Thanks for the video again! I cannot wait to be out on the water this winter. Where I am currently at, we do ice fishing. I appreciate a lot of seafood in the winter, especially fish as it is has more omega 3 fatty acids, leading to a richer and healthier taste. But you already know that. Will definitely have to visit Ijika one of these days to learn more!
Hi Rikako, thank you for your videos :) they are very helpful in learning about Ama life. I was wondering why sometimes I see Ama using Tampo to dive, and sometimes I see them go out on a boat and dive with a rope around their waist to be pulled up by. Is rope-diving for deeper water than Tampo? Or is it just personal preference?
Good question! I personally dive 7 meters in summer, and 10 meters in winter now. The depth is becoming deeper and deeper every year. I stay underwater for about 30 seconds to 1 minute maybe. I don't count usually, so I'm not very sure.
Good question. I think the conbination of tourism and fishery works. Because working in fishing industry doesn't secure the income of the worker, and tourism such as providing fisherman experience tour or guiding someone to their workplace can be extra income for fishermen and Ama. So, that's what I want to do.

I think it depends on each Ama’s personal preference. I prefer not to attach rope to me cuz I can’t move freely.
How deep can you dive and how long can you stay underwater?
Good question!

Can tourism help preserve the Ama tradition?

Do you really drive without any oxigen tank!🙀
Hi Rikako, sound track is too loud, I'can't hear you!
Oh, really? Sorry about that. I’ll make it nicer next time I make a video.
