- What will the world be like in twenty years time? People on the streets of Dublin look ahead.
On the eve of a new decade Dubliners describing how they see the world in twenty years.
We leave you with your own view of what’s going to happen in the next twenty years.
Space travel, technology, robots, computers, work patterns and war are all subjects which feature strongly in people’s vision for the future.
I would hope that we’ll all have our feet still firmly planted on the ground. It’s all in God’s hands of course.
It’ll be all space age cars.
I don’t think there’ll be all that many changes in twenty years’ time.
There’ll be a lot more unemployment and there’ll be a lot more violence.
For the youth of this world, I think they should get together and say no more war.
‘Year In’ was broadcast on 31 December 1979. The presenter is Pat Kenny.
“Ireland’s going to be like America” spot on.
Yes, that’s happened but more like slaves to globalization. Ironically the prime minister is a homosexual Indian. What can go wrong from here?
Have a good day
How so?
Exactly
Dear God no
To everyone: no it wasn't all better back then and it's not all better now. Just be thankful you wake up each day. Do what you can with what you have and try leave the place in a better state than when you arrived.
I feel like the fella at 1:16 time travelled back to 1979. It's the only reasonable explanation for why he's so depressed
He is/was a very smart, educated guy for sure.
Bless that guy, I was willing Father Ted to play Shaft so see him crack a smile!
As a good friend of mine often jokes, "If you are happy then you are not paying attention!"
This guy in the video clearly knew too much... Maybe just as you suggest, he had rolling 24hr news on a smartphone in his pocket?
Here's to blissful ignorance! 👍😊🌞
Let's hope 2022 will be a better year, for us all! Cheers everyone🥂🎉🎈✨
A war
No there's a war lol
Woops a daisy🤭so there is....darn. I wanted love & peace, not war. Moving swiftly on.....😂
@@TheBenzer9 this aged like milk
Let's not even think about 2023!!!
Wow, these people were so much smarter and switched on back then compared to the majority of the Irish public now.
ya but did they know there was 83 genders
33+ years overdue for a revolution, feels about right
Honestly i would rather go back to 1979 then put up with the shit that's going on now and i doubt 2022 is going to be any better.
I remember the stories my dad told me about the 70s. Wasn't a great place for many Irish back then. We're definitely more comfortable. Life is shit in any era.
👍👍👍
@Space Dolphin Brigada The big corporations and corrupt Governments are taking over, we are all becoming minorities in our own Countries,

It's getting more like China. This ain't no land of the free.

"The permissive cycle is going to come around and we're going to become very unpermissive."
Sadly, no.
I always felt that the corruption in our political system was only going to get worse and Tah-da! Here we are today in 2022 with possibly the worst government in the history of the state.
Ireland is not Ireland anymore, that's for sure, it's population is exploding, and it cannot support 5/6 million people, or more, the island and it's resources, of which land is one, will simply not be able to cope...they have to apply common sense to it's immigration policies, the Irish went to England/US/Australia, but those are huge countries with massive economies, the Irish were a blip on their radars...
We had a bigger population 200 years ago
@@bid84 I know we had, which is one of the reasons we had a famine and mass immigration as well...it was agricultural and self supporting for the most part...
@@sherp2u1 Remember the war? Remember the Easter rising? No we didn’t rely on one crop. It was rich in Dairy cows pigs and sheep. Remember it was all shipped out of Ireland to England. Learn some history.

"Too many safeguards for war to happen"Meanwhile in the White House"What does this button do?"
But he was right. World War III didn't happen. The Americans and the Soviets just stared angrily at each other while they measured their dicks.
Wars are manufactured for profit and the media knows it but is complicit in the lie. It's biggest component is the transfer of wealth.
Basically saying "Increase da Peace" 20 years before Ali G. Booyakasha!
"Things will be easy going and simple" LOL
Current Ireland is UK 2.0 with 32 genders
more genders than counties in the Republic today
🤣
We're very proud of our insanity too. When everyone is insane does that make us all sane? Culture is insanity handed down from generation to generation. Our wars are borne out of each new generation wanting their insanity to dominate all the other forms of it in the world.
Is that a young Mary McEvoy (Biddy from Glenroe) talking at 0:27?? Damned like her!!
I’m so glad I came across this comment because I was thinking I know that face….it most definitely is her! Has to be!!!
Definitely not this was only 3 years before Glenroe was first aired plus the fact that she doesn’t look remotely like her.
That's her alright.

