Thank you for the interesting overview of the LAMY pens. I stayed away from the brand for years because they're just not my style and I was too cool for them. However, I broke down and joined the club a few years ago and I don't regret it at all. The nib is fantastic and the triangle grip works well for me, even if their design is just not my cup of tea. They certainly represent German functionality very well. The AL-Star is my favorite for daily use, and someday I might make my own Star Wars stormtrooper Safari out of white and black pens. The LAMY 2000 I don't know if I'll ever get, but despite the fact that I'm not a fan of Bauhaus style, that cigar shape is pleasing to the eye.

Lamy is actually a somewhat polarizing brand. While most everybody seems to love their Safari/Al-Star/Vista. And the Lamy 2000 is perennial fan favorite. I have also seen many commenters over the years often say that they find Lamy’s designs very boring, unappealing - and their nibs too quirky and unsatisfying.
I admit I always disliked the Safari & Co line of pens. Never bought one. Very ambivalent about the very popular Studio. Again, never bought it.
However, I love the Lamy 2000 to pieces. I own three of them, and would have even bought a fourth already, if the colored limited editions of the pen weren’t always so outlandishly, exorbitantly priced. But I will look to get a fourth one with an OB or OBB nib in the future, if the price is right. I won’t sing a further ode to the Scala, as you already know my score on that lovely pen, Mona. 🙂
There are a few others in Lamy’s line of pens worth looking at. The Imporium/Persona being top of that list for me. Lamy’s design, engineering and QC have always been top drawer. In my opinion and experience anyway. The designs are so immaculate, with their trademark unfussy, clean lines and minimalistic look. Very quintessentially modern and attractive, at once. Some of Lamy’s vintage pens are very worthy of consideration.
Long comment, but you know me. 😀
