Its 1000% worth the trip up the hill, we didnt get to see the stars at night but I can only imagine how beautiful it would be! This was our highlight of our trip to the Big Island!
it's pronounced Mauna Kay-a not key-a. The Hawaiian "e" is pronounce "ay" Also, the other volcano you were pointing to was Mauna Loa, not Kilauea. Great video though.
Early afternoon, I would recommend giving yourself at least 2 hours from the visitor center to the top of the mountain. They shut down the roads in the evenings at times, when roads get fog/ice.
The passenger kept pointing to mauna loa and calling it kilauea. Also, went there in 2022. Summit was closed for weather as well. Didn't get a chance to go back, so thanks for posting. How long did it take to go from the visitor center to the summit?

It takes about 45 mins it get to the top from the visitor center, so an hour before sunset should be enough time

Not that i expected a pot of gold, but Ive never seen the end of a rainbow before, i have seen double and triple rainbows but not that.
We were hoping for the pot of gold 💰 but the full rainbow was definitely awesome to see!

Is it easy to drive to the Summit? I am a female driver who isn't that great. Travelling with my 15 years old niece.
The drive isn't difficult, just need to have a 4x4 vehicle and more than half a tank of gas to reqch the summit

@walterlau3 it took about 30 - 40 minutes to get to the top from the visitor center.

Yes, We rented through a private party. Most regular rental cars you can't take to the top
