Memorial of the Passion of Saint John the Baptist
🔶Gospel🔶
Mk 6:17-29
Herod was the one who had John the Baptist arrested and bound in prison
on account of Herodias,
the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married.
John had said to Herod,
"It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."
Herodias harbored a grudge against him
and wanted to kill him but was unable to do so.
Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man,
and kept him in custody.
When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed,
yet he liked to listen to him.
She had an opportunity one day when Herod, on his birthday,
gave a banquet for his courtiers,
his military officers, and the leading men of Galilee.
Herodias' own daughter came in
and performed a dance that delighted Herod and his guests.
The king said to the girl,
"Ask of me whatever you wish and I will grant it to you."
He even swore many things to her,
"I will grant you whatever you ask of me,
even to half of my kingdom."
She went out and said to her mother,
"What shall I ask for?"
She replied, "The head of John the Baptist."
The girl hurried back to the king's presence and made her request,
"I want you to give me at once
on a platter the head of John the Baptist."
The king was deeply distressed,
but because of his oaths and the guests
he did not wish to break his word to her.
So he promptly dispatched an executioner with orders
to bring back his head.
He went off and beheaded him in the prison.
He brought in the head on a platter and gave it to the girl.
The girl in turn gave it to her mother.
When his disciples heard about it,
they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

Herodias was one of 2 women who were a New Testament post-figuring of Jezebel.
In 'summary': Saint John the Baptist was not the type who was in the habit of flirting with women at work. Nor was saint John the Baptist in the habit of approving how at the time married women were being treated as only slaves which could be whenever their husband wanted to get replaced with another woman like Herodias. Herodias who was only concerned with titles and pleasure for herself including what she believed her daughter Salome the dancer should be insisting on instead so Herodias could get away with hiring a hit man to kill Saint John the Baptist. King Herod when fulfilling Samome's request for Saint John the Baptist's head was so enamored by Salome's dancing that he was willing to do anything to please her at the time. Doesn't take many years of study to figure out why more than only just a dance may have motivated king Herod to approve of execution of Saint John the Baptist. In effect it was at least 4 and maybe 5 people colluding to end the life of Saint John the baptist - Herodias, Salome, Herod Antipasr king of Galillee who was not king of entire Roman Empire at the time and the executioner [hit man] who did the actual killing of Saint John the Baptist. Where Nero was doing and what the exact dates were of all his doings at the time while all that was going on is something which bible scholars, historians, and others should be asking questions about when it comes to what was never told about John the Baptist too.
amen father. it's so hard to be faithful especially in the midst of persecutions where people conform to the standards of this world rather than God's standards. for example father, I believe that it is written in the catechism of the Catholic church that we participate in the sins committed by others if we do not speak against their sins or by protecting evil doers. so, I don't want to participate in the sins of other people that's why I have always spoken against their sins especially if they committed sins against me. I would surely expose their hearts and souls before this world and speak the truth about them because if I remain silent about their sins, then I would have condoned their sins and so I have also committed or participated in their sins. so if I were not with God, maybe father, I just would have kept my mouth shut and allowed myself to participate in their sins. so nope father, I won't allow this to happen. I will continue to fight evil in this world because I am faithful to God no matter what. they belong to this world, I belong to God and I know God fights for me and with me. amen. 🙏🙏🙏
Jesus, I trust in You.

Salve Maria. 🙏😇🌷
question, didn't king herod require some input from Temple officials to execute John the Baptist?
It is also good to be faithful to the truth and not use clickbait tricks to gain views (whoever is writing the titles for the videos).
What about the very odd things Pope Francis has said ,done , had writtemnehd and signed, his treatment of many priests etc, who he sidelined while protecting some who should have been sidelined and I do not have to tell you , like his artist friend , etc. LIKE Paul corrected Peter, and on an on ,Its easy to preach but only those who walk the walk not jus t talk the talk are the real John the Baptist?
We are not John the Baptist, and we are deluded if we think we are like him. If Pope Francis needs fraternal correction, we ought to leave it to those whose role it is. It's easy for us to point our finger and accuse other people; we need to look into our own souls and at our own actions, at our sins in what we have done and in what we have failed to do.
@@matthewjoseph9897you have failed to correct your pope... Don't blame others... John the Baptist did exactly that.... That's why he was martyred... Stop being a wimp... Stand up for truth yourself stop passing the buck
@@chommie5350 It doesn't need courage to type bold comments or letters; it takes courage to follow Christ in our daily duties and area of influence.
