Hi, just rebuilt a 96 engine, main bearings are a pain to remove ( very close to the crank web, can not get a 3 leg Puller behind, or even one of the 2 piece, half round pullers ), I suggest that you use a slitting disk and remove the outer race, then the ball gauge is easily removed, you the have a good place to use a 2 piece half round bearing puller on the inner race, clamping on the concave rad, this worked fine for me.
Thanks for that comment, I was just literally looking at them yesterday and was like how am I getting the bearings off. I was thinking the split half type puller that you mentioned but you already answered that question, not very much room to get behind these bearings.
