    Is there a noteable difference in top speed/ power, when comaring the 250 quad runner to the 300 king quad { with both of them being the selectable 2x4 + 4x4 models } ?

    I was cleaning my carb and used your video and for some reason I was having trouble adjusting the idle screw to where it would run right, and it was running really rich. I had put the clip on the needle on the highest spot to try to get it to seat lower to not allow more gas in. After hours of adjusting I finally got it to idle. Then when I put my air box back on it wouldn’t even start. After reviewing your video again I found that on the needle I was putting spacer, washer then clip on the needle not washer, clip and lastly spacer. Thanks your the good video.

    I love this bike when it's running. It was way ahead of it's time. Mine sat for years after buying a UTV and won't run now.
    After following your videos I was able to get the carb apart and cleaned up. I replaced the petcock as it had failed as well. Now we just need a video of getting the darned carb back in and the intake boot on. I imagine it'll be a 6 hour video with lots of cussing, kicking, and beer. Then we realize the carb needs more attention and do the process all over again.

    A tip for those who struggle with putting the carb back in with the airbox and intake hoses, take off your top plate where the range knobs are, remove the bolt holding the white snorkel and slide it back, then carefully cut off those back tabs on the airbox, it makes it MUCH easier to remove and replace the carb when needed. I can now tune the carb a lot faster and easier. Just make sure that it is secured (I used zip ties) and not touching the exhaust that is close to it.

    I just finished a carb rebuild 3/20/21. I have a 96 king 300. I am the sole owner. It would smell like it was running rich after shut off. The mid range circlip was set in the fourth groove and the idle screw was four turns out. I used the new needle and put the circlip in the middle of the five grooves and set the idle jet to two and a half turns out. The needle seat retain screw would not turn so I used a craftsman 1/4x4in. chisel #42971 to get it loose (that chisel has come in handy often) and reinstall it. I used a small screw driver handle to hold open the butterfly to install the throttle cable. I used 3in1 oil to lube the inside lip of the rubber boot to install it. I got the bottom of the boot to seat first on each end and used a very very small flat head screw driver to finish getting the top of the boot to seat first on the carb then on the air box. Started right up and after a one mile test ride no rich smell after shut off. Thanks Josh.

    Thanks for this video. Great detail including removal. I have done this before but it is not like most carb removals and disassemblies. Your video makes it very clear. Also you made a good point about test running with hoses installed. I didn't know that so it was part of why I couldn't get the engine started after rebuild. I also was unclear about how many turns the fuel mixture should have been (I forgot to count when removing it 😣). That rubber air feed hose connecting to the carb is the most awkward part of this job. More time is spent on reinstalling that darned thing than any other part of the servicing. I sure wish the rubber was more pliable. Thanks again for posting this.

    Watched this a couple times - will watch a couple more as I work on my carb for the first time. Really appreciate your work here. This is way overdue on my '97. Had an episode where I ran out of fuel, adjusted the petcock to reserve, ran out again (quickly), filled tank, ran briefly, quit, got grey smoke out the exhaust when cranking, then no starting (piston just wouldn't move). So, I'm doing the carb. Found fuel in the air intake box soaking the bottom of the filter. My fuel has leaked to the point where the remainder is flush with the top of the petcock (longer) intake. I want to remove the petcock next. Do you see any issue with me tipping the machine on it's right side, so I can remove the petcock without having to empty the fuel tank?

    I got mine back from the shop a while back. The carb needed to be cleaned. I wondered why it kept acting "cold natured" and took forever to keep running. Finally I tore into it and found out they had left the pilot screw fully seated. NO WONDER. Well anyway I ended up pulling it off just so I could adjust it. I have it maybe 2 5/8 or almost there per the service manual. The one thing that sucks about how the carb is sitting in there is the fact that you really cannot adjust it while it's running. But it's doing really well now nevertheless. lol.

