    While I loved John's Dior, I think it was simply just too much for him. In all honesty, I just want John to come back to his own label under LVMH. (Or if he can just buy back his name from LVMH, that would be great too.) It's so sad that his own namesake label isn't even doing shows anymore and the product offering they are doing just seems to be reproductions or riffs on things he's done in the past.

      @michaelocampo9786 Absolutely... I loved, *love* his menswear at his own label. I collect it as best I can, at the time and now... Seeing his label stripped to the point that they couldn't or wouldn't even print the original "Galliano Gazette" template on t-shirts without simplifying the print to cost cut is just dumbfounding and heartbreaking to me...

    John galliano is at The best place he can be right now! Remember is near 60 and its a lot of work to put on 14 shows a year like at dior. Dior has the perfect person right now. She is in her groove and i think she may have something up her sleeve they may be new.

    I love Galliano but he doesn’t seem to be the most mentally healthy or stable of people. My speculation is that he is doing so well at Margiela because he gets kid glove treatment and is heavily accommodated. I doubt he would get that treatment at Dior (as part of LVMH) and the result would be another train wreck. He should probably stay where he is, I don’t think there is another brand that could handle him.

    • @ragdollmag
      @ragdollmag 4 месяца назад +9

      He was overworked at Dior and self medicating the stress of that with alcohol which led to the train wreck. While I really loved his version of Dior I want him to do well and not relapse with another disaster. Hopefully he can continue where he is while bringing more of his own style with Margiela. Or, maybe he could design for his own namesake again one day. Or another thought I had was, maybe he could just concentrate on couture and have another designer interpret/be inspired from that for ready to wear so he wouldn't have such a hefty work load and be able to focus on the thing he loves most.

    Hell NO! He is doing a great job at Margiela and Dior sacked him. You move forwards not backwards. I have to agree that MGC is not inspirational or innovative . However I believe the clothes do sell and they make a profit. Dior is no longer a leader, they are just a player.
    But myself, I find fashion is going through a really dull phase. No one is exciting or bringing anything new. Do you agree? I've been following fashion since I was 18 years old. I am now 54 so theres limits :)

      I think I mentioned it in the video but my perspective on this is that innovation has stalled from the major brands and a lot of stuff they produce now is very uninspiring. However, I think fashion in general is in a good place. I see so much fresh and innovative things coming from emerging designers - it’s just a shame they don’t get the same news cycle and marketing as the bigger brands

    I know this is your channel, and you and guests are entitled to speak your minds, but, listening to this incessant MGC-bashing, I want to scream, “Stop this nonsense!”
    Truth is, you’ve never accepted MGC at Dior. Maybe because she doesn’t fit the mold of a self-regarding “artist” like Galliano and Simons? Sure, you can dislike her designs, but it’s just so off-the-mark to say she has no design vision of her own. During her tenure, MGC has successfully created an image of the Dior woman that is youthful yet sophisticated, elegant, self-assured, and dignified (with that I mean, you don’t have to show cleavages and curves to be feminine and alluring). That image can be traced back to her Valentino days and was at that time already in ascendence over Galliano’s more overtly sexy, drag-queen styles. Myself a Galliano fanboy, I had an aha moment at the “Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition: Next to his brilliant yet overwrought designs, MGC’s looked more contemporary - and fresh!
    Beyond the clothes, MGC as Creative Director has also built Dior (to be sure, with the help of Pietro Beccari and now Delphine Arnault) into a brand of true relevance, through her tireless spotlight on feminism and global artisanship. This is not just “woke marketing.” MGC has shown - through her many collaborations as well as her own ethnic-inspired designs - integrity, curiosity, understanding, and a cooperative spirit so rare in fashion. Think back to Galliano’s forays into exotic cultures - again, they may be brilliant, but they’re almost embarrassing in its lack of in-depth regard of the “other.”
    You and your guest gleefully speculate on when MGC’s tenure would end and who would succeed her. Let me say, after her rebranding of Dior as a House that really stands for contemporary femininity, I tremble to think who or what could follow - back to edgy, unwearable, irrelevant “fashion”?

    I think the formulaic shows and looks, and the absurd numbers of looks she presents each show, is related to the four basic Dior customers. Parisians (or wannabes;), 1% female executives, both those groups on their holidays (the boho looks), and her extensive Middle Eastern and Asian markets. It works for sales, but makes for really boring shows.
