If in an emergency you land on a savage planet (like Earth) without enough fuel to take off, you can use the ejector system from this TWIN FAMICOM to go back to space.
It never fails to make me laugh whenever you slap or throw a game into or simply at the ports of the wrong consoles, LMAO. Gets me every time. More of that, please. Thanks for the fun reviews!
I have one. I use it with an adapter to play NES carts. I got an adapter/splitter thing that plugs into the ext plug, that lets me use US controllers. Weirdly, they only seem to work with some carts, even though all I have are US releases, currently. Also, just so you know, any US title that is two player and requires the second player to hit start, you're fresh out of luck, because the second player controller has no start or select button. Instead, it has a mic, which isn't as helpful. Most of the games I have that require that, won't work with US controllers on the machine, either. If you get one of these, be prepared to play games sitting very close to your TV. He wasn't kidding when he said those wires are short. The best way to play NES games, outside of an emulator, is an NES 2, I think, though I don't have one of those.
The NES-101 is pretty good for playing NES games from what I've observed, the only problem is that the video output is noticeably worse than the original model; an HDMI mod does seem to be able to fix this, though. Also, the NES wasn't designed to look like furniture because it was classy or stylish, it was designed to look like furniture so people wouldn't think of it as a game console, as the video game market experienced a major decline in the US just a couple years prior to the NES's North American release. Had the crash never happened, we probably would've gotten the Famicom as it was in Japan, though that's kinda a downside considering that the original Famicom only supports shitty RF video.
Better quality is always preferable, of course, but with graphics this primitive, I'm not too fussed if I don't get the absolute best picture quality. The Sharp Twin Famicom seems to have pretty good quality. I just wish they'd ditched the permanently wired controllers. I do use NES controllers via an adapter whenever possible, not least of all because I don't want to wear out the permanently wired ones, but also so I can use cable extenders and so on. The adapters seem about as rare as hen's teeth, though. I just happened to get one on amazon as it popped up, from Venezuela, of all places. They all seem to be made there. They're hard to find, but if you own this console, they're nice to have. They might also work with other Famicom versions, though I'm not sure.
this is quite possibly the coolest looking console i have ever seen. it looks like it was designed by the designers republic for a 90s scifi movie or something. those controllers are rad!
+Ruko Michiharu I've wanted that thing for 7 years now and from the few I've seen, not a single one has been even remotely reasonably priced. I'm sorry, but wasn't this thing POPULAR in it's day? the market makes it seems like they sold 5 copies of it that just keep ending up in the hands of the same jerk reseller.... it's like the TG16 in that everyone wants one and has probably heard about from all the games it has, but absolutely no one has one. Except Lukemorse. dude's repaired like 4 of them. wait a minute have I ranted about the availability/pricing of it in response to one of your comments before? I practically do that virtually every time someone brings it up...
***** Actually nope, It wasn't... The X68000 was a somewhat niche workstation even in its day in Japan, it wasn't nearly as niche as the Turbografx 16 in the west, but it was only really enjoyed by Japanese tech geeks and/or gamers who could wipe their arses with money... That said though, it is one of the ideal game systems to emulate since it's way too expensive to collect, has lots of great although not particularly common games, both arcade conversions and exclusives, and well, NONE of the devs who made games for the X68000 are making any money off of its games anymore and also aren't making the games available for purchase on other systems like Steam, Nintendo eShop or PSN... So yeah, with the X68000 is either pay out the arse for it or emulate it, and I chose the latter... And unlike CERTAIN other Japanese computers *CoughFMtownsCoughPC98Cough* finding floppy images for X68000 games isn't hard at all, in fact they're widely spread on many sites dedicated to emulation
+RetroMegabyte Oh I didn't think anyone else here watched those guys. In all honesty I never expected Mark to pick up one of these, let alone review it.
The AN-505BK had a different color scheme containing black, light blue, and surf green. It also had turbo added to the controllers and the hard wired cables for said controllers are longer. Source: I own one
I was either gonna get this or an AV Famicom. I went with the AV because it was cheaper, you can use most NES accessories with it, and the shipping on one of these Twins is a beast because it's almost as big as a VCR.
Reason why the wires for the controller's are short is because house space was really limited in Japan and there does exist an adapter to hook in NES controllers
Does any sharp twin owner know if its bad to run the machine in the us with the original power supply? I heard a rumor that the voltage or something is different in the us and that playing it could fry it. Thanks
+Supah Kent Famicom Disk System games had a higher data capacity than the usual cartridge games hence the use of floppy disks, some games such as LoZ which was originally on the FDS had additional audio fidelity but that was done on cartridge games as well. It's sorta like the Sega CD of the time without the CD audio or FMVs obviously.
ic light for me as well since it is what makes up the Allegheny river...buddy that is awesome I forgot the famicom had a disk system seems like they try to go that route in almost every console...love famicom nes love section z..I'm a go play some pinball quest now
Ice Ice Hockey Challenge. It's one of the Kunio Kun series of sports games. It was supposed to come here as the sequel to Crash N' the Boys. River City Ransom is in the series as well.
Hi, does this play games in normal speed? Because I have a famicom console here that plays the game but the music is slower than the original, apparently it's because of copyright reasons.
You can always buy one with a broken disk system and repair it. Its much cheaper and relatively easy to fix by replacing the belt. I have a video on my channel of my twin famicom after I fixed the drive belt.
I see which Famicom system I'm getting. Hell this might be my next retro system instead of getting the Saturn like I planned. Saturn will have to wait a bit.
The original big red monster is my fav. I have one too and if there was room in my bed for my wife and my neo-geo i would sleep with it, its not a 6 slot but its good enuff
+WebVMan Buy A Raspberry Pi, stick a USB SNES controller on it, and it can play every system you've mentioned other than DC, but it CAN play PS1. I actually have a pi 2 running with every SNES, NES, and GEN game ever made, alongside some 32x, ps1, and n64 games
I used to have a grayishbluishwhatever 500R and I seriously regret selling it. It's such a great machine. The eject button is excellent and the switches and all the things are just amazing. Still the only downfall is the built-in controllers but whatevs. He hit all the things perfectly. Made the regret even deeper and sharper. Also tip: if you look for one of these maybe find console5.com, they sell replacement drive belts.
This looks like an awesome console! However, if the disk drive ever does break, I would think that it would be a lot harder to open up and work on then a regular Famicom Disk System.
+David Halligan Not really, you just open the lid and everything is there to mess with. Very easy to fix and the only thing known to break is the drives rubber band. You can get those for a couple of dollars, even with no experience you are looking at an hour or two to sort.
Most are going for $150 on eBay so I wouldn't call them cheap. I'd also say that this is mostly a collector's item as the AV Famicom plus an Everdrive is more efficient if all you want to do is play the library of games.
I saw those on "super potato" earlier this year and they were not that expensive, then I thought: If I buy it, I will have to start a new collection of FDS games, so I passed. Should I be punished?
The included controllers are irrelevant because it has the auxiliary port just like the regular Famicom so you can plug in an aftermarket controller and a Neo Geo controller cord extension and play from the comfort of your couch with the console in your entertainment center.
That’s a gorgeous system, love it, why can’t they design stuff that looks like this anymore? I want tons of buttons of various sizes, shapes and colors smothered all over my brightly colored chunk of a game system! I tell ya, Apple ruined design for everyone. Oooo, white! Oooo, black! Oooo, plain slab! Come on, guys! I mean, yeah, the GameCube was square but at least it was purple and the controller looked edible. We need a game console design renaissance. Seriously.
When I've had a bad day CGR always brightens it up!
even all these years later me too, also i fucking love the crow!!
Never fails.🤘

