- The founder of the settlement that became Delaware County in the colony that became Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a very large man. He may have been the fattest man in America at that time. Check out this forgotten part of Philadelphia history.
The Swedish Cabin on the Darby creek is said to be the oldest, we go trout fishing there. It's a cool Cabin.
@@johnhuffnagle6097 one of my favorite spots too. Didn't know there are trout in that stream. I like to fish also... very cool thanks for the idea
Very interesting never really thought about the connection. I drove through and past Swedesboro Nothnagle log house and have never stopped to see it. Hope you can jump the Delaware and visit for us.
THANK YOU, Sean, for covering this chapter in PA/Delaware Area/Lenapehocking history!!! Printz was kinda dikkish to the Minqua (Susquehannock) and Lenape, but overall, the rest of the Swedish, and especially Finnish, immigrants got along pretty well with the First Nations community. Swedes/Finns (and a few working class Dutch) actually “married in” to the True Local People. Finns brought log cabin tech to 🇺🇸. Swedes brought Finns! ;)
@@robfritz841 you are right. I will highlight this in future videos about the Swedes, Finns, and Dutch.
Peter Minuit died on his way back from New Sweden in a hurricane off St. Kitts (St. Christopher in old terms), but his ship, Kslmar Nykel survived and got back to Sweden and made several more resupply runs. Lenape called him “Big Belly”!
There is an old swedish log cabin in delco. Down the end of an old trail that follows Darby crick a block past the old kmart on baltimore pike. Built in 1640 and is a candidate for oldest surviving cabin in America. Some guy built a house right next to it lol.
@@frankrizzo7454 oh great suggestion! I went there once. It was kinda sketchy tbh. Needles and trash everywhere. But I hear it's been cleaned up so maybe I'll do a video on it soon. I'll add it to the list - thanks!
@@solguud It's a family friendly bike/walk path now. Just built a bridge over the crick. Not sketchy at all. Maintained as part of the Kent Doggie Park
@frankrizzo7454 that's great to hear!
Im tuned in bro very interesting stuff
Thanks!
@ also I’ve seen the jump in subs dude you got something really cool going for your channel dope !!
@@Wanderxsocietythanks it's getting interesting for sure!
Haven't been there in a while. Great video.
@@runningintohistory thank you 🙏
Hey man, nice, interesting DELCO videos. Enjoy watching them. But, your camera is inverted. The NFL shirt logo is inside out so the perspective of the video is off and very confusing. But thank you again for the history lesson and keep it going man!
@@mmaguiremichael I do no editing whatsoever. Might start a little editing soon. I'll correct that if I do
Love your channel. Peter Minuit's name has mostly commonly been pronounced as Min/wee. Petrus Stuyvesant's name is pronounced Sty/va/sint.
@@johnnyscarecrow71 thank you !
Perhaps you can slide over to South Jersey for some history at some point? :) Perhaps the Batsto Village? Iron Ore production in the Pine Barrons. Just a thought... :)
@@HandyManMike love Batsto. I'll add it to the list
I LOVE your videos! 😊
@@PeterKardas thanks!
Deffinetly sounded like gunshots 😳😳😳
Right? I'm thinking nailgun though
Wait can you check something. Go to 15:54. I hear a little zip sound after the shot. Do you hear that? After every shot there's a zip sound... was I being shot at?...
I heard it in part of the video
It sounds like you were being shot at.
@@MichellePaxson turns out the yatch club nextdoor does trap shooting over the water on Sundays.
I was just there couple weeks ago, very cool
Interesting stuff!
Lots of History in Printz Park. Original Home of the Stromboli right up the road. But, ya, Governor Printz Park, Tinicum, Delaware County.
@@dsanderella for real? What at??!!
Romanos, Wannamaker and 3rd 👍
Black Anthony was the Swedish-brought slave. His tobacconist capabilities essentially freed him over time
I live a block away for the last 25 years. The Lazar Reto house is a lot more interesting right there
I'm a desendent of jorhan kyjn translate to George keen he came with the governor he settled in chester and it was called upland,he is my 9xss grandfather
@@bernadettecheng6049 hello and thank you for your support. What an incredible legacy you have. I hope my videos do justice to your family and your ancestor. All the best.
That's so cool.
PLEASE make one of Karakung Drive in Havertown!
There’s a park technically called “Powder Mill Valley Park”…
There resides the ancient “Lawrence Cabin” and “Nitre Hall”
It’s extremely beautiful with Fox and deer late at night
But I’m guessing it has a jaded history - one can SENSE it
And it’s Extremely Old!
Very much in line with your current videos ❤

@@PeterKardas looks great! I'll add it to my list. Thanks for the tip !
Not sure if you are aware, but there is a Christiana, Delaware. I didn't know that she was a Swedish Queen.
The Mummers Parade were supposedly started by the Swedish.
I wanna live in one of those log cabins.
@LarryDanaDavid same
Peter Minuit! Was a Huegonot (French Protestant)) and Minuit translates to midnight. Pronounced “min-wee”
My ancestors!! Joran Kyn from Sweden.
The swedes were peaceful and they got along with the indians
@@bernadettecheng6049 I'm not sure about that. I think the reality is that, in comparison to the English, who were truly evil, the swedes seemed peaceful. But i think there are quite a few instances of conflict between the swedes and lenape. I'd like to learn more about this though.
You're hearing a pile driver
@@patrick383ironworker turns out the yatch club next to the park does trap shooting sometimes.
Do you have an email ? I would like to ask you some questions if you are familiar with the area. My ancestry goes back to there.
The swede settled in new jersey to along the river
Ever showing the pollution in this area? Lmao
@@TheTurtleneck64 right? might do a video on the superfund site on Darby creek.
Why da "lmao" ? Pollution is "laughable" ????
@@dsanderella Cus who actually covers that topic? I know people in Havertown who don't even know how bad their water situation is
