John Mayer has so many great riffs... BUT "Belief" and "Edge of Desire" might be my two favorite Mayer progressions. Mayer has been a inspiration to so many because he has dived into so many different genres over his career. His whole Born & Raised album became one of my favorites and that is more of a Singer-Songwriter/Americana/Folk side of him. His JM3 stuff is out of this world. The guy cannot do wrong!
John Mayer is one of the greatest guitarists of his era. It's not just the Pilgrim's skill that is incredible, but he gets the most fantastic tone out of his strat.
You play with personal joy and enthusiasm. I a 75 year old guy playing for 66 years as a session musician and doing rewrites,l. Now I have 137 guitars to sell from the 40s to about the 80s. I guess getting I am old. Going to keep a few I really like. Good stuff. Keep it up.
What a great riff!! John Mayer is an amazing guitarist. I've been listening Friends, lovers, or nothing lately, that song has a fantastic intro and melody.
A huge amount of his solos are actually BB.King 'hommages' specially early on, as John himself said 'i regret playing stock BB licks over so many of my early solos'
I love this riff so much, thanks for the video. You did an amazing job breaking that down. To answer your question! Mayer has so many fantastic riffs that makes it hard to choose one. But if I think about his acoustic stuff it's definitely the 'Something like Olivia' acoustic version. :)
Thank you for the lesson! Perfect song choice😍 Love your channel, you deserve much more subscribers! Neon, Something like Olivia, Belief... I love all Mayer!💜
Great lesson. I always wanted to understand how that riff was pulled off. Thank you for sharing your research & knowledge. You have made me a better guitarist & preserved some of the best music written for generations to come. Jim
my fav is the riff from Neon. Oh, hang on, BELIEF. Oh, no, HELPLESS... Sorry, one too many. Make that everything from John Mayer ;) More John Mayer videos please - am subscribed ;) :) :) ;)

wow didn't know this song was so awesome and hell yeah "Bleeding heart" by jimi hendrix is one of those hendrix's signature strato struttin riffs!!!! Killer groove like hes mannish boy version aswell
If you learned this riff and think its easy, check out John mayer playing this alone in Japan. If you want to get a right hand like Mayer, learn every live version you can find of this song...
Even though I can't play guitar, I always enjoy your excellent videos! BTW, how is your baby girl doing? Hope that all is well & that all of you are staying safe! 👍👍😉😉

To be fair, almost any riff by John Mayer is killer
To be honest a single note he plays is better than what most of the world would play together
@@elbabyvillegas194 the single note he plays is better than all of the guitarist combined together.

That muted with single string is incredibly difficult!
You make everything look easy. For me nothing is easy.. ;o)

She is starting make more sounds, which is awesome!!
Someone needs to do a video about Guitar Pilgrim!!
if we re talking about this song i wish you would also talk about the band of gypsies interlude
Please make a video on Steve Lukather or Neal Schon's guitar playing on lights.
Amazing, how about making a video about David Gilmour?
Dont forget that 5th fret on the A string too
Very nice vid I like John mayer. But how many times and years should i have to request you to do a vid on Robert Cray.plis Right next Door.
Or dont be afraid of dark or smoking gun....
And what about Clarence Gatemouth Brown...Frankie and johnny I love his guitaring style.
@@moachangki indeed 'don't be afraid'
Man you can sure play
Really wish Mayer would do another blues album
Agreed!
S.R.V. very original 🤔
Thanks for this.
That’s awesome!!!
I literally played that about half an hour ago. Fairly tricky to play to be honest.
Hmmm ...why do I hear ... Funk 49 ...here ? 👍😎🎸
Can you also feature Derek Trucks? 😁
Is the lick on "Good Love is on the way" similar to the one on this track?
What's the title of the song?
Like I heard a child of Jimmy and SRV combined...
very cool
Nice.
F A N T A S T I C :-)
1:11 - 1:17 Amazing Jimi Hendrix
Belief
please do David Gilmour
Make a video about Oasis 🔥
you play it wrong, but still sounds amazing
muito bom parabéns Pilgrim
Honestly just sounds like diet blood sugar sex magik
How it is 4/4 ?
✨🎸✨
Weeeeew❤️
Why never talk about Gary Moore?
Net een weekje geleden geleerd!! Hahah
That's no exaggeration -that was a killer riff!
He’s an amazing guitarist but I just think a lot of his songs aren’t very good
Tbh his best songs are SRV and Hendrix covers
true.
Your right hand movement always seems odd to me. It looks like it floats and you barely touch strings...
