Stephanie Buttermore we love you more than ever! You are setting an incredible example and I wish more fitness professionals would cut the bull and be honest about starving themselves! I was anorexic for 2 decades, so I knew how much it sucks to have a dysfunctional relationship with food and a fucked up body image. Keep going! You can do this, and we are cheering you on all the way! Do not be scared, it will all balance out.

I‘m not really „hungry“, it‘s more of a craving that can not be calmed. After every meal, before every meal and even during I just think about food, when I will be able to eat the next time etc. People say „trust your body“, „feed these cravings and then it‘ll be gone“, but it never did. That‘s why I don‘t trust my body, that‘s why I count my calories and that‘s why I developed Anorexia and Orthorexia.

@@mariahb1817 I know what you mean.. It wasn't only increased energy for me, but also increased motivation to move. (Well it could be also described as a feeling of obligation) Once I started to eat more I just felt so tired and drained. So many negative aspects (which over time disappeared as my body just had to get used to the healthy amount of food) really tied me down on my eating disorder and scared me to go further in recovery.. But it is worth it and now I no longer look scary, but many compliment me for my toned and finally curvy body! You got this and I believe in you!!

This comment made me feel even more motivated to stick to my doctors plan...
If you don't mind, I would like to share my story with someone.
I developed an eating disorder when I was entering HS (my profile picture is my last picture before I decided to lose weight and get fit -I was never overweight, just thought I wasn't pretty enough). After 3 months, I had lost over 20 kgs (no idea how much that is in pounds) and then one day I fainted while walking to my biology class. I thought I was just dehydrated, but I was hospitalized for months since my heartbeat was dangerously irregular and my weight extremely low. For the past 10 years I've been dealing with extreme hunger since I recovered from anorexia, but I won't allow myself to eat more than what I should even tho I am hungry ALL THE TIME. I am scared to gain weight, but maybe going All In will be the only thing that will make me free once and for all

Wow, I just can't emphasize it enough, THIS is quality content. I love your scientific approach on all your videos but I also deeply appreciate that you let us see you in a very vulnerable place. I went through this same situation from 2012 to 2016 and it was so rough. But the thing that was most difficult is that I felt like I was the only person in the world going through it. I was very involved in fitness and I feel like the knowledge damned me and saved me at the same time. I couldn't make any food choices in peace because I knew too much, but I also was aware that I was in a bad place and that things needed to change. I also didn't know that there was help for this or even a name because I've never heard anyone talking about it while I was on my healing process. I deeply appreciate you posting this because even after many years in recovery I sometimes judge myself. Thank you. Big hug and my most sincere support on your journey.

I don't weigh myself but I think I finally reached my set point. I am not completely out of extreme hunger but it is getting better and better. Eating industrial sugars is still a no go for me (at least not on a daily basis) and I am more into clean eating than eating a 100% intuitively but it's okay for the moment. I am able to do exceptions again and to enjoy food! A vegan diet is a very helpful way to me to feel comfortable cause I am doing something good for the animals and the planet. This motivates me and makes me feel happy with myself and my decisions. Also, my diet allows me to eat very big amounts until I am really satisfied without feeling bad about it. It just works out for me. Maybe you find happiness in other ways of eating. Good look, beautiful people out there.

I know this video is really old but I just wanna put this out there for people who are watching it late like me: I think I unknowingly went all in a while ago. For a very long time up until the summer/early fall of last year all I thought about was food. It controlled my entire day and when I had any spare moment to myself I filled that with thinking of my next meal, where would I eat, what should I eat, how much? And I would restrict and binge and restrict and binge and I was ALWAYS hungry because I'm 4'10" and society and people around me told me I should be able to live comfortably on 1200 calories or maybe even less a day. I was never not hungry. And then in the early fall of 2018 I hit a breaking point with my depression and anxiety and I realized that nothing that I did that I considered fun and for myself made me happy. So I quit the club I was in and I almost never went to class and I didn't socialize. I completely gave up. 100% gave no more poops. And I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. The difference between Stephanie and me is that I don't cook or buy groceries very well and I hate veggies 😅 so I only ate fast food or microwavable food. I gained around 60-70lbs from October to the end of the year. And I experienced the, I wore this a week, a month, two months, whatever ago and now it doesn't fit and I HATED myself even more than I did before. The other difference between me and Stephanie is that I haven't reintroduced working out fully back into my life yet and a year has passed. I'm planning on making it a priority in 2020 because I now realize that this is a normal and probably good thing for me. That eventually if I work towards it I will reach my set point and be happy. Both through physical and MENTAL work. Don't worry guys, we can do this.

