Islam shocked people... when it was too superstitious (if compared with other beliefs) ... when it enforced Muslims to prostrate around one mythical stone idol in Mecca 5 times daily...for one mythical ghost being only called the Quran Allah... exactly like the pre-Islam pagan time.
Masha Allah, you're from Uzbekistan? the land of Imam Bukhari, one of the greatest scholars of Hadiths.

I pray but not consistantly, my goal this year is to never miss any prayer, 5 times everyday, I hope I'll be able to achieve this before Ramadan. Inshaa Allah.

Establish it. Even if it's just 2 rakaat. Make it consistent. Start small, make it consistent and constant.
you are on the right path my brother But you should know that there are people who want to make Islam very difficult so dont believe anyone quickly you have to check everything by yourself for example singing there are many who say it is "HARAM" but In fact there is not one single text in the quran or the sunnah that says that music is ever forbidden "HARRAM" there is only one text in the Sunnah that says that the flute is forbidden "HARRAM". so other musical instruments are neither "HALAL" nor "HARRAM" they are permissible "MOBAH"
any way the early muslim scholars did not say that singing is haram nor did they say that it is halal rather it is permissible if the words are not bad or naked people
by the way the arabs at the time of the Prophet PBUH used to use a lot of musical instruments and most of the musical instruments known now are originally from Arab culture like "guitar" It is an Arabic word.

Although this is quite a contentious issue, but still I would say that I have personally reaped some spiritual benefits after I quit listening music as far as possible.

Music has both the things; musical instruments and songs, it is unlawful to hear it. Whatever you heard about musical instruments is not right; it is surely a mischief of this age. To merely feel joy and pleasure in heart is not spirituality but the spirituality is the name of seeking closeness of Allah Almighty and it can be achieved only by doing good deeds and acting upon Islamic rulings. It is sheer superstition of mind and satanic doubt to claim achieving the spirituality through anti-Islamic matters.

Prayer is the most important thing and the first act for which God Almighty will hold man accountable
Yes indeed
I started praying very late in my life,
but it is the best thing I ever did, beyond all the physical or tangible benefits of giving each day a structure and a routine, I was able to schedule my life around it and everything started to fall in place.
Moreover when I conciously started asking for things, I inadvertantly reduced the procastination and I started working towards my goals, previously which I would only wish but do nothing about.
Starting it at a later stage also helped me doing quality prayers, as I had to conciously make an effort to learn the meanings of whatever we say in prayer, rather than just parroting the Arabic words, like most non-arab muslims are guilty of.
Conversing with Allah 5 times a day keeps me in check, anything stupid that comes to mind is quickly mitigated by the prayer and İ get a chance to thank Allah for keeping me safe from sin and keeping others safe from the evil of my hands and especially my tongue.
İ hope it motivates anyone who reads this and helps them improve their lives too, here and hereafter.

Even we still doing every sin until today, just never forget to take a prayer (shalah). One day your shalah will make you stop from doing sin again. Another, don't let 1 week gone without studying or listening something about our religion ISLAM, we need this thing to maintain our faith (iman).

- [On the authority of Umar ibn al-Khattab:] While we were with the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, a man with very white clothes, very black hair, did not see the trace of travel on him, and we did not know him, until he sat down with the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, so he rested his knees on his knees and placed his palms on his thighs, and said: Oh Muhammad Tell me about Islam. The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: Islam is to testify that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God, to establish prayer, to pay zakat, to fast Ramadan, and to perform pilgrimage to the House if a way is possible to it. He said: You are right. He said: We were amazed at him asking him and believing him. He said: Then tell me about faith. He said: To believe in God, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day, and to believe in fate, its good and its bad. He said: You are right. He said: Then tell me about ihsan. He said: To worship God as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, He sees you. He said: Then tell me about the hour. He said: What is responsible for it knows no better than the questioner. He said: Then tell me about its signs. He said: That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress, and that you will see the barefooted, naked, destitute shepherds competing in constructing lofty buildings. He said: Then go, so I broadcast three times, then he said: O Omar, do you know who the questioner was? I said: God and His Messenger know best. He said: It is Gabriel who came to teach you your religion.
