You have the best supervisor around. Norman is right there with quality control and moral support.
Love the music and so great to have a good friend to help out.
Fabulous. Congratulations on such a great job.
Just watched it a second time. I’m so impressed and happy for you and Luisa! ❤ dad
Thanks Dad! Wouldn't be here without ya.
That was a Wolf in the back. Cool. ❤
Молодец, дорогой👍. Профессионал своего дела!!! Успехов тебе!
A little helpful hint when nailing t&g all you need to nail is the tongue side on the top of piece. Mail it on an angle toward the bottom. The groove with hold it together. That way you won’t use as many nails
Cool build! The mice will chew right through your mesh. Next time use a thicker hardware cloth for mice and the smaller stuff for insects behind it.
on small structures like this, a 2x6 wall on 24 inch centers would be a better choice as you are only holding up a roof (not a second floor) with walls and will have less chance for thermal bridging / plus the added advantage of 2 inches more insulation / also wire screen does work on vermin but add hardware cloth because Rats and Squirrels will eat through screen wire
A mistake many people make when laying flooring is to not leave a 1/8-inch gap all the way around the edges for expansion and contraction. That gap will be covered by baseboard. An old trick someone taught me is to use paint mixing sticks (the big ones) laid on edge around the perimeter of the room...leaves a perfect 1/8-inch gap when removed. Only other thing I would say, for Alaska I would have framed walls with 2x6s to allow for more insulation. Otherwise, cabin build looks great.
Hello from Finland . We live offgrid in the middle of the forest too. Today is the first Day our guest cabin has electricity. My good friend hook us up. A lot from your video goes back to my life too. My vife is a teacher she teaches woodworkin for the Kids and she is far better building stuff that i am. Last year We re insulated the main cabin. I planned and did the solar and wind for us.
God bless you.
Man I can't wait to spend a couple days. I gave you all the 12th off. 68. As always, good music. Good job, looks great, yeah, lot of work. Bet Timmy wishes he had built one that size. Take care
Excellent! Watching your videos since recovering from surgery! Amen!!!
Amen my friend!
I love, love, love, your videos! Mainly because you show how you can live off grid while still being comfortable (propane, generators). I noticed that Norman was quite diligent about overseeing your work and when he shook hands with you, it was like he was giving you his seal of approval. Looking forward to seeing how the inside will be kitted out.
Yes, Norman is the Forman!
we need more videos of you in a normal cozy snowy day in the cabin and more asmr vids
Great job , and glad your friends could help when and where they could . It looks amazing. Oh and so does your wife lucky dog . Oh and that was big foot a rare glimpse of the elusive creature. Not a moose
Lmbo .
100%
Thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you . Warm as a bug in a rug!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great Job on that Beautiful Cabin. Ginger L USA ALABAMA
The issue with under sizing fiberglass insulation for an air gap is now your insulation can get wet. The baffles are really cheap and if used correctly can help keep the back of the insulation dry.
Watched this build series as it progressed. Thats one beautiful 'guest' cabin. And your right, that live edge spruce siding is gorgeous.
Hi Norman , dats a good puppers !!!!
What a beautiful video, the houses are super elegant 🏘 I want to live in these beauties
I started watching your videos today and made it a marathon. Such great work and love watching you work with friends and your wife (and dog) lol. Great videos!

Outstanding Craftsman ship 👍!!!😇
Nice little Guest Cabin!
It's nice to have friends and your wife help you out doing all that hard work by yourself is tough but you manage to
Forrest plays music and helps? What a jewel!
Looks awesome love your outside light! I need one.
Pretty cool huh? I found that at the hardware store.
Afternoon from Central Florida
Great video and build. Good to know you aren't finished with the door, as it looks too citified for the rest. I just stumbled across your channel, but didn't know if I wanted to hang around till I saw the Lite beer and banjo. I am subscribed to 50 channels and about half of them are travelers, campers, and, or building cabins or homesteads. At 77, tech didn't arrive in time for us to do what we once planned with Mother Earth News. We bought land on a beautiful lake in Arkansas but kids, lack of money, and lack of today's technology kept us in the suburbs in a conventional lifestyle and j o b. Now I see what could have been vicariously on RUclips...
Sweet 🐕Dog!!!😇
Aint he!?
You guys did a great job on the build. Cozy. Your guests will have a comfortable stay. Thanks for another video.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching.
L
👍 very smart work , looking great cabin nice banjo sounds.
Suggestion install some outside circuit breakers, 1 for each cabin...so when you're away you simply turn off the breaker and the electricity is completely shut off for the cabin.
Great job! I work nights and like to wind down watching your videos before bed. And yes, the music is fabulous.
I love the cabin looks very nice. I would stay there. You are a very lucky man to have your wife and friends to help out.
Thanks, I sure am!
Sweet cabin Build.
Excellent video
Wow, potlights! Swanky.

