    This not just a Notion course; it is an identity reconstruction program.
    You can capture all identities you exhibit,
    clarify macroscopic and microscopic implications observed between them,
    reorganise the taxonomy of their motivational value,
    reflect upon the outcome of such fundamental reorganisation and,
    at last, witness the benefits of the massive reorientation towards, freshly uncovered, true motivational drive.

    I'm so happy to have found someone who is a systems master. I love notion for it's ability to create your own system, but I have a question that I don't think many Notion users ask and I'm sure you've thought about it.
    How can we build something as important as our life's work and personal systems in a platform that's propetary and will unevitable fade away?
    This is why I've worked on learning things like emacs (spacemacs) where due to it being open-source and free, it is in fact actually future proof, where all data is fully owned by the user.
    I still love notion and want to keep growing my systems there, but this is an important question that I don't see many people addressing, and I'd love to know your opinion!

    • @SantiYounger
      @SantiYounger 3 года назад +3

      @Noticias de Kpop no worries, propietary software means that it's own by a company, companies eventually end. Compared to free open source software, where the software belongs to the community that uses it.
      Notion is excellent, and some things in it are unreplaceable, but not being able to own your own files is a huge downside. Instead we are forced to store everything in the company's cloud.
      Honestly, I think it's okay to use Notion as long as you keep this in mind. I personally think that using it in combination with something like Obsidian (which allows you to own your files) is a good idea.

I am sure so many of us Notion users are waiting on the API & other Integrations to open up! I have no doubt that when it does, that some of the things we’ve been doing to manually get by in Notion would become obsolete or redundant haha.

      Great to see you progressing! The API will be a major game changer here, more so than with other apps because Notion is (in our approach) the hub of everything. So connecting the central operational hub through API and Zapier will empower it beyond other tools. It will definitely change how I do the input of data/info.

    • @augustbradley
      @augustbradley  4 года назад +11

      Hey Cullin, great topic for further discussion. Yes I am able to, but it was not always the case. It took a big commitment to implementing a mindset and a rigorous system to get there. Now I'm religious abut it. I hear you, it's hard to get to that place. it's not easy to establish. But it is doable. I will be doing a video just on Weekly/Monthly reviews and will discuss this further. Bottom line is you have to commit to the overall system. And if you blow it and miss one, don't beat yourself up over it, just get back on track the next week. NEVER miss twice in a row. The reviews are the single most important part of the system, they save you from any other breakdowns elsewhere.

      @@augustbradley Noted, but for a short intro it has flaws:
      - it is not short enough -> many good ideas which would be better with examples (then not intro) or as a summary (after a series)
      - it misses the punch - if it was aimed at 1-2 min intro to what it is and 1-2 min visualization of what you can get (=the superpowers you gain), then it could have a better effect (on me at least); the core critic is what role the intro should have -> IMHO to get a minimal introduction on the topic of what follows and gains to motivate people to actually follow
      - it does not work as a standalone (without the examples), and here I see it as such -> I don't see links in the description to followup
      - there already was an intro to Systems Thinking; this one, without examples does not differentiate itself enough IMHO
      Great idea, much potential but for me almost no value with those caveats. Either by being shorter, with links to some followup material, or longer, with examples, it could be a 10/10.

    I can't break into "systems thinking". I watched this video, several others on youtube, and read a book about it. No one speaks about it in clear terms; it all sounds like alot of buzz words. Very few people use examples to talk about it which makes me very suspicious. I can't really derive anything meaningful out of the idea other than you're supposed to try to anticipate externalities. If that's all it is, doesn't really seem like it needs a name.
    However, there's admittedly an appealing 'intellectual aesthetic" behind making flow charts and talking about feedback loops etc so I want to understand the concept better. What am I missing? Can someone point me in the direction of a clear video or primer on the idea?

      The 20+ videos that follow this one present systems thinking in extreme detail, in a very practical real-world way. The entire series is an extremely specific application of the high level concepts in this video. That's why this is positioned as an introductory video to the series. It's all part of the same thing. It may seem esoteric but it is a fundamental concept. To add to your understanding, you might delve into Cybernetics, where many of these ideas were originally developed and given rigorous form. W. Ross Ashby wrote one of the classic texts in this area. (A PDF of his Introduction to Cybernetics is here pespmc1.vub.ac.be/books/IntroCyb.pdf
      See also Norbert Weiner. (From the Wikipedia page: Norbert Wiener defined cybernetics in 1948 as "the scientific study of control and communication in the animal and the machine") But the list of important thinkers who contributed to this area seems endless, from Gregory Bateson to Maxwell, Demming, and Turing. The concept of self-regulation and feedback is fundamental in most, if not all systems in nature.
      The key concept here is CONTROL. An essential part of any cybernetic system is the feedback loop. I cannot think of a system in nature which does not have a negative feedback loop continually running to keep it stable. The failure of the negative feed back control loop is often spectacular ... think of volcanic eruptions, for example. :)
