Watching the boats go up the river
This is the River Trent. I came here for a walk on Wednesday. I once walked 119 miles along this river. It took me seven days. From Burton on Trent, to Scunthorpe. I did a series of blog posts about it. On this one there are photo's of several bridges as I was walking through Nottinghamshire.

A gentle stroll next to water.

I take time off from the gruelling schedule I put myself through, tongue firmly in cheek, ha ha. It's hard work being a pensioner. Don't know how I find time to keep the house looking pristine, just in case I have friends round for a dinner party. Tongue still in cheek. Running around after people takes it's toll, there has to be some respite. Thank goodness for the Great British countryside.
Don't get scammed.

Chatting while drinking coffee and making bunting. A story about how someone was scammed. Be careful. The scammers are after you. They ring you pretending they are from your bank. They have noticed unusual transactions on your account. They can be very believable with their story. They want your bank details so they can rob you. Don't respond, put the phone down, say nothing.
What have you got planned for today

With the shorter days of doom and gloom it is difficult to plan anything. Eight hours of daylight during the winter months are not enough for me. I change my plans according to the weather. At this time of year I look for indoor events, and dream about getting back outside in the spring.

Visiting Claxby Church and The Old Rectory.

I first came here to do a walk in the area, eleven years ago. I have been back twice since, the last time was two years ago. I wanted to check out The Old Rectory, a lovely five bedroom house that had been abandoned. It is now soon coming up for auction. I wanted to take photo's before it is handed over to new owners. I am uploading the photo's to the blog which will take several days. Keep che...

How much food can you get for £35 at M & S . How does it compare to my normal Aldi shop. How do the prices compare with where you shop.
Summerhouse update. Ongoing project.

I have screwed the new door to the corner of the Summerhouse, and added a new roof to the cat shelter. There is now a lamp in the porch, which I can see from the house. Still more painting to do. Come and have a look inside.
Thinking about risk assessment.

How do you approach risks? Do you consider everything you do to have an element of risk attached to it? Or do you dive straight in without a thought for the consequences should it go wrong?

There are lots of ducks at the park. I took a bag of wild bird seed. Fun to watch them come running.
Tarting up the Summerhouse,

I built the Summerhouse in 2015 out of pallets and doors, and anything else I could find. It was featured on Shed of the Year in 2016 and won Best Budget Shed. It is still dry inside, it has been used for wood storage ever since I had the garage taken down. Now I am decluttering it and will give it a new coat of paint.

Mayze comes on to the table next to me every night for a cuddle. It's the end of the month. Is anyone still doing the walking challenge? 1000 miles in one year. This is the place to check in if you are still taking part. I am not going to make the target but I am still walking. 745 miles so far. Two months left to go.

I took some photo's of a hotel last week which sadly is no more. It was on the banks of the Humber. It got flooded. It was closed when we were told to stay at home. It was vandalised. It caught fire. It was a top class hotel. I tweaked the photo's with contrast and saturation to bring out the colours.
A gorgeous place to live

Someone made a comment that I live in a gorgeous place. It hasn't always been like that. I have lived in bedsits, flats, and a caravan. Some places were on busy streets, very noisy, some were rented, some shared, and I bought a house and sold three times. It's been a long journey to find somewhere that I am happy with. I am a country bumpkin at heart.