I bought one of these after watching your review. Got it fairly cheaply from Japan. Love it. Thanks for the recommend!
Whoa, now that is one sexy piece of plastic!
+DreamcastGuy haha
You comment everywhere...
+DreamcastGuy You might even say it looks sharp.
"sharp" GET IT?! lololololololololol X OVER 9000

The only reason to get another color is for the joypads with rapid fire.

+SoftOtaku yeah but you could just buy a separate hori pad with a longer cable and rapid fire, and ditch the wired controllers.

I don't have friends, so that's not a big deal for me but yeah i could see your point.SoftOtaku
+common rider Nintendo, no friendo? Oh well, at least there's the Internet! Have a nice weekend!
The Sharp Twin Famicom is awesome, but you wanna know what's even better?

You should get that just for Chojin Sentai Jetman
Nice review there, very good video!
The eject mechanism makes it the FamiToaster!
Here's the real question... Does it play Truxton?
That console ejects cartridges like crazy!

20 years of gaming and I've never heard of this thing!
What happens if you hook up the famicom disk system data cart ( a cart with a wire going to the unit ) Into a twin Famicom ?
Universal Explosion
No, I think would act the same as a regular Famicom FDS
+Steven Ruff That's right. I have one for Fdsstick and it works fine.
That thing Sorta looks like an XBOX 360! U can tell by the disk drive on the left and the giant green button in the middle!
Try this on for size: Sharp TV with a built in Nintendo Entertainment System simply called Game TV. Gaming Historian did a very good piece on it.
it came out at the same time as the FDS

Will this tune in (since its av) on a PAL tv?
Build in game-pad?
Is that not 2 ports on the side to use your own?
Galaga sounds at 4:30!
Mind Blown!!
This machine is beautiful!

Is it a Megaview monitor?
what was the game at 4:33? i loved dodgeball on NES, im curious to this one!
what was this console called again?
and can I get it in red?

Does Mrs. Mark do reviews too?
I wonder if it's big and red...
i love famicom because its for the most part very cheap to collect for i have heard in japan you can get like 10 famicom games for 1000yen
Can the Famicom, even the Twin Famicom, can play NES games from the US?
I can just imagine if I owned that back then they'll be calling me a rich gamer.
I'm surprised you didn't mention that it's big and red.
If only we got this beauty in America in an NES version. If only we also got the Famicom disk system to lol.

I got the Black (dark grey?) one. I understand now that i should have bought the red one. What a shame.
Now all Mark needs is to review a SHARP Famicom Titler. Someone should buy one off Ebay for $1000+ and send it to him!
you forget to say that is big and red !
