The second I realise that powered up is blue-tooth I said ... get a bluetooth controller and get to work programming it. Maybe because I am a seasonal programmer why I was confused when folks were hoping for a controller from lego. A Game controller is so much better.

Hey, thanks for this. However, I would greatly appreciate if you could make the driving work even with the screen on your phone turned off.
Secondly, when I use the original Control+ app for my Audi E-tron the car moves freely for a while when I raise my finger from the acceleration lever. That makes the car move really naturally. But when I use your guide it stops immediately when I stop pushing the trigger for acceleration, like when I was hitting the break. Is there a way to fix this?
And last but not least, does it work with BuWizz 3.0?

@AllTheBricksTogether Does the newest version of the App require enabled location on Android. I cannot connect it with a moga pro 2 but I also cannot enable location settings for the app. The app doesn't show in the list and controller doesn't show in the app. Thank you!

What if you dont have a wireless controller?
I have a cabled one, so no pairing.
Can I just connect the controller to my phone using the USB and it will work with the Lego car?
Also, it makes no sense to have the controls set up like that, with forward/backward being on right analog stick and left/right steering on left analog stick.
its just as bad as the LEGO app. It would make more sense to set it up to be like a racing video game and how the controls are on a controller in those games.
so you have forward mapped to the right trigger (RT or R2 depending on what controller you have), and backward on left trigger (LT or L2) and then you have the left/right steering on left analog stick.
is that possible to setup with this?

Useless. Why I need to connect gamepad to phone when to hub? This is extremly uncomfortable do this every time. Blah!

Very useful: some Lego hubs use BLE, some use regular Bluetooth. Some controllers use BLE, some use regular Bluetooth. And the app translates BT versions, so hubs can be controlled with any controller.

@@d1cn If it convenient for you OK, NP, but in general this looks weird. There only BLE with lego hubs which can be used in normal way to connect some preferential to regular Hub, like PowerUP Hub/Spike Hub. There is already good solution with connecting Xbox game controller directly using PyBrick. The only one thing its required Xbox controller, no any additional layers like app etc.
