    TRANSCRIPT:
    [MAYFAIR]
[AZIRAPHALE KNOCKS AT CROWLEY’S APARTMENT DOOR]
C: Yep? Ah. I wondered when you’d come crawling back.
    A: Uhm, listen-
C: Oh, I’m listening. I am LISTENING Archangel Aziraphale. Should I bow? Should I save you a seat?
    A: I’m afraid it’s not-
C: Go on then. What have you gotta say? Why are you here?!
    A: [tears up]
C: [gasp] Wait, why is- show me your wings.
    A: [whimpers]
    C: Show me.
    A: Why do you care?!
C: Because I still…I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Show me, please.
[AZIRAPHALE LETS HIS WINGS FREE. THEY’RE BLACK AND BURNING. HE’S IN PAIN. HE’S FALLEN]
    C: Oh my god…
    A: [sobs]
    C: No…
    A: I-I didn’t do anything wrong…I tried my best.
C: Look. Look at me, look. I know. I know. Everything is going to be fine.
    A: No, it won’t!
C: Yes. Yes it will. You have me.
    A: But you hate me!
C: No, I don’t! Trust me, I have tried to hate you but I can’t. And I know you need me right now. So you’ve got me. And after you’ve recovered, you can go. You’ll never have to see me again, but for now-
A: ‘’Never have to see you again’’? Oh, Crowley, don’t break my heart this way.
    C: What…?
A: What makes you think I want to go?
    C: I thought…
A: No. I don’t. Do you want me to leave?
    C: No, of course not.
A: …Why not?! I’m not even Aziraphale anymore.
    C: Angel-
    A: DON’T call me that! It’s a lie!
C: That’s not why I call you that, and I think you know it.
    A: I’m a DEMON! A black-hearted, shell of an angel. A monster!
C: ….Is that what you think about me?
    A: No. Never.
C: So why say it? Why say it about yourself?
A: I don’t know. I’ve always tried to be proud of myself. No one else ever was.
    C: I was-
A: I never wanted to disappoint God. But I did. She cast me out.
C: But what did you do?
A: What do you think? What did you do? What did we both do? Neither of us were ever good enough for Her and me? I was supposed to fix everything. But I ended up destroying everything.
C: That’s what they want you to think, angel, but-
A: Stop calling me that, please.
C: Okay…what do you want me to call you?
    A: I don’t know. I don’t think I have a name.
C: I think you do. I think your name is Aziraphale. Principality. Angel of the Eastern Gate. Former Archangel of Heaven. And the angel of my dreams.
A: No! [sobs] You can’t call me that anymore.
C: Aziraphale, I have spent my entire existence breaking the rules. You are no exception to that.
    A: Why?
    C: What do you mean-
A: I forgave you and you told me not to bother. I always thought that meant we were…well, that we weren’t-
C: I can’t help how I feel. Just like you can’t help doing the right thing. Which you have done today. That’s why they cast you out, Aziraphale. You’re not bad. You’re certainly not evil. Please don’t try to be.
A: [sobs] Am I going to Hell? What if they send me down to Hell?
C: You’re not going anywhere. Not if I can help it. It’s unlikely they’ll come for you anyway since you came here. Why did you come here?
A: It was the first place I could think of.
    C: Not the bookshop?
A: No. Wow, apparently not. I suppose, I just wanted to see you.
    C: Oh, I’m sorry I yelled.
[CROWLEY AND AZIRAPHALE PRESS THEIR FOREHEADS TOGETHER, HOLDING HANDS]
    A: It’s alright. I deserved it.
    C: No, you didn’t.
A: I just want to go back to normal.
    C: I know. I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…
    A: [sobs]
C: You’re still an angel to me. You’re still my angel. I hope that’s okay. Is that okay?
A: Yes [sobs]. What on Earth do we do now?
C: We move on, I suppose. It may be hard at first. To adjust. But I know exactly what it feels like. I’ll be here for you however long it takes.
    A: And then?
C: And then. We can run away. We can run off together like they do in the films and the books.
    A: You…you still?
C: Oh, of course I do, you silly angel. I love you. I’m in love with you.
    A: I love you too.
    C: I know. I always knew that.

This already had me crying 2 minutes in. Freaking therapy session! I love that you understand them so well here: Azi always says these kinds of things without realizing how it might hurt Crowley, even if on a subconscious level, as he usually doesn't noticeably react when Aziraphale says degrading things about demons to him. This feels exactly like what he would do if he fell: talk badly about himself, not realizing that anything he says about himself is also being said about Crowley. And Crowley being there for him because he knows what he's going through, and just feels horrible for him despite everything. He's patient. He's so patient with him. Azi might not deserve him, but I'm so glad he has him. And we can't forget that at heart, Azi is really a kind, sweet, well-meaning person. He's never intentionally trying to hurt Crowley: I think half the time he sees it as playful banter (Get thee behind me, foul fiend!) while the other half of the time he thinks that Crowley is genuinely doing something wrong, and he really wishes Crowley wouldn't do that (tempting people into sin and the like). He actually _believes_ that what Crowley's side wants is bad, and that sometimes Crowley does bad things, but that he's good deep down. That's why he loves him, but still judges him. If he realized that he himself was wrong about any of it, he certainly wouldn't be saying these things to him. It gives him anxiety that Crowley ever does things he doesn't approve of _because_ of how much he loves him, and wants Crowley to be on the same page as him. He doesn't realize that _he_ might be the one that needs to flip the page: that Crowley is 20 chapters ahead of him, and he's the one who needs to catch up.
I think the problem is that he has a hard time trusting his own judgement. He's uncertain: if I'm disagreeing with Heaven, if Heaven is angry with me, is that because I'm wrong? Are my feelings for Crowley really just me letting myself be tempted by a demon? Is he converting me to his bad ways? Am I letting myself be brainwashed by the other side? He says we're on "our side," but what does that even mean? There's a right side and a wrong side, isn't there? And he wants to be some sort of third-party to that? That doesn't even make sense! We're either right or we're wrong: on the side of good, or, by default, on the side of evil.
He hasn't learned to think for himself because he's spent too long trusting that even if something doesn't make sense to him, it's all a part of God's plan, and she's wiser and understands/knows more than he does, and that just because he doesn't understand it, doesn't mean that it doesn't make sense/isn't right. It's hard to break out of that kind of thinking when it accounts for things not seeming to make sense. So when Crowley shows him that God isn't making sense, Aziraphale falls back on, "But see: that's just part of the ineffability of it all! We're not _supposed_ to understand it, but in time this will all make sense. We'll see: when this is all said and done, Her plan will finally all make sense to us."

I think this might be my favourite one yet. I can absolutely see something like this happening and I really hope it does. I think it will take Aziraphale being openly vulnerable to provide an opening for communication. Ironically, he's guarded himself against Crowley for too long, and if he opens himself up, it will be a pivotal display of trust that will be a love confession in itself. Great intimacy can come from being vulnerable. You did a remarkable job here. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ahhh, this is so bittersweet… 🌹
Beautifully written and voiced, especially Crowley with all the tumultuous emotions he had to quickly sort through- it’s all there, in his voice.
