One is a person fighting for the memory of his lost mother. another is a person trying to protect his friends. nether of them want to fight at all but they are forced into it. along with the typical anti war gundam message, this has to be the best selling point of the series.
I love that despite Kira supposedly being our Protagonist. Shinn fights like a video game player character. Like he just keeps swapping out parts (healing) and using resources . While the Freedom pretty much just has what it has builtin and can carry with it like a boss fight

Kira was literally holding back the entire time. Shin just uses that to his advantage since he knows he can sacrifice parts since Kira would only try to disable an enemy, not kill them. Shin even says that Kira only aims to disable.

Shinn had 3 advantages going for him here 1. The Impulse's ability to swap parts 2. Kira was kind of distracted and not really focusing on Shinn 3. Shinn had actually been given some info on the Freedom and Kira's fighting style before facing him so he knew what to expect and was able to predict Kira's move easier.
Shinn is like us in this moment when fighting against a boss in a video game, you study the patterns and the mechanics. Good thing is Kira here didn't go into phase 2 or else Shinn would've died many times 😂
The plot armor is not strong in the these fights, the aftermath I will grant you, there is plot armor, Kira ultimate coordinator apparently gives him major protection vs explosion, but the actual fights itself is brutal and makes sense considering all factors. If kira never reappeared after these fights, using his one a session never found the body card, there would be no signs of plot armor involved. But as a protagonist, he never stays dead.
the end scene shows him cutting the nuclear power off from, the unit. For me this is a very considerate move of the writer to not obviously make the MC covered by plot armor and aat the same time showing how kira is a very well the ultimate coordinator on how he manages his mobile suit, if anyone else were in his position they wont have much time to think desicively..
Honestly the plot armor isn't the only thing at play. They stress that Kira's distracted doing the fight, which played into the loss. And as I have pointed out MANY times. the Freedom isn't likely powered by a NUCLEAR reactor. It's most likely a FUSION reactor (The OG gundam series set the standard for this, and most people associate Fusion with nuclear power anyway) meaning that even though Kira gets stabbed through the stomach, it's likely the engine is BEHIND the cockpit and what Shin really hit was the balance Gyroscope. combine that with the N-jammer canceler being shut down and even with catastrophic damage the cockpit housing was largely intact. oh sure the blown circuits and probably shrapnel from the machine's catastrophic damage probably injured Kira. but compared to what could have happened if Shin had been aiming higher... yeah.

I love the freedom. I don't love Kira's character arc in Detsiny. So as someone that both loves Freedom, and the interchangeability of the Impulse, this was a dream fight. It was idealism vs practicality. I was as devastated as you when freedom was destroyed. ....But then it came back like 3 episodes after. Ruining that entire moment.
Freedom shouldn't have lost to the impulse kira is far more experienced and the freedom is so much more powerful as a Gundam compared to the virgin impulse

Shinn used that to his advantage as well as the fact that the Impulse had multiple chest and leg flyer parts to replace what ever was destroyed. Kira made only one attempt to kill Shinn by trying to slice Impulse in half at the torso where the core splendor was, but Shinn was ready for that and separated the legs and torso to deny Kira the kill.
Kira became a pilot out of circumstances, gained experience from each battle he fought. Athrun and shin joined the army trained with them and had more resources and most of the time Kira would beat their aces they really just beat him 1 out of 10 times. Athrun was lucky he had a self destruct option and shin spend a long ass time studying Kira’s ass.
Athrun was literally the only one to have never lost once he tried. He tied with Kira AND Shinn both the minute he used SEED Mode. If anything, Kira was the one who was lucky that Athrun ran out of fuel before he could fire a beam into the cockpit. Kira would’ve been dead if it weren’t for that. I’d say Athrun has the skills and the experience to at least back up him being a pilot equal, if not sometimes BETTER than Kira in a few cases.
And this is the part that literally immortalized Kira. Hving your cockpit wide open and literally locked on by a self destructing gundam and still survive without a scratch. What's up with that?
I can respect Shin’s piloting prowess and strategy, I’m honestly more disappointed in Kira. Just beam rifle and beam saber, forgot the other 4 hulking bits of weaponry that could have helped him still play defensively.
Shinn kept up melee pressure to the point where those weapons would be next to useless (Freedom overall focuses on mid to long-range engagement). Hell, there was a point where he managed to shoot the beam rifle out of Freedom's hand, so there's really nothing saying the same thing wouldn't happen to the wing cannons or railguns.

But the major advantage Shinn did have in this is studying Kira’s fighting style, and having Kira fight exactly like his homework showed

Tactics and luck are what won for the impulse. Shin's an Okay pilot, but he had to honestly have a serous guardian angel to survive Kira and the freedom. Personally I would have done this fight totally differently. But that's just me. And I chalk it up to cultural differences too.
I like how Kira got wrecked in the second one. He's doing his protagonist thing but he has an enemy who takes advantage of spare parts and fights like he wants to be the protagonist even though he knows it's always Jesus Kira. lol
I mean... they designed the impulse to have replaceable parts. So odds are they were made to be effective but cheap to produce. 250 mil per core unit (upper torso) Maybe another 200 mil for each leg unit, plus the backpacks and weapons. probably about another 200 million per core Splendor. plus the cost of training the pilot you probably got about a couple billion per machine.

Kira surviving that explosion in Seed had an explanation and it made sense, but in Seed Destiny?! that was just some bullshit man he literally got nuked coz Freedom is nuclear powered.
Common misconception, Shinn stabbed the Freedom under the cockpit and nuclear reactor, as for the explosion that wasn't nuclear but the positron blast from the Minerva.
i think because of the phase shift armor protected it just enough and kira detached the reactor so maybe thats how he survive i dont know this is just my thought

I was devastated when Freedom was destroyed. Of all the Gundams I've seen, the Freedom is my personal favorite Gundam.

Kira surviving that explosion in Seed had an explanation and it made sense, but in Seed Destiny?! that was just some bullshit man he literally got nuked coz Freedom is nuclear powered.
Common misconception, Shinn stabbed the Freedom under the cockpit and nuclear reactor, as for the explosion that wasn't nuclear but the positron blast from the Minerva.

i think because of the phase shift armor protected it just enough and kira detached the reactor so maybe thats how he survive i dont know this is just my thought

According to the plot. just because he is a special coordinator, he is able to do anything with minimal error with minimal effort
@@inotg13nn20 well, if we dig at how Coordinator work, being a Perfect one just mean that all the gene mod his dad wanted to put in him is there instead of only a few ( Coordinator mod doesn't alway take or some time even backfire horribly)
so he is basically a super human who can in fact learn shit that fast
to add to that, his dad have access to Mu family DNA which have low New Type level and considering how Cagali have Seed factor, the Yamato genetic must have it pre-install and Kira dad some how shove all of it in him
so not only is his body super human, he have 2 more super power shove in him
