  • In this video I review a 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer which is the 2nd generation model that was all new for 2003 and sold through 2006. This review includes a look at the Expedition, interior overview, technical specs and a test drive.

    This is the best of the big trucks/SUVs that came out that year. Highly recommended, but it is absolutely critical to get maintenance done on a regular basis or you will have expensive problems. If you are looking at a used one, be sure you have a mechanic check it out thoroughly pre-purchase. Note that the rocker panels (in between doors and running boards) are frequently prone to rust and can be overlooked. They can be replaced with stainless steel (mine were when they rusted) , but it will cost money and should be factored in to the cost of the vehicle. Good review.

    I have a 2004 EB, the only thing it's lacking is Bluetooth which is easily accessible other than that it got everything you need in today's world, it was ahead of its time, I also had a 1999 and you definitely can tell the difference in old steering gearbox and the upgraded rack and pinion steering which handles much better

    This was the best generation of the Expedition… even in todays standards… and the EB edition was even more reliable than the Chevy Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado, and Avalanche of the same generation… as long as you get the 4.6 Engine… the 5.4 had a few spark plug issues with this generation… has only 164,000 miles.

    • @HAL-dm1eh
      @HAL-dm1eh 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@monicagross5131 05-14 Ford started putting in the 5.4 3v Triton engine in both the Expedition and Navigator. I highly suggest you do religious maintenance on that engine, change that oil and filter every 5K miles with 5w30 or 40.
      They had issues with sludge, cam phasers, followers and tensioners, all because Ford needed to make the oil holes larger in the heads.
      If you ever get valve work done (hopefully not), make sure it's with Ford parts and a heavy duty oil pump.

      I bought an ‘04 Expedition XLT Sport with the 5.4L V8 this past October for $6,500. It had 127,000 on it when I bought and it was nearly FLAWLESS on the interior with no rips in the leather at all. I LOVE THIS TRUCK!! It already had the spark plugs replaced with the upgraded plugs and it was owned by 2 previous owners including it being a fleet truck. I think overall I got a good deal all things considered. It’s 20 years old and doesn’t have many frills but that’s JUST FINE WITH ME!! It’s OLD AND RELIABLE JUST LIKE ME

    I firmly believe that this is the best generation Ford Expedition ever. Looks so much better outside up front than the 2007s and up, with the smoother flowing lines and nicer looking hood. Also, once they were equipped with the turbocharged v6 engines, they were plagued with leaks and a lot of new issues along with the F-150s. Fit and finish were at their peak during this generation as well. And the light-weight aluminum 4.6 V8 made the front feel much lighter, contributing to better handling. The 4.6 was easily suped up with many aftermarket or OEM parts from Mustang GTs. And with dual exhaust added made the 4.6 equipped Expedition very nice.

    Definitely a great built vehicle, just too bad they didn't make the dash and panels soft touch like models of old and like they are now doing. These days were the days of cheap hard plastics and unfortunately this model is loaded with it. Some might not care but for almost a $50k vehicle from this era they certainly could have offered better quality in this department. The engine choices are questionable too. A bigger 6.2 could have been used as a upper level option especially in the Lincoln. But again this is if you want everything for a $50 vehicle and for that price in that time that's not a far reach. I own a 2011 and it has 250k miles with little to no issues. Would highly recommend and would like to see if a enthusiast will put the 6.2 or 5.0 to see how it would be if it had it from the factory. Maybe when mine kicks the bucket I'll try to see if the 5.0 can be put in a 2011 Expedition. That will be sweet with 400 hp and 411 of torque mated to the 6 speed. We'll see if it can be done and if its worth the price. Ford should bring back the V8 at least as an option like the F-150's. Shouldn't be hard they are made in the same facility. I guess Ford loves to live on the mantra, if they want 10 give them 7.

    I have a 3rd Gen (2003) Explorer with the 4.6L 2 valve V8. I’m 99% certain they’re the exact same tail lights, but not 100% sure. The internet has been no help. Anyone know? Maybe they’re same tail lights, but different mounts? I’m just wildly curious. I thought they had the same headlights too, but the side markers and headlights are separate pieces on Explorer, but it’s one piece on Expedition, and the side markers are slightly different design and I’m pretty sure the low and high beam housing is closer together on Explorer.

      As someone who used a 1997 and a 2001 Expedition, both with the 5.4L V8 to tow our 5,000lbs horse trailer I disagree hard. The handling of the first generation was awful, and kinda scary with a trailer. They floated and were very tippy, the brakes were underpowered (yes had a trailer brake controller, but was still unstable) and they were gutless. I test drove a couple second gens ( no trailer) and the driving dynamics are night and day better. I however ended up getting a 2004 Hummer H2 which tows much more like my 2007 F250 super duty (just slower) and less like the first gen Expeditions. The only benefit to the first gen is the steel bumpers for offroading.