Hi lovely thank you for taking us with you❤
That was a lovely little dog! Nice video. 😊
Happy Thanksgiving!🍁🍽
A lovely walk and wonderful sunshine 👍☀️
Lovely walk Ilona. Blessings to all ❤
Lovely walk ilona beautiful views & the reason you've got a good immune system is because you look after yourself eating good nutrition & keeping yourself moving if you do research on germ theory you'll find out that they've been lying to us for over 200 years & the corrupt families behind the scenes funded pasteur's theory instead of the other French guy I can't remember his name who put forth terrain theory because they knew if they could promote germ theory it would make big pharma lots of money. And it has.
You’re my favourite person on RUclips 🙏❤️
And you are my most favourite. xxx
Enjoyed the beautiful walk❤
I feel the same as you. I’m lucky enough to have a daughter. Which answered my loneliness question instintively. I craved a relationship and marriage with a guy in my younger years but always found it unrealistic as they would be dabbling with other girls and would never commit. I found my peace a long time ago. And love the freedom of controlling your finances, where you go, what you wear and even how much you weigh. Least I don’t have that male attitude stink around me 24/7 where your living in the shadow of fisticuffs if you said the wrong thing. My Mum and Nan were the same. I love male company but only at a distance now. I find you get the best out of their company that way
Thank you for your comment.
I came across these hoodies a couple of years back. I’d rather pay for this kinda thing than electric bills. Also milky coffees in the microwave keep you warm too every few hours
Beautiful, Thank you. :))
hope you enjoyed your walk IIona, lovely colours out & about just now. thanks for posting 🙂🦆🦢🌲🌄
Hi Ilona, thank you for taking us on your walk. Have a good evening xxx
I have got one of those over sized hoodies, absolutely fabulous, will be very useful when the weather turns icy cold as has been predicted. Thank you Ilona for the tip👍
My computer knowledge is also about 0 Ilona! All I have is an ipad to use and at least you know how to get on you tube and post stuff! I'm useless and can't seem to learn how. I think in the winter I like to be cosy at home! Best wishes! 💛💫💛. Sandra Jo.
I bought a Silent Night electric throw almost 3 years ago & it's saved me a fortune in heating. I initially bought cheaper ones from Ebay & Cozee Home, but they overheated & had to be thrown away after just one & a half winters worth of use. Silent Night one cost slightly more but is so much better, safer & has worked out a lot cheaper as it's still going strong.
I have got the most wonderful story about a scammer. There was a lady in the next town who was recently convinced to draw a large amount of cash out of her bank account and put it in a box and meet a car in a parking lot and hand the box over. After a few days, she realized how foolish she been and she called the police. She described the vehicle and the men in it. It turns out, the police had stopped the men and talked to them about a tail light that was out on their car. There was a record of the vehicle’s make model and license plate and the driver’ driver license, with name and address. They were soon apprehended.
I like a happy ending.
I just hang up. Rude I know, but so is scamming innocent people. 😊
Wow very professional x
love the fabric I have had scammers tell them to go and knit a jumper and put the phone down love the video it's good you telling the story and helping others think not to do it. I dont do bank online I go to my bank. I have cash in my purse dont use my card.
I signed up to the telephone preference service. I no longer get scam calls, if the odd scam call sneaks through my phone alerts me saying ‘likely nuisance call’. I don’t answer my phone anyway if I don’t recognise the caller, if it’s important they’ll leave a message
Your channel showed up in my algorithm, so I stopped to have a look. What a lovely surprise to see you had visited Claxby! I am Canadian born and bred, but my dad was a Lincolnshire lad whose ancestors were from all around that area. His first cousin still lives in the village. It was so nice to see the churchyard where my grandmother, her parents and other family members are buried. In fact, I could spot their graves! Our first family trip to England was in 1972 when we met our grandmother who sadly passed away a couple of months later in 1973. The last time I visited her grave in Claxby was in 2013. My great grandfather was a bellringer in that church all his adult life until he died in the 1943. Thank you for the video. I really needed to feel connected to my heritage today. 🇨🇦🇬🇧
Hello. Glad you have found my Claxby video. Thank you for sharing your story. If you go to my blog, click on this link for the 7th November, you will find some other links to my previous blog posts. I first found The Old Rectory in 2013, then went again twice more to see if anything had changed. meanqueen-lifeaftermoney.blogspot.com/2024/11/remembering-old-rectory-at-claxby.html Read the comments from this post, there might be some more information there for you. If you go through my posts for this month, November, you will see six posts full of the most recent photo's I took. The Old Rectory is due to go to auction on the 12th of December. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/154667873?fbclid=IwY2xjawGYvyhleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHaWydUVZgafKTqLePwvDB3LIOUtH1gxsYoqsyj3sEXrvTfpUh6I3dPLiHg_aem_c7Rj5L1SIgyNxkwrtfXZkw#/?channel=RES_BUY