I followed your video and was able to get the carb cleaned, oil changed (thanks for your other video on oil changes) and the quad started right up to my surprise. I do have a problem though. The thing Idles super high in neutral but as soon as I put it in gear the idle drops down. Though I put choke back wrong. That didn’t change anything. Tried spinning the idle adjustment but nothing changes. Any help would be much appreciated.

    • @Schneids15
      @Schneids15  3 года назад

      Hey Matt, thanks for the comment. I assume you set the carb idle to 2 5/8 turn out like i said in the video? I would set the idle up in neutral first. Check the end of your choke fitting where the plastic meets that kinda rubber boot thing and give the cable a wiggle and see if that settles it down. I have had an air leak around that cable cause that issue before. Also check that your vacuum lines are all hooked up.

    Hey man! First I wanted to thank you for a great video. It really helped give me the confidence to tackle this repair without sending it out, couldn’t have done this without your video.
    However, I was wondering if you could help me trouble shoot an issue...
    First off, the bike sat for a couple years. I drained the gas, changed the oil/filter, air filter and added fresh gas. It fired right up with no issues. However I wanted to rebuild the carb as it sat so long with old gas.
    I pulled the carb, used a rebuild kit and replaced all jets/gaskets and followed your directions. It was actually pretty clean, but the jets were a little corroded.
    After reinstalling the carb, it kicked over on full choke for a minute the than died. After that I could only get it to turn over on full choke, for five seconds, very limply, and as soon as I let go of the start button it quits. Now it won’t start at all.
    Any idea what could be going on? Could I maybe have mixed up the vent hoses or hav something on wrong? I don’t think it’s the petcock, fuel, or anything like that, as the bike had no issue running before. As far as I can tell, the connections to the air box and from the carb to the motor are on tight.
    I also saw you mentioned something about the rubber boot on the choke being “over top” what did you mean by that?
    The machine is a 99 and only has 1k miles on it. I just can’t figure it out and was hoping that you had a tip or something before I have to tear it off and try again.
    I also have a digital copy of the shop manual I’d be happy to send you for your effort. Please let me know if you have any thoughts or need me to clear off further and thanks again!

    Josh great videos! Just picked up a 94 king quad for 200bucks. Cleaned carb and got her running thanks to your videos. Does it matter where you run the vaccum line comming off the fuel petcock? Carb was completely off when I bought it. My carb has a plastic tube on one side (fuel line side ) and a metal tube on the throttle cable side. Two vent tubes directly behind the diagram? You are the king quad master. Thanks

    • @Schneids15
      @Schneids15  4 года назад +2

      No vacuum lines do not matter. Plug the one line going to the petcock. It will cause issues if the diaphragm breaks. If it has a barb it is a vacuum line. If not it is a vent.

    Hi Schneids, I have a king quad 300 with a mishmash of Chinese and stock carburetor parts. What’s really interesting is that the plastic piece in the middle that guides the slide and holds the emulsion tube wasn’t seated right- carb was flooding right out. It has these plastic ears that stopped it from going down into the bowl far enough. Cut those off and now she’s running nicely, but lean. What I am curious about though is if it’s for the wrong carburetor. Would you mind sending me a close up picture of the throat of the stock carburetor from the air filter side? If it looks pretty close to mine I’ll spend the money on OEM jets to finish the tune up. Thanks!

    Good video but I'll add when you takeoff the choke cable be sure you also remove the brass piece that's on the cable, I didn't and it fell into the engine area. I was on grass and couldn't find it, look all over. Then I put a black blanket under the atv and shock real hard and it fell out onto the blanket, lucked out.

    Had someone professionally rebuild this carb on my king quad 300 and it never would idle and would rev up constantly/backfire like it was getting too much fuel. I took it back apart and adjusted like you did and now it will idle, but if I try to touch the throttle it will shut off. Any suggestions? I have tried moving the pilot screw to 2, 2.5, and 3 turns with very little difference. Throttle issue is still the same. Thank you!

