In order for Mr. Saab's collections to be officially called "haute couture" they MUST be made in Paris, by a full-time staff of, at least, 15 members: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haute_couture#Official_members
TheReturnOfStephan1 you are so wrong as Elle Saab and all other Lebanese designers whom are at the red carpet all started from Lebanon and Elle and others all based in Beirut and all the collections done in Beirut. Beirut is well known in couture since the 30s. Yes Paris still the fashion capital of the world and that's why Elle Saab, Zuhair murad, George shakra, George hobaika and all the other Lebanese designers are showing their collection in Paris.

My reply to Sylla Atlas comment: I disagree. Couture is in a person's gifted hands and design mind not the country. Couture can be anywhere. But if you don't have a famous name it won't be considered as couture. So many talented people in this world sewing and designing from basements, attics, closets lol! The term couture overtime has been completely misunderstood. Everyone is saying this is couture this is couture. Well no it's not. Just remember, if your sewing machine touch it then it's no longer considered couture. If you purchased the fabric from your local fabric store, then it's no longer considered couture. Couture is completely handsewn the fabric is completely hand made. The design is original.
Of course he picks Haute Couture because Haute Couture has a bigger price tag aka gets more money!

But as Chanel said: "Real Haute Couture only happens in Paris". He's not a real haute couture seamstress. The few last true haute couture houses, with the ateliers in the walls, in the house itself, with an atelier flou and an atelier tailleur, with premières d'atelier are rare, like Chanel and Dior to name the most famous. Those houses are so traditional, that even when the premières travel to make fittings, they only readjust and retouch the piece when they are back in Paris. That's true haute couture, not the couture that is sewn in huge halls by random (of course very talented) seamstresses, without ateliers and where the prices are not high. Elie Saab may do good dresses, but it's not real haute couture.
Exactly, I was lucky enough to study haute couture techniques in Paris and only then I had the full understanding on why couture is couture and why it has to be there. Certainly he must have the basic requirements by the chambre to operate as a couture house and it may be why half of his operation is in Paris.
It is and it is not. Real haute couture is made in Paris, but all other countries have their own term: Italy, alta moda.
