im proud to call myself a Sri Lankan🇱🇰. This performance contains so much meaning and is highly respected for its ethnic cultures and traditions and highlights the true bond of nationalism that showcased within this performance. Still watching in 2023.
im tamil and im proud of my country sri lanka ... I wish we all can live happy there and thats the wish of 99 % of tamils only few makes unwanted problem ..
Ramitha Eshan I am also Tamil! I am a bit dissapointed of the show. It didn't show the Cultural variaty. I wish i could see more of it. I love my country and the People of it....but i absolutely hate Mahindaraja bakshan and his team...
thelabadabada There is no any cultural variaty. This is sinhala Buddhist country but Tamil, Muslim and any others can live there without any problem. But they want to understand culture. Same as India is a Hindu country. America is a Christian country, Pakistan is a Muslim country. If you cant agree with it go anywhere.
parayaka parayaka I totally disagree with you. A country is a union that unites all the people of it, regardless of their beliefs. It is wrong to say That Sri Lanka is a budhist country. Politics and religion are separated. Sri Lanka is not/ should not be a theocracy as you say it. THE PEOPLE OF SRI LANKA ARE NOT SHINGALESE , they are SRILANKAN!!! Remember that my friend!
thelabadabada true, but there is a theory of majority vs minority, you will see this all around the world, depending on who predominates in population each country....
I saw some comments about arguing about Sri Lanka is not a Sinhala Country. There's two types as majority and minority . In sri lanka sinhalese are the majority. If u search from Google or anything u will find there's a main religion for each country n that is the most accepted religion. Bt that's not the point ❗ we all are here to watch the video. Just enjoy it don't argue . I'm a sinhalese bt also I'M A SRI LANKAN and we all are in one world so we are sisters and brothers. Please don't argue . It's a beautiful performance just appreciate it 🌸
Best of Sri Lankan traditional dance forms, all in one stage, done in 13 minutes. Well done. Great costumes, great beat and very athletic performers; the way dancing should be!
One of the best I have seen about authentic Sri Lankan dance performed on stage. Mind you, prince Charles and other heads of state are in the audience.
Shanika Weerasundara But it hides the whole history..The dark past(and present). Srilanka will never be a peaceful country until it admits its negative side. This performance is only a play..it hides the reality of the every day life in sri lanka. They could at least have presented the dark past in a optimistic perspective
We are away yet keep you closer to our hearts, this is my heritage and our heritage!! Ayubowan! And these are the moments we treasure forever ! Thilangika and I Love Sri Lanka Network' s Channel..
I love how the performance showed all the unique cultures of Sri Lanka without turning it into some trashy fushion show. It maintained the traditional culture of the island, and the costumes were also done to be traditional. I loved the folk dances that showed rural farming life, based on real folk songs. I hope we preserve this amazing culture, and don’t try to westernize everything, but rather embrace.
This was absolutely beautiful, and it's like the 50th time I've come back to watch it haha. It would have been perfect if things started with King Ravana (as someone mentioned below) and also included the parts of our history that include the colonial rule. Portuguese, Dutch and British influences, especially since they are an integral part of our language and the way we do certain things today. And perhaps more representation from our other ethnic groups as well. I noted the little touch of Tamil dance towards the end, but it seems almost like an afterthought. I mean, we are who we are because of our history and because of our diversity. A little more diversity would have made this perfect. Love it nevertheless :)
for all sinhalese and tamil people of Sri Lanka, we are now at a stage to understand that, as common citizens we have only two choices left, "unite and prosper" or "divide and wither". Remember both sinhalese and tamil politicians share the same vine bottle at 5 star hotels and spread hate speeches in the political rallies both in north and south. They help each other, marrying their children each other and advice you to hate the other race. Should we be dumb idiots any more in front of these cheaters any more? We have ruined the golden 80s and 90s to make a better country for us, so lets not repeat the same mistake again, we are lagging way behind other nations.
stage design is sooo stupidly done, there is no way one can capture the whole scene because their front view is only limited to wot is on the stage, but acts on the balcony is hardly noticed, I think public who is in the sitting area can see more beauty of the act. Country leaders surely must have had a neck fracture after watching it, how can we spend so much money for this event and not design the siting area in a proper way.
In a common wealth summit there is a standard for the stage design and stuff. Go and see previous gatherings. They always arrange seating area for the leader on the stage. And the performances are not for them it is for the audience. This is the event where they introduce the leaders who are gathered to the host nation. Actual gathering and the conference happen elsewhere coz unlike other meetings common wealth summit is not formal it is just a casual gathering of world leaders to talk about the problems occur in the world!
+Shehani Illangakoon you cant just disown the second ethnic group like that. its attitude like you, that led us to a 30 year war. even Muslim culture would be there, only that, they dont DANCE
