Watch 7 videos before this one and this is a winner hands down. You went step-by-step which is exactly what I needed as a beginner...and with a serious dose of humor. Thanks!!
omg yes, so many videos, so much of my life I can't get back now watching them. "Soo...these are the many screws you can use with the flat top 2 1/4" versus the 3 1/4" but the threading isn't right for cabinets and you gotta countersink all your..." What??? I don't care about the difference between 50 different screws. Just show me how to put up a cabinet. It can't be THAT hard, right? Ugh, thank god this video is to the point.
Wonderful job explaining, came to make sure I don't miss anything and it was clearly laid out. Ty! 10:00 for those wondering the easiest way to do this, just take your screw, lay it on top of your drill bit and when you hold them up, you should only see the teeth of the screw poking out and the middle of the bit should line up / eclipse the middle of the screw. If this is the case, then you have the perfect size bit and you know the teeth will grab.
Oh my gosh! ".. because the last thing you want on any kind of day, sunny or cloudy is to die.". When I was a younger girl, I was doing dishes at our farmhouse, and the cabinets all fell off the wall simultaneously. Because I was at the kitchen sink doing the dishes I didn't get pinned in because the cabinet above my head was shorter. And the other cabinets when they fell because of the dishes etc that were in them it pushed the doors open and made them kind of prop themselves up when they hit the floor. Talk about one of the scariest things I ever dealt with as a 12-year-old! It was awful!! Thank you! You are making this uber easy to think about installing our wall cabinets well....ON STUDS!!!
To find studs using only a 1/16" drill bit l l l First try knocking on the wall to hear where it sounds least hollow. The stud should be near there. Then in a location that will be covered up by what you are going to hang on the wall, drill a hole in the sheetrock. If you hit nothing but sheetrock move 3/4" left or right until you hit wood. Then drill another couple holes 1/2" left and right of where you hit wood and when you hit nothing again you will know about where the middle of the stud must be. Then make one more hole above that point so you can easily identify it when you go back to it again and measure 16" left and right. Then repeat for the next stud.
Very easy to follow and well done video. I would, however, warn people that they need to consider weight when choosing a cabinet and how to mount it. Many modern cabinets have a cheap backing material that is mostly cosmetic and, lots of times, not even held too well to the actual cabinet itself - using the hanging method in this video with a cabinet like that will result in a cabinet that will fall with any light or moderate weight (if it doesn't fall off short after going up). If you are going to use the back of the cabinet to mount it, then you need to make sure that a) the backing material is strong enough to hold under the weight and b) the backing material is solidly fastened or part of the cabinet itself.
I agree. After years of saying I would make some cabinets, I finally purchased some big box (=poorly made) versions. I added internally and externally horizontal 1X3 strips. I tied them together with screwed in “L” brackets. I also left the ledger board up since in a garage looks aren’t critical but strength will be.
This video was entertaining and amazingly helpful. I watched it all the way through and went straight to work on hanging two cabinets by myself. I felt very comfortable even though I had not done it before. It turned out great. Thank you!
THANK YOU! I’ve never installed a cabinet before, and thanks to this video I just hung a bathroom cabinet perfectly! And it was entertaining too! I’m definitely subscribing.
I just barely started this video, and I love it already with a little laugh , sense of humor is great to have while you’re learning. Thanks for sharing. ❤
"Depending on the building code or how rooted the workers were when they built your house" TRUTH! My townhouse was built by workers that exhausted pretty quickly and had all sorts of quirks in it! Love the video!
LOVE IT! Informative and funny! Single Mom for 15 years and I do ALL of my own home repairs, etc. I thought I would attempt this project as I've just bought a new washer and dryer. I WILL master this project with the help of you fella's! Thanks much from TEXAS!!
Wow, this was fantastic. I always wondered how does a cabinet stay supported with all the stuff in it 🙂 Now I'm confident I can get this done. But I would probably use washers with the screws as an extra measure, especially with manufactured fake wood at the back of the cabinets. Thanks a bunch!
This was a very detailed install. I did not do mine this way but been up over 10yrs. Boy could I have used you as my Watson. Like to redo my wall of cabinets but here also looking how to build base for a vertical row of 18-inch wall cabs. Saw yesterday at Lowe's, they have a herringbone pattern butcher block counter, look great. Thanks for a well done illustration.
His voice is so calming and the commentary is hilarious and needed. Many long videos can put you to sleep, laughing keeps you awake and interested. Subscribing!
OK I wasn't sold the first fre videos( I simply recognized your voice), amd i randomly cane across this one. I actually do some things differently than the way you do it here but mskes no difference. The simple VARIETY of videos sold me....subscribed...
This video was so helpful and entertaining! I know I’ll need a Watson, but I’m confident that with your explanation, we can do it. Now I just need a Watson!
We used your video to install our cabinets and it was great! Thank you so much for being thorough and yet easy at the same time. You are a great teacher. And, we loved your humor!
I appreciate this video so much! It is well paced, well thought out, clear, concise. Thank you so very much. This is exactly the project I am working on and it is all the information I needed and then some! ❤️❤️❤️
Enjoyed the humor and the narration, the step by step was great. The only issue is if you're not going to put up a backsplash you're going to have to repair the holes made by the ledger which means spackle, a can of wall texture, and they hopefully have existing paint so you don't have to try and get a match. Anyway it was a great video, thanks.
Stud finders seem quirky. I use several round / flat magnets to find where the sheetrock guys put the screws. Sometime i put tape on them to protect the wall as I slide them around looking for screws. I have about 15 and so i just leave them on the wall, move them side to side to feel the magnet trying to align the center of the screws. Bringing in a stud finder after this would probably be a decent option. You can also take off the baseboard and use a sheetrock saw or some thin nails to find the stud edges then put the molding back and nobody knows.
Check the location of the stud around the light switch(in a pinch) by removing the faceplate of the switch or socket and look carefully for where the mounting screws/nails are located it can give a clue where it it too. Ive used this to hang a couple of pictures after my Stud Finder finally died.

Remember, the first step you need is a wall.
"you are the king, queen, both, or none of your castle" I gotta say, that was really sweet. Thanks for the great video! You're a lifesaver
Thank you! 😊
The first thing you're gonna need is a wall. I actually laughed when you said this....
Rip for carton type wall
Yea, LOL
That aint no lie 😆
Wall, shit thats why my cabinets install didn't work last time!
Wall that has a stud

this is the reason that I'm here watching this video! Our cabinet pulled away from its backing 😣
This video was entertaining and amazingly helpful. I watched it all the way through and went straight to work on hanging two cabinets by myself. I felt very comfortable even though I had not done it before. It turned out great. Thank you!
No gimmicks or ideas, just a simple and powerful fundamental method of hanging cabinets.

Previous owner installed new drywall over lath and plaster. Its impossible to find the studs. Im tempted to demolish complete walls sometimes
