Mike, if you wanted to have gravity to affect the bottle only at a certain frame I think you have to key the gravity of the nucleus at three separate times; once at the initial frame (gravity=0), then once before the gravity is supposed to be turned on (gravity still=0), and then finally at whatever frame you want gravity to turn on (gravity=9.8); that way Maya knows when to "turn on the gravity" while interpolating the rate of gravity/time correctly...I may be mistaken and there's probably an easier way!
Maya allows to automatically shatter an object without the Multicut tool... FX > Effects > Shatter. The Shatter function automatically generates a great shattering effect.
Great as usual Mike! I was just wondering if you could do, or if you have, a tutorial on how to get tracked footage from after effects into Maya with the bilt in tracker? Im having no luck finding out how to do so:(
I think if you make a set key at gravity 0.00 then again another set key for gravity set to 9.8 at frame 49 it should work. If you just create one set key it will use that value and disregard your old value that wasn't set. I'm still a student so i can't say for sure. Also could you use this technique for creating a blast hole though a wall by making the sphere not visible?
Thanks mike!!.. amazing tutorial!!.. im still learning and i dont know the difference between using this and using the bullet plugin... which one do you think is better?.. thanks!..
Mike Hermes yes sir! Of course! If you are able to that would be amazing! Maybe the tear could splatter on picture frame because the person cried looking at it?
Mike sir Which computer or CPU do you use Coz mine hangs alot so I am planning to buy one. It would be a great help if you suggest me which one I should buy ?
Try to get an Intel I7 CPU with at least 16GB RAM and if you can a 2 ( 4 is better ) GB NVIDIA video card. Anything higher then that is great if you can afford it
Hell, I was wondering if you could do a vid on taking all the faces of a model and importing them in to a 2D program such as photoshop and then coloring the faces then putting them back on the model. Sorry if not very clear new to English. Not sure how to explain.
I have a question, why use ncloth over the Shatter effect? I'm finding that ncloth is definitely less buggy, however, the shatter effect fills the polygons, giving thickness and weight to the material. Is there a way to do that with ncloth? If so I'd like to know. Because the shatter effect is really testing my patience. It keeps crashing my scene.
I see. Do you have a preference? Is one better over the other? I'm not questioning your expertise, just trying to figure which one works best. Although I guess it depends on the situation.
@@MHTutorials3D But that would still look like something hit it. I want something more abstract looking like this ruclips.net/video/FeIZLFOyq7c/видео.html or this ruclips.net/video/CMWsrGefqKE/видео.html
Hello Sir, I was trying this in maya 2018. If I press play button then it hangs a lot . And can’t see changes in bottle. I have a high GPU even though it lags a lot . What can be the reason. Poly count is same as urs. Can you please suggest some methods how can I fix it. Thank You.
Ya, even animation preference is set to play every frame. Still it lags. Is there any way to make maya use the maximum CPU and GPU for good performance?.... In maya - “windows > settings/ preference > preference tab”. There is a thing called “ GPU cache” can it be used in any way to improve performance?
Mike, I have a suggestion for a tutorial. How about specifically showing people the edge flow of a low-to-high poly transition within a mesh for extra-complex models where we need both low and high poly sections within the same mesh. Here is an example image... i65.tinypic.com/2ai0igi.jpg -We add four polygons where we would have had one. -It's especially good for meshes which are combined organic AND hard-surface in the same mesh. -It allows us to sculpt a section of a mesh, while leaving the rest of the mesh as low-poly. -It's a way to keep the poly-count low for gaming models, while still being able to get a good silhouette where we need it. -It helps people to better understand edge-flow and edge-redirection techniques. -It helps people to understand how to get rid of triangles in a mesh. Also - could you please let me know if you have a better way of achieving the same thing, because with this method we would have to manually re-direct some of the new edges that are potentially added in later on. Cheers.
where do you get the mental ray textures, I tried typing the mia for the texture and couldn't find anything. is there a repository of textures somewhere? I do have Bryce 7 but I don't know if any of the pro materials from that are compatible either.
What Maya version ? ( Maya 2017 does not have Mental Ray anymore unless you download it from www.nvidia.com ) If you have an earlier version, let me know

