They're too expensive to be cost-effective against most other warships in practical gameplay. Also, most water matches are already over by Imperial Age. Fire Ships counter Dromons very cost-effectively even if they lose in this test.
They're expensive, with a very slow projectile, and move slower than any other ship. They are quite literally an Onager on the sea. Anyone familiar with onagers in any situation will tell you that they are the ultimate unstoppable unit, if you just stand there and take if to the face, but if you just move when they fire, it's pretty easy to beat them. Same thing applies here. Micro your units, and they'll be far less effective. They lost to demolition ships too. You don't even need heavy demos. That's a counter unit that all but 1 other civ has in it's pocket.

Staggered Formation counters them. Dromons aren't cost effective alone but when mixed with Galleons they are good. Use them like Onagers on water, don't send them alone, escort them.
Since the Deomon is supposed to be an alternative CG for those late antiquity civs I wonder what would be a unique alternative to the hand cannonier, and bombard cannon?

Dromon total cost: 175w + 150g = 325 Galley - Line costs: 90w + 30g = 120 So in a 20 vs 20 fight you field 6500 ressources vs 2400 ressources. With the same ressources scouts overpower spearmen. So no, this video does not represent anything in terms of matchup balance and counters. The Dromon does not win against fireships cost-effective and even against galleys they will lose. However, in difference to cannongalleons, depending on splash they do actually have a higher dps-output against ships than 2-3 galleys would do. Since 2-3 galleys are a lot tankier, you propably shouldn't just spam dromon, but a few behind your galley-line could be an great addition.
"With the same ressources scouts overpower spearmen" Unless you are talking about eagle scout, no they don't. Spearmen destroy scouts in both equal numbers and equal resource matchups.