    Hey bud..you forgot to remove your o-ring and washer under the pilot screw..also, alot of people are not aware that the needle jet ( emulsion tube ) must be removed and cleaned as well...they are notorious for getting plugged..i remove all parts and put them in a ultrasonic cleaning machine..( best money you'll ever spend) ensure the orifices are clear on the needle jet..if not, I use a small strand of copper wire to clear the holes if need be.. NEVER use " torch tip cleaner" to clear obstructions as these orifices may become oversized which are specific to the carburetor...cheers

    Hey man just a quick tip if you didn’t already know, it blew my mind when I found out but - most of these atvs are manufactured using JIS screws, not Phillips, JIS is short for “Japanese industrial standard” and usually they have a small dot on the screw head to signify that they are JIS. That is why almost every carb you come across nowadays has stripped out bowl screws, and stripped out screws all over the machine because 99% of the time they are manufactured in Japan using JIS, and every guy who’s owned it previously has stripped them out using Phillips. I recommend looking into Vessel JIS screwdrivers, they are known for they’re quality, they are true JIS, and you can order them right off Amazon. It’s honestly an unbelievable difference, id recommend anyone who owns an Japanese manufactured atv should at the very least own a #2 JIS screwdriver. It will even remove the mostly stripped Phillips screws quite often as JIS just bites that much more vs Phillips

I think it is a safety issue. I turned down the throttle on the right side using the little turn nob but still the same thing. Hard to get it into and out of reverse. Any suggestions?

I did notice the rubber was in bad shape where the choke goes in the the carb. Could this be my problem? I have searched on line everywhere for a replacement to no avail. A set of JIS spec screw drivers are the ticket when working on these carbs. I replaced all the stripped screws with socket head screws when I did the one on my dirt bike, no different than these. JIS screw heads aren't the same as Phillips, Phillips I think were intentionally designed to strip out lol.

  • @SgtJoeSmith
    @SgtJoeSmith 4 года назад +1

    what creates the vacuum to operate the vacuum pump on top to operate the fuel pump? crank case? or how does diaphragm move? i just cleaned one and put it back on. but havent connected the air box and filter yet so that may be the issue. not getting any suction coming out for fuel pump. did before taking it off though. yes its back together correctly and tab lined up. i saw that. ive worked on mowers, ope, bicycles, cars, trucks for 20 years but new to atvs and the atv style carb.
    also working on polaris 200cc phoenix i think it is. about 15 years old. had it running perfect. but drain valve on carb bowl was leaking and not sealing. took carb off. swapped bowls. did quick clean without disassembly of any internal parts, new o ring against block. new air filter. now it backfires like crazy unless choke is half on then it seems to run without back fires. neighbor called cops cause thought i was shooting guns from polaris back fires

    • @Schneids15
      @Schneids15  4 года назад

      As far as the phoenix it sounds like a lean pop. The choke richens it up and makes it run OK. Vacuum is created by the piston going downwards drawing a low pressure.

    Great video. I have a 1994 king quad 300 and one day I was riding around the yard and it stalled out on me. Immediately started right back up but would only idle. Would kill itself if you
    Gave it any gas. Took the carb apart and found a little piece of rubber stuck in the main jet. Ended up cleaning the whole carb, put it back together but this time it wouldn’t run at all. Bought a new carb, and now it’s back to where it was from the beginning... starts right up, but you can’t give it any gas without it dying out. It also is idling up real high randomly then isles down and kills itself again.. any help would be extremely appreciated thanks!

    • @Schneids15
      @Schneids15  4 года назад

      Sounds like a loose connection where the choke cable goes in and it is sucking air. Make sure you have the intake boot on or this stalling issue will happen as it will run too lean.

    • @zachelias175
      @zachelias175 4 года назад

      Still no luck. Have the intake boot on, iv tried setting my carb between 2 turns out, 2.5 turns and 3 turns out on the fuel mixture and no change. I bought one of the Chinese carbs you just did a video on and it was hogging down when you’d give it gas just like yours. Starts right up like nothing though. I’m almost to the point where I take half of the parts from the new carb and put them into the old one