Totally agree Ilona, trust no one about your financials. Pretty fabric. Blessings to all ❤
Some very gullible people around !
sorry you just wouldnt di it hun but people do
My friend bought me one for Christmas a couple of years ago. When I opened it I though my goodness but I have to say I have worn it through 2 years of cold weather and it’s still going strong and will keep me cosy for at least another cold winter and hopefully still be ok.
Hi Mean Queen, brilliant, very good advice indeed! I couldn’t believe how silly she was either!🙄🙄🙄🥰🥰🥰
It's good that she went on National Radio and told her story.
The UK is cheeper than Spain is!!
In God we trust Ilona in man we have to be cautious have a great week .xx
Hello! Sweet Illona! This incident you described has been happening for the past years here in Greece. They do their scam business on elder citizens. They do their research thoroughly and one day they come into your door and they claim that your son or daughter is in trouble or is in the hospital and they have send him/her to pick some money! Or worst they phone people and pretend that they are relatives in distress especially pretending that they are involved in car accidents and they will send someone to pick some money! It is awful how many people got scammed especially the elderly that were afraid for their children! Somebody tried to scam my mother in law once, they called her pretending that was my husband asking for argent money, but we had already warned her about this whole ridiculous situation and she threatened them to call the police if they call her again talking nonsense! Because she recognise that the voice in the other side of the line wasn't her son's. People need to be very careful either young or old. Especially, nowadays that money is scarce to most of those shady people and they try to make money by scamming innocents. I always enjoy all your videos Illona! And you always have my thumbs up! Take care dear!
They can replicate a voice with AI so it's good, when family/friends are together in person, to agree on a code word or phrase to drop into any such conversation, should it need to occur.
This happened to my relative who is over 80. The scammers frightened her into catching a bus into town and going to her bank to withdraw a very large amount. Fortunately the cashier she dealt with at the bank noticed that she had her phone on and intervened before the money was withdrawn. She was left feeling quite shaken and vulnerable. Such evil people.
Yes, such scammers are wicked. Anyone who scams an elderly person has a special spot reserved for them in H_ll. Sometimes the scams are soo smooth...but best to go unto the branch or just end the call like Ilona does.❤
@@aoc092 Hundreds of branches are closing every week, leaving people with nowhere to speak to a human face to face. This is why they are pushing digital banking. This is the plan. Making people reliant on their hand held smart phones. I can get cash out of my Bank account at the post Office, with my debit card.
That's a shocking story. It's not just about the money stolen, it's about ruining someones self confidence if they make a mistake. Good that you were there to help her.
@@helenawalker2398 I hope that they catch the crooks and your poor relative has recovered 💕
I adore you sweety so inspirational xx
It so sad that people actually trust a complete stranger on the phone 😢. Your hair looks so good. Long hair really suits you ☺️
We all need to be cautious and aware of our financial decisions that we make Ilona. Here in Canada I fear eventually that they will force on us a cashless society on us. Some places refuse cash payments and we must use a credit or debit card! I too will not do any online banking or ordering purchases. Too many things could go wrong. Have a great day! 🌟
You talk common sense. Getting people hooked on carrying a mobile phone around with them is the first step to controlling their every movement. I don't get a credit card statement every month because I haven't got one. My monthly bank statement has minimum entries on it. Two long term direct debits, pensions coming in, cash withdrawals going out. Takes me seconds to check it. We have to hold the line and say NO.
That woman was crazy
It did seem like a crazy thing to do, but who knows how any of us would react when put under pressure. Look out for your neighbours and friends.
Hi I have been scam three then I was scam one was window cleaner then miss vjtwibell
Hi mean queen! Enjoy listening to you.
Your cute lovely lady this is such a great topic❤❤❤❤❤
Please everyone don't ever get complacent thinking you know what the scams are. There are new ones coming out all the time and if you have never heard of a particular scam you could get caught out.
People need to swap information. They need to talk about scamming. Not everybody has an analytic brain and believe everything they are told.
your bank or pension never call you.....
No, never. See reply to sjbutler.
