I had a day out at Chesterfield yesterday, it's famous for it's crooked spire. The church was open so I couldn't resist taking a look inside. Come on in, I will show you around.
Thank You God such beauty has been preserved. It is a gorgeous church, and I grew quiet, still inside, just seeing the images from so far away. It must have been doubly so for you, walking it, Ilona. As always, thank you.
It’s always good to see your videos come up. And the architecture in the churches are amazing. Just beautiful. Just in time for the most important season and holiday, Easter. Thank you Ilona. ❤️
I was born in Chesterfield..and christened in that church ... there’s a few urban myths about why the spire is crooked ...some of them a bit naughty 😂...hope you enjoyed your visit !
Yes, it was interesting. Chesterfield was built on so many different levels. It's very confusing to walk around it. Underpasses and overpasses, twists and turns. It's easy to get lost.
@@meanqueensuperscrimper8908 ..The town has changed a good deal in the last few years ..and I’ve lived away for a long time ..though I still visit often as most of my family are still there...I’ve taken a few wrong turns ..but luckily as I know the landmarks I manage to get back on track ..
Thank you for the tour. Just thinking about the labor involved to build a structure like this is mind boggling. To have this still standing in all it's glory is a testament to the craftsmen, stone masons, carpenters, glass artists and more, who built it and to the people preserving it for future generations.
I do often wonder how they managed to build such beautiful buildings a hundred years ago, when the modern day buildings crumble and fall down or have to be taken down.
I watched and thought the twisted spire was a one-off, then read this online: "In 1994, it also became the UK's only representative in the Association of the Twisted Spires of Europe; of the 72 member churches, it is deemed to have the greatest lean and twist." Who would've thought there are 72?!
In the past I've passed by the church many times, it was lovely to see inside.

Crooked spire and favorite soap -- your explorations turn up quite a variety of interesting things.