You are right, thank you
Haa yeah just found it and was gonna comment about it Thanks anyway

Idk if u know how to fix it but i cant get an ncloth to be created on it when i do that
The thumbnail is looking so satisfying.
Hi you should firstly set a 0 gravity at frame 34 then set a 9.8 gravity at frame 35 :)
Yes, I was told but thank you for sharing !
you are an angel, thank you so much!!
dude your tutorials are amazing im learning so much, don't stop! Can you make a tutorial on things burning from fire?
Thank you, I will add it to the request list !
Great Tutorial! I like all of your videos - thank you so much!!!
Thank you
mike if you using ncache it gone make you fast on playing it very easy bro😌
5:52 create ncloth
7:49 gravity 0
"Sorry this is taking so long."
Um, so edit the video?
just just watch it on 2X people need to understand speedboi
Great as usual Mike! I was just wondering if you could do, or if you have, a tutorial on how to get tracked footage from after effects into Maya with the bilt in tracker? Im having no luck finding out how to do so:(
Not yet, but I am planning too ( on my other channel MH Tutorials 2 )
That was quick, Mike. I'm pretty sure the guy only requested it yesterday.
Sometimes requests align with what I was planning :-)
I was wondering where to start learning on your channel since you have so much videos?
What software are you using ?
Maya 2015/2017,3ds max 2017,and substance painter
is it possible to do a shatter effect without actually having another object smash into it? as in the main model shatters on its own?

You are right and as for the blast hole, you could
Thanks mike!!.. amazing tutorial!!.. im still learning and i dont know the difference between using this and using the bullet plugin... which one do you think is better?.. thanks!..
Not better or worse, just different ( with a slight preference for bullet )
can you make one like this video with bullet or does it exist already?
wow this is kind of tutorial I enjoy a lot!
You are very welcome
Mike Hernes, Can you please show us how to model a tear drop splattered on a surface? Maybe on a counter top or a table?
Cameraon, that would not be a model but a dynamic simulation... Is that ok ?
Mike Hermes yes sir! Of course! If you are able to that would be amazing! Maybe the tear could splatter on picture frame because the person cried looking at it?
:-) I will see what I can do
xcpflusherzx and im sure it can be replecated en masse for rain striking the ground
Not good with rain haha
Hi Mike, could you please make a video on rendering video with Mental Ray?
I have made many, many videos on rendering with Mental Ray. Please check my playlists

Thanks man awesome
This was amazing, but that scattered particles isn't coming down, can u pls make a tutorial on that.
increase gravity and direction it
i love ur tuto keep up
Thank you

I have actually done this many time. Check my texturing tutorials

Ronnie, I did it because it was a request. Both methods work
I see. Do you have a preference? Is one better over the other? I'm not questioning your expertise, just trying to figure which one works best. Although I guess it depends on the situation.
To be honest ( because I do a lot of tutorials ) I do whatever method is requested. It is good to know both
can you manually shatter an object without interaction with objects, then make them float around like particles?
Yes, make the wrecking ball invisible and then turn off gravity so the parts will float

good job
Thank you
I still have the wine file. The first video i watched was that wine video xD.
Good
Thank you sir!

Rendering is done by the CPU for the most part
Hey Mike can you show us how to explode water ball in Maya?
To what ?
I have to make a sphere explode as water and fall down on the ground to form as puddle.
Why i can't break it down, instead,it changed shape?
Mike, I have a suggestion for a tutorial.

Sounds cool. I actually did this in the water bottle tutorial. Have you seen it ?
No, I haven't seen it. I'll dig it up and check it out. Thanks.

Mike Hermes 17. but with that i still have issues beacuse arnold didnt install properly and i dont know how to get it now
You will have to reinstall Maya ( or check the plugin manager to see if MtoA.mll is loaded
thank a lot
You are welcome
From where u learn all this??
Study, study, study
Nice video Mike, wanted to tell you that your name rhyms with bike.
I know you are laughing. Stop laughing.
ROTFL
isn't there any better way to fracture the objects in maya?
There are multiple way, but not better or worse, just different
bravo
:-)
Jst awesome
Thanks
In Maya 2014 what is the name of multi cut tool?
