  • In today's video I'm looking at the CHEAPEST way to add WIRELESS Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to ANY CAR in 2024. It doesn't matter if you're driving around in a rust bucket from the 1980's or something from 2020, you can have Wireless Apple CarPlay or Wireless Android Auto for a relatively SMALL cost! I've tried to not pick a STUPIDLY cheap product, because I don't have much faith in their abilities going forwards - and the reviews seem to agree.

    Very comprehensive and useful review, may pick one of these up.

    the aux cable interference will be caused by "ground loop." you'll need an aux cable with a built-in ground loop isolator, or add one to the existing cable. it's a common problem in cars.

    Interesting product…
    If it uses an FM transmitter why not just buy a FM transmitter, connected to your iPhone, for less than £10, and use the phone as the ‘screen’ ?

    • @kiphakes
      @kiphakes  6 месяцев назад +3

      Because this is an interface designed for driving.. the phone is just a phone, and obviously has a lot smaller screen 👌🏻

    I bought 2, one for myself a £250'ish for my car for forward, and rear cameras, and one for my friend with only the rear camera. fitted mine, and use the rear camera on the display which you can do without hacking the wiring in the car, and makes all rear views about the same. I agree with your move Kip using the stand, but as my new car is on Motability then can't hack wires, and didn't want to stick sticky pads to the dash so went with the screen mount. trouble is if you don't get the arm exactly to the point of up and down only then the display flies onto the driver or passenger side as the bolts aren't secure enough even when tightened fully. and the display part of the arm wobbles until you break the adjustable screw tightener.
    the 2nd one around the same price as yours, for my friend, he wants to mount it properly in my old C3 Picasso with the camera by the number plate. but to do that will mean we have to extend the cable for the reversing camera to run back up the boot door, and then back down the bodywork then hack into the reverse light somewhere internally as the reverse light is fitted to the rear bumper rather than internally like most cars usually are, otherwise get corrosion in the joint. so something other people might need to think about when fitting it properly. but the cable for the reverse sensor power is way too short for external camera mount unless on the boot door itself.
    but yeah is a bit of a cheek to call it bluetooth when it only allows bluetooth in, and not send bluetooth out, but same with both of the ones I bought as well, they will only accept bluetooth so it isn't just a 1 off model.

    we legit replace the complete head unit with android head units in India lol. This is cool tho if you wanna retain the OEM functionality in modern day cars which mostly come with decent camera and parking sensors. Good content man, you got a sub.

    Have the unit fitted into vw transporter. Thanks for the review I have subscribed. Have you sorted out the Bluetooth function in your car? If not if you connect your phone to your Bluetooth of your car first before the car play unit turns on. When the unit turns on go to Bluetooth as the audio source and then you will be able to listen via Bluetooth which is much better sound. Having trouble using airplay due to my phone being on iOS 17.4, it does say that if I contact them about it they should be able to show me what to do to get it connected. I’ll update if this actually happens. The wife and I are very happy with the unit so thanks very much for bringing it to our attention.

    aux cable issues are earthing related I believe ( after watching loads of vids about similar things, I've a 2009 punto which has blue&me, so BT is just for calls).

      "ground loop isolation" or something. this talks about it. Might not be the same thing of course :)

    Good video. i’m considering the same thing for my 18 plate car. Does the large square screen get in the way of visibility compared to say the more landscape versions?

    • @kiphakes
      @kiphakes  5 месяцев назад +1

      Not in my opinion! The same brand do make a more landscape one, so would recommend that!

      Hi, it does connect via Bluetooth you just have to do it as described in my comments. Hope that helps.

    You would be better off just getting a new car play head unit for your car. Total cost under £300-£400 if you shop around and the install time about 1hr max. They make plug and play harness to retain all functionality for these cars. I did it to mine with same head unit and can’t complain.

    • @kiphakes
      @kiphakes  5 месяцев назад

      That's a LOT more than £120 - and like I said in the video, mine specced up to be more.. so my point still stands - it is the cheapest way to do it.

    Your channel is under-appreciated. I know you as a patreon of "My mate vince". At first I thought you're one of these people tries profit from the fame of another channel and that you would probably don't have much to offer. But I completely changed my opinion. You're very knowledgeable and create interesting content. I especially like your repair videos.

      Who knows… I tend to stick with ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ hence me not going for the absolute rock bottom cheapest version of something.

    Pointless for me if the blue tooth doesn't work to the head. I find FM transmitters constantly lose signal when driving around
