I am an HBCU alum. I am not upset. Sanders did a great job for JSU. The football program was in a slump for several years and as a result attendance was down, the program had not participated in the SWAC championship in years, and had not participated in the Celebration Bowl. Sanders honored his contract. The problem is not that Sanders left. The problem is that it took a Sanders to bring JSU alum back to the table of support. We need to support the schools that supported us. We are not supporting our schools which have been historically underfunded. Yes, be upset with the alumni that has not supported their school. We can support our school simply by purchasing a season football pass, basketball pass, or any season sport pass. Support your school. Don't look to outsiders to support your school. I am not calling Sanders an outsider. I am referring to the outsiders he brought to the table. What are we bringing to the table as alums. Start supporting your school. I can't send a million or thousands but I send money every year to my school. I purchase a season parking pass and football pass every year. I stopped purchasing school gear from unlicensed vendors. Financially support your school.

This is from the Washington Post:
Mar 24, 2021 - The governor's move brings the state closer to ending a 15-year-old lawsuit over inequitable funding of Morgan State University, ..
For those that don't know Morgan St is a HBCU in Maryland.
Some of the reasons for Inequalities at HBCU'S :
Inequalities in State funding at HBCU'S,
lack of Corporate Sponsors giving real Deals to HBCU'S for Athletic Funding...some of the reasons Why HBCU'S have lack of funds.
Integration: yes Integration...enrollment decreased less Alumni
Intergration: NFL pipeline from HBCU'S shifted to
White PWI'S getting the best football players...where do you think the loyalty & the money went, IF they made PRO.

God Bless you for the donation . Maybe, if everyone posting on these platforms would give something collectively we could make a difference . Maybe, start a Go Fund Me or a Crowd funding.
These are State Funded schools, so on Par with Ivy League is stretching it.
The Big White PWI'S have Money coming out of their "Wazoo's " and they are not on par with Ivy League Schools in terms of money.
White PWI on par in terms of Facilities, yes because they live & breathe football, I don't think that's the case at most Ivy League Schools.

    • @djay1150
      @djay1150 Год назад

Big Corporate Sponsors give Big Money to these PWI schools.
Ex: Univ of Oregon is in a 11 year, 88Million dollar Sponsorship deal with NIKE.
That's one of the ways they get money in their private Athletic Foundations.
If HBCU'S could get 5 to 10% of a Sponsorship deal like the Oregon States of College Football, it would make a big difference.
      Lack of State Fundi g:
A lawsuit was brought against the State of Maryland for underfunding Maryland HBCU'S.
It took 15 years to settle.
Coppin State University, Bowie State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
      See the Washington Post article.

I didn’t attend an HBCU, so I admittedly have no connection to any of them, but knowing the rich history of HBCUs and the contributions they’ve made to society, as well as the difficulties they have had throughout the years, seeing a figure like “Coach Prime” come to an HBCU was definitely exciting, and I felt as if we would see a renaissance of sorts for HBCUs nationwide.
I think people expected him to stay much longer and encourage more coaches of his caliber to link up with other HBCUs, and kind of facilitate the shift of influence towards HBCUs. No one thought that this would be the short-term thing that it was.
That said, in the short time that “Coach Prime” was there, NO ONE can say that he didn’t plant seeds. No one can say that he didn’t lay a foundation. No one can say that he didn’t leave a mark. The question now becomes, “How will JSU and other HBCUs build on this?”

    • @ljsmixbox44

When you talk about foundation...make sure you do your history
The person that made a difference for the HBCU is..
Eddie Robbinson,Sr. and how he made Grambling State University a "Powerhouse" making the HBCU a house whole name.
During his coaching career, Robinson compiled 45 winning seasons, including winning or sharing 17 Southwestern Athletic Conference championships and nine black college football national championships. He was winless in his three NCAA playoff appearances. Enormous publicity attended Robinson's record-breaking win with Grambling State in 1985. And he accomplished that where it was one of the reasons why the NFL drafted black athletes from HBCU and go on the win Super Bowls. Sanders had nothing to do with that.