The guy that predicted the violence was bang on .(unfortunately)
All or mostly was/ is drug related. violence..
Each drug user is responsible for the violence and deaths because if they had a bit of self worth they would find better ways to entertain and relax theirselves..
No demand = no drugs = no deaths = no wasted live .
Clown. Blaming the drugs rather than the society they were thrown into that gives them their shit lot in life. Ever seen the experiment done on rats using cocaine? Rats use cocaine when their lives are crap. Give them good rat lives and they ignore the cocaine. Another option is to legalize the drugs like alcohol is legal.
@@daithiocinnsealach1982
There are many many well to do / rich people who take ( illegal drugs ).
They certainly aren’t at the bottom of the heap .
The ordinary working class ( those who are living from paycheck to paycheck ) also turn to drugs , whether It’s over the counter, illegal or alcohol to deal with life.
Doing this merely acts as a short term fix .
The working class would be better off becoming politically educated and know and take action to improve life for everyone.
The majority of politicians have thrown in their lot with the elites and will only do the bare minimum for the workers.
The workers need to understand that they are used by the politicians , the illegal drug dealers ,
big pharma etc and the only way to
overcome this is for each person to educate theirselves on what is really happening .
If you are drugged up from legal/ illegal drugs that isn’t going to happen .
Big pharma and illegal drug dealers have a big financial interest in keeping people drugged up and dependent on their products .
@@Dannydantimpat it just ain't that simple. Humanity is suffering. I see it every day. Simply continuing a war against the mentally sick is to continue the suffering of humanity. If someone smoke marijuana to help with their depression I'm not going to call them a criminal anymore than I'd call someone who's drink to forget a criminal. Drugs need to be controlled, not banned. The sick need help, not condemnation. They need support, not banishment from society. They need understanding, not fear.
You mean oil.
@@daithiocinnsealach1982
I’m not condemning anyone that is sick either physically or mentally .
Drugs do have a limited place in treatment of medical conditions,
however it’s the underlying conditions that causes physical and mental illness that need to be
worked at .
When drugs both legal and illegal or alcohol are used to suppress symptoms , it inevitably leads to a need of consume more of these medications and in turn this leads to addiction .
Not everyone start off taking drugs
so as to help deal with some physical or mental issue but it isn’t long before they develop one or other or both conditions from these
recreational drugs .
In the meantime big legal pharma and illegal drug dealers are laughing all the way to the bank on the misfortune of so many people .
How long has Pat Kenny been in RTE is a better question 😂😂
Way too long
He's long gone from RTE
@@paulwelch1992 but still getting his fat pension from RTE curtesy if the licence payer.
@@michaelwalsh9145 Just like every other civil servant. I've no objection to Pat Kenny receiving a pension based on earnings, contributions etc and if it happens to be large so be it. I'd be more concerned about some of the current outlandish salaries at RTE. Football players are paid stupid sums of money and their agents negotiate and sell them to the highest bidder but who else would bid for some of RTE's presenters? Virgin Media couldn't afford that kind of salary scale and therefore there is no where else to go..

@@Jotari but they did there was war in Ireland up until the late 90s
@@seaniethelamb1 That's not a prediction. The troubles were in full swing in 1979, the 70s had some of the worst years of the Troubles. By 1999, the specific year they were talking about, the Good Friday Agreement had been signed at the Troubles had been put to an end.

It says in the intro what country.

Looks like Dublin City Centre. It doesn't say specifically which county of the country in the video but the double-decker bus in those colours lends itself to Dub City Centre.
Pat Kenny around in those days too.

Wah! the boy a war. Spot on 2022 Russian Ukraine war.
It was 1979 and they were talking about 20 years in the future which was 1999. Also the Russian Ukraine war started in 2014 but the media are only hyping it up now to push up prices. Also they were talking about world war.
