Well that's a good point; it really depends on how you define "genius." I guess my point is that the brain has limited resources so perhaps narrowing one's area of concentration allows for greater accomplishments.
The idea of just finding someone cool and saying "hey, you wanna have some kids?" is really appealing to me. I wish I could find someone cool like that.
I'm pretty sure I had some kind of mild autism when i was younger... had to learn social cues via deduction and logic instead of it coming naturally. A lot of my friends describe similar attributes. It makes me feel like the whole concept of autism is either overblown or misunderstood. But yeah... some of that behavior just gets hammered out over time by interacting with people.
I can agree with the whole narrowing focus to get good at a perticular subject thing. It makes me think of it in terms of a magnifying glass (as the brain) when placed direct sunlight (the knowledge/inspiration)...the more the lens focuses the sun ray, the hotter the beam gets to produce results...same thing as concentrating on one goal...lol nice vid, very though provoking as always. My best to you from Canada! :)
Have you ever created something great while really forcing it? I guess the tricky part is to focus on something while still enjoying the free flow of creativity and creative juice. I suffer from being enticed by too many things. It seems that the naturally occuring focus that comes from enticement is what brings the breakthroughs "Let it flow" baby
Never thought I'd see a philosophical video about Judit Polgar! I'd heard that Lazlo wanted to prove the 'nurture' side of prodigies, but i didn't realize how explicit/active his involvement was in making his children part of the experiment. Normally, i'd think that having such motives would be morally problematic, but the Polgar sisters seem to have turned out alright.
If you write code the way it really should be done, you are a code artist. The line that some people try to draw between art and craft is an artificial and almost meaningless discrimination. There is actually a continuum between technique and expressive intent, and whether you are trying to share a vision you've seen or a feeling, or to find and clarify a pattern in a bunch of numbers, your activity is creative when you do it well.
Kind of reminds me of the 10,000 hour rule from the book "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell. He describes some examples of successful individuals who had spent around 10,000 hours sharpening a skill.
You seem very optimistic. That trait almost seems to run counter to today's popular conception of intelligence, i.e. the scientist, the skeptic, even the cynic. It's very nice :)
Yes and no.. haha. That kind of focus, to me, is like looking at really tiny sliver of a depth of field. Like one of those magic eye illusions. You have to have a relaxed concentration. i
Sure, I'd be interested in it, although I did the exam this morning, free-spirit never came up; got prejudice of philosophers instead. I have now finished my A levels! :D
Intps can say they are good at something because we know how to objectively judge our work amongst the rest. :) And painting, being right into it, is called FLOW,
I'd say that focus, repetition and dedication build skill, there's something to be said about the state of Flow being kind of mindless and effortless. That's the trick, focusing while enjoying and creating. I bet most of your best stuff came out of a specific state you were in, get back there and see how the good stuff just comes.
your voice/music is seriously talented. Have record managers approached you or have you tried to submit you work to talent scouts? I haven't heard from you in awhile, I thought for sure you were producing music.
I walked past the Polgar chess studio in Forest Hills, NY every day from 2006-2009. I think balance is sort of overrated. Obsession/fanaticism produces greatness. And my name is pronounced 'eden.' I kinda perked when you said "Meet eden."
im an intp too! and a musician as well, i remember the day when i found my sound. hope u'll find yours, when you do, you'll know it. its funny, i see your videos like 'piece of my heart', and 'video games', i remember my days when i was exploring like that. one day would be really chill music, the next day, really energetic rocking music. just stick with it, you'll narrow down eventually. although i'm sure you already know that ahha.
You should definitely make it a point to understand your secondary and tertiary functions. I'm INTJ, and have been familiarizing myself the description provided by Carl Jung. Also, continue to be creative, as introverts do quite well on the creative front. Be well!
existentialistcat, do you have ADD ? I am an INTP with ADD and I've read INTP's are most likely to have ADD. That's probably not true, but I'm just curious. :P
...work toward being significant - and the success will naturally follow… If you do work that you love, and work that fulfills you, the rest will come. And, I truly believe, that the reason I’ve been able to be so financially successful is because my focus has never, ever for one minute been money. Would you do your job and not be paid for it? I would do this job, and take on a second job just to make ends meet if nobody paid me. That’s how you know you are doing the right thing.” - Oprah

"fancy ladies" good choice of words.
You have the talent, and the will, and as an INTP you can see the possibilities. Attain mastery, and have fun doing it.
Also that dog is adorable.

I'm well impressed, you are a multi-talented lady, aren't you?;)

Woah, that is really interesting.

well my style's changed a lot since then but one of my first videos shows some of it. :)
Got an exam on Nietzsche tomorrow; gonna' use Polgar as a criticism on Nietzsche's criteria for the new philosopher being a broad background ;D
What`s the name of the background music ? Sounds great!.
"You know, I guess, maybe..." Yeah, INTP.
im an intp too! and a musician as well, i remember the day when i found my sound. hope u'll find yours, when you do, you'll know it. its funny, i see your videos like 'piece of my heart', and 'video games', i remember my days when i was exploring like that. one day would be really chill music, the next day, really energetic rocking music. just stick with it, you'll narrow down eventually. although i'm sure you already know that ahha.

"Fancy Ladies" hah!
Yeah, Im a jack of all trades too and really just need to focus on something lol, Im also an INTP.
you're a FANCY LADY !
Oh and funny to see the common INTP trait of not wanting to give yourself to much credit :P hehe.
that borderline autism you mentioned in those sorts of contexts is something i'd consider a virtue.
Yes, the instrumental for "Daniel." :)
what part of the country do you live in? do you ever have youtube meetups?
(:^o I think I hear a remix version of BFL *Daniel* in the background!
O HAI! ^.^
agreed.

my name's pronounced 'eden'. i take that as a sign. :)
too bad chess is a broken game of memorization now... used to be a amazing game of wits but opening theory killed it
PRIMERO!
how does it feel to have 1000's of "virtual " boyfriends ?
INTP ?
I don't think being good ( or even world class) at chest makes a you a genius by default.