He's been dead for decades and, coupled with PWI schools mining the same athletes that USED to go to HBCUs, resulted in less talented rosters and hence a lesser product than was supplied before. Coupled with OUR abysmal financial support back to those respective institutions, it's been a freaking struggle. Deion, who DIDN'T go to an HBCU, brought the attention back and it’s better for the brothers who went there. He did well.

Not Forever, but at least long enough to accomplish what he said he wanted to do after 2 &1/2 seasons . I said half because of Covid.
He made HBCU'S hopeful, once again since integration changed the HBCU'S NFL pipeline .
I think people were hopeful that he would keep getting some of the Top talent.
Now, just like when racist Univ. of Alabama in the 70's decided that they had to get them some Negro Athletes after they lost to USC . USC had Black Athletes.

Another good point made was the need for HBCUs to recruit in their surrounding communities for various types of students not just athletes, however, I do have some disappointment not in Coach Sanders but in the outcome of his leaving because I like others saw his tenure at JSU as a movement vs. a moment, but I still wish him well and will still support the change and uplift that HBCU's need not just in athletics, but academically, and financially.

You see..the people that OWN all the banks, and real estate, and control government, and institutions, and schools and the ENTIRE ECONOMIC system…they WORKED TOGETHER and shared. They built. We always say ‘well , what are YOU doing?” to defend wealthy Black people who take advantage of poor Black people and their hope, which is what DEION did. The GOD he always mentions blessed HIM over so many people, because clearly God plays favorites, and since God does…it would only make sense that the blessings be passed DOWN to those NOT BLESSED, not to expect those NOT BLESSED to give the little they have. Deion was building momentum with the ‘calling’ to level the playing field’ he said that GOD put upon him, but the real CALLING was white approval and white status..not building with his people..carrying the load because he was GIVEN ABUNDANCE…aka MORE THAN HE NEEDS. We are selfish, people like YOU prove it. We fail because of that…not because of slavery or any oppression. Hell, it is clear that we were easily enslaved because we are selfish, and did not work TOGETHER. You cannot conquer an entire race of people unless they are operating as individuals. We are the ONLY race that has been completely conquered…and I now can see why. Selfish. Get ‘Yours’. “You don’t owe anyone anything”. “Do for Self”. All those idiotic beliefs that fly against the face of REALITY, which is working together as a group is the only way to build. We do not do that…so as a collective, we have NOTHING. Deion has money, but is still needs to have his master give him an opportunity because his people cannot. It’s embarrassing how ignorant and backwards we are…as a community.

    1. Coach Prine came to a school and a conference NO ONE was talking about.
    2. ESPN and others were mentioning/airing them on the national stage.
    3. He brought in over $185 million in value to the program and the community.
    4. He donated most of his salary back to help the school and the program. So it wasn’t about the money!
    5. He left a model and a blueprint for what can be done to build up HBCU athletic programs. After he’s gone, that should continue!
    6. He delivered TWO SWAC chips, an undefeated season and did what he said he would do in THREE YEARS! What else do you want?!
So like MOST coaches do, he’s moving on to a better situation for HIM and his staff, and leaving said situation 1000% better than he found it! He was supposed to stay there? Isn’t any coaches desire to elevate themselves and others? Might I add , he allowed Bethune-Cookman to used Jackson st's facilities when they were in town because they had nowhere to practice. What Coach on any level would do that for their rivals?
But, yet again, we see someone’s desire to do better for themselves as a slight against us all…who taught us this? It's kind of like the Willie Lynch syndrome.

Make sure you do your history.

He sold my school and ALL HBCUs a dream about creating a table of equal value instead of begging for a seat at theirs but the FIRST chance he got he cut and ran. This was all strategic……he sought out the school with the largest stadium and fan base for maximum exposure so he could leave. Nobody was giving him a shot until he proved he could recruit 5 star talent bc even if he was undefeated and didn’t recruit well they wouldn’t care about him but now that he’s a threat during recruiting season all the offers came.
He SPECIFICALLY SAID ITS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY BUT ABOUT A LEGACY FOR ALL HBCUs yet used that as an excuse to leave and take most of the talented players with him! This is a slap in the face……he basically told us that one of our best sports institutions isn’t better than their worst……Colorado is a failure but he’s just happy he got the seat he claimed he didn’t want.