Well done. Great cabin.
Thank you!
Beautiful work, buddy! Love every part of this video. And fun stuff to possibly have a ghostly sighting (or an alien?!) lol.
The animal to the Left moving around looked like a “Big Foot” on all 4s, 🤣
How Are You Doing!? You Have A Nice Cabin. May The Lord Be With You. Gainesville, Florida
Great job!
From everything ive researched....vapor barriers on the inside causes condensation and then mold.
Nice work! Enjoyed watching
Glad to hear it. Much appreciated.
It looks so amazing. Thanks for sharing
I am new here but I really like it . What a nice cabin your new build and your main one . Looking forward to more.
Wow looks lovely. Very talented to build that.🙂
Thanks, just faking my way through it!
I just found your channel. So glad I did. I am an outdoor kind of gal and love watching you, your wife and your friends. I have been binge watching yo catch up. You should be proud of yourself. You have a great voice that I love listening to. Your work ethic is admirable . I am looking forward to watching what you come up with next. Great piece of land by the way. Thanks for taking us along with you . I am 71 and live in southern Illinois. I have the great Shawnee National Forrest to play in here.
You know I like your show and everything you’re doing a good job most important thing to me is that you feed your dog remember this your dog is your best friend feed him first before you feed yourself. I tell everybody that I watch every show I watch dog comes first Daniel remember that
I have watched a ton of your videos back to back, and that moose appears to be a young moose. Looks like he/she isn't venturing far. You just might have a wild pet.
I love it. Its rustic but yet haas a beauty about it. Amazing. ❤❤❤
Thank you!
It's amazing how you have built 2 sturdy, Alaska-proof weatherproof solid cabins with no previous building experience (if I remember the info you gave in your earlier videos correctly).
No clue how I managed to pull it off haha, but here they are. I always say, if I can do it, so can anyone.
Cabin looks great thanks for bringing us along
You're welcome!
Frosty Morn as background music and clips of you playing clawhammer? Love it.
Edited after you said you and Forest are making music there. Youre really out there living the dream man. Respect.
Very new to your video’s wishing you and your wife the best New Year many Blessings from a Grandma who Loves watching Alaska video’s ❤️
Beautiful bunky, but you may have a problem with your flooring. You’re supposed to leave a quarter inch gap on all sides to allow for expansion and contraction, to prevent buckling. It looked like you installed it tight to the walls, keep an eye on it. Great videos.
Thanks, man! Really enjoyed watching all of those. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed!
Great video
Excellent! I really love what you did with the siding.
Nice job , Yes you sure did build a nice cabin.
Thanks you so much!
Your channel is a breath of fresh air in my day.
So glad to hear that...that's really all I'm trying to do.
That wasnt a moose, it was a baby sasquatch. They can be very elusive.😀
that's what im sayin...
I’ve been watching since the beginning. It’s great to see the “almost”completion! It’s absolutely beautiful and livable right now. You should be so proud!! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
This is the first time I’ve seen this…. It is absolutely beautiful…. I could call that home. You guys did an awesome job. Home sweet Home. 🙋🏻♀️⏮️👍

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it very much.
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada happy Christmas thanks to the presentation
absolutely beautiful. Thanks for taking all,of us on this wonderful journey! Blessings to you and your family!
Gorgeous . the build AND the jams. And the ghost-moose. I'm the guy who asked about protecting your guitars from the cold. Amazingly , Sweetwater has those cool packets that automatically get the moisture correct, gonna get some , and a hydrometer. and a new guitar. You guys inspired me to try some mini condenser boom mics, we'll see. I've heard on other channels that the propane wall heaters kick up a lot of moisture , and can cause mold. So I pondered; maybe you could run a small dehumidifier off a solar panel? Maybe those silica gel packs that they ship with your guitar could be tucked into the walls here and there? A hippie friend of mine uses air diffused rosemary oil to kill mold and mildew. So maybe you could deploy that before/after the guests leave. I think cedar oil works also. Yeah invading critters , I've been battling mice and squirrels in this otherwise cozy apartment all summer. But guess what, I'm putting the final payment down on some land on Monday , to build on! The temps in winter are about the same as yours. I hope to be on it mid may . Thanks for recording all your supplies in that previous video, that was helpful. Onward.
Nice cabin. Great dog.
And I thought Tyvek was the official siding of the state of Alaska. 😁
Haha too true
Beautiful hard work. Lovely cozy cabin.
Great job sir really beautiful cabin, love seeing couples working together to accomplish something must be a great feeling

You so talented
Putting the ole boy to work haha!
You'd better believe it
Very enjoyable video as always.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
This made a good project.
The cabin looks amazing you did a fine job from start to end
Much appreciate that!
Just a tip you should never clean the glass on your wood stove with that blue window cleaner. It’s flammable. All you need is a paper towel or rag and some cool ashes from the stove. You can add a very small amount of water and make a paste for stubborn stains. The glass will wipe clean. 🙋🏻♀️🇨🇦
How good that feeling must be! You've built house. I'd fallen asleep watching your more recent video and this followed. Love it! T.