I was holding back tears when you mentioned having to buy new clothing.
Ive struggled with body image issues the majority of my life and I used to OBSESS about food/working out. Over the past few months I’ve tried to reassess my relationship with food/exercise and have opted to do what makes me feel best, meaning I’m eating more food (still struggling with guilt on that end) and only doing moderate exercise. I’ve gained weight and I’ve started to notice that the majority of my clothes don’t fit anymore, sometimes if I think too much about it it really upsets me. But I keep coming back to these videos to remind myself I’m not the only one struggling with this and it helps get me through the tougher days.
Thank you for the inspiration and for exhibiting such strength (and vulnerability). Wishing you all the best in your journey!!! ❤️

It’s so heartbreaking seeing how sad you were in that slightly too small swim suit, but thank you for showing. Thank you for sharing, watching you really helps my relationship with food as well ❤️❤️

This is really interesting from an experimental perspective. For me, if I were to eat entirely whatever I wanted, with no regard to it's composition or nutrient density, for sure I would become obese. But you train so much that you might just find a happy medium.
Honestly though I think like most things the truth is somewhere between these two extremes. And yes, you're gorgeous either way.
Edit: I want to add that where you are at, at the time of this video is aesthetically amazing. I guess what I'm saying is I can see this idea potentially work, BUT, donuts and Oreos are where I become a skeptic. But it's a skeptic with love, only offering a counter-viewpoint because I really believe cutting out sugar is important, and conventional thinking of course plays a role here too. I try to have a sweet treat like once a week. And generally eat heavyish on training days/ try to fast casually or just with a tiny bit of effort. Idk I'm always pretty comfortable.

I love this!! Just proof that staying shreddy all the time is, in the long run, not realistic unless you're willing to make MAJOR sacrifices in your mood, happiness, energy level, and social freedoms like going out to eat with family or have drinks with friends. All sacrifices which can make a person miserable if extended for longer than maybe a couple weeks at a time. My bf is a competitive bodybuilder and is, truthfully (and sadly), kind of a nightmare when he's deep in the doldrums of show prep/keto/calorie restriction. He does this for about 4-6 months when he's doing a show. And he's like a different person. I always tell him it's like he turned the dial down on his personality from a 25 to about a 7. Very tired, irritable, and essentially emotionless for months. It's difficult as hell on our relationship, but I support him and will very much love him no matter what. I'm always grateful when he decides to take a year or two break from competing. It's like I get the full version of him back :)

To me, this process looks like an ED recovery process. Really similar to what I went through during recovery from compulsive/excessive exercising and restrictive eating. The re-feeding consisted of A LOT of calories a day under the supervision of a program (I was at an in-patient program because I couldn't do it myself). Now, I am able to eat intuitively and am satisfied at around 2000 calories a day. When I was in the re-feeding phase, I probably ate like 5-6000 calories and felt like I could still eat more. Not trying to label anything but I think Stephanie was dieting to the point where her body physically went into a state similar to what ED patients have. That's why she never feels satiated even with so many calories! So happy to see you go on this journey. You are crushing it. The other side is so much more beautiful!!

I was anorexic very recently and gained 15kg (33lbs) 7 months. This is the heaviest I've been (53kg I'm 152 cm) and some people think I'm fat but this is the happiest and most energetic I've been in years. I'm an athlete so this had given me even more motivation to set more challenging goals. It's so nice to see other girls out there that has gone through what I did.
Update from May 2020: my weight is still climbing and it's near 57kg now. Honestly scaring the shit out of me because I just keep outgrowing clothes and gaining a lot of fat. I think my long term hormone medication is screwing with my body. My athletic performance took a dip too and I'm always frustrated with myself. Anyone been through this too?

Yeah, it's not about weight or size, it's about what makes you feel better! It can be hard, but getting enough of what you need is important! It can be hard to deal with, especially when your favourite pants don't fit, which is what got me down a bit, but clothes can be replaced, and don't matter much. I've always had issues finding clothes, so nothing new for me. I still don't have a lot of energy due to chronic pain, but I'm getting somewhere, and mood helps a lot.
