so it's gonna be a billion for cargill, a billion for the millionaire family farmers, and they will cut snap again. the extension will not even give you help with backyard stuff any more. here in west texas, a section, 640 acres, is pretty much too small to make anything on. but the giant ranches get money to dig stock tanks.
With food prices what they are you'd think farmers would be rich right? Not when the monopolies that buy from them won't pay them a fair price though. It's been this way for decades. Farmers are a lot like Walmart employees, they need govt handouts to get by.
We use to farm, and farming income is and has been for over 6 years 60-70% all tax payers. Even on the record years for crops and prices, farmers STILL got HUGE gov checks. And yet our drinking waters keep getting polluted from farm run off. If its so hard for farms, then why do 90% of the farmers around us all have multi million dollar cabins and new pickups every year??
Smithfield Foods, a US based pork producer (largest in the world) owned by the Chinese sent more pork back to China than was consumed in the US creating widespread shortages. These same conditions existed during the Potato Famine in Ireland and 1980's Ethiopia. Both instances are examples where significant amounts of food was being exported out of the country while the local population went hungry and starved to death.
Big difference, the potato is a staple food whilst pork is toxic and cruel. England was sending plenty of food to Ireland during the potato famine, the problem being it was for the COWS!
If American companies would have been willing to pay what the Chinese obviously were paying, the company owning the farm would have sold the pork to the American buyers, obviously that didn't happen. Business is business.
@@L98fiero Glad you brought that up. US markets pay "more" for pork than Chinese, so how does your business-is-business logic apply here? Furthermore when you factor in the wildly exorbitant expense to ship partially processed pork from the Mid-West and American South back to China it makes even less sense from a logistics standpoint.
Well, of course, racism has gone on for ages, but it's false to blame so much of it on the farm bill. The farm bill at it's height, (during the 1940s, before the core programs were reduced and ended,) led to a more than 10% increase in ownership of land by nonwhite farmers in the South, (1940-50, Census of Ag). Similar for white. When the farm bill was reduced, (less supply management, lower minimum farm price floors,) there were massive losses of black farmers. And white farmers. The early farm bill had insufficient protections for tenants, and, as of 1940, for example, 70% of nonwhite farmers in the South were tenants, but only 41% for whites. Tenants had harder times over the long haul. But for nonwhites in the South, that goes back to the racism of slavery and Jim Crow. That also caused nonwhites to have smaller farms that were poorer for crops, with lower yields. Those impacts, from earlier racism, then reduced their farm program benefits, including subsidies. Racism in the implementation of the farm programs in the South is probably also a bigger impact than the farm bill itself.
This country is the least racist country in the world, I don’t know what you’re talking about, unless you’re talking about Biden and his administration then I would have to agree with you that they’re extremely racist, and trying to bring racism back.
This topic is important to the extreme. Thank you 'The Real News Network' for the warning.
Thanks for covering this issue!

Too bad, Dude. That's capitalism for you.
@@bertanelson8062 Capitalism is capitalism. My issue is with the US left who knowingly refuses to engage these stories.

Total bullshit
We need to switch the grants and subsidies away from animal farming and into plant based production and wilderness recovery.
Hi bot.
Amazing...the level of racism is simply mind boggeling. And this has went on for ages. This country is what it is...a racist one.
You mean a country that cares about migrants more than its own people? Move to china and see how racist they are. Stop crying.
do you grow food or force slaves to grow it for you?
