    For anybody reading this who is nervous about their MRI scan, I just did mine today and was extremely nervous beforehand. Making sure you ask questions and understand what will happen during your scan is key to feeling more comfortable. Don’t be nervous like I was because it honestly was cooler than scarier BY A MILE. If you’re claustrophobic, just close your eyes and relax. Listen to the music or fall asleep if you can. If not, just count in your head or think about fun things. Your MRI will be great, I promise. All my stress and worry was for nothing and I hope you will feel the same. You got this!

    • @milkyuhnom5925
      @milkyuhnom5925 2 года назад +10

      that’s the thing tho, i have extremely low cortisol and ACTH deficiency so my body doesn’t produce enough hormones to control my stress, so once i stress i can’t stop. i tried the closed mri and i couldn’t handle being inside my claustrophobia and anxiety got triggered so they transferred me to an open mri instead

      @@milkyuhnom5925 I understand. I've actually never had to do an open MRI before but sometimes I wish I got to see how different it was from the closed MRI machine and what other things they do before the actual scan. Hopefully, it all works out for you! I'm sure it will.

      I think I could’ve gone through mine easily but I didn’t get music, I had to wear my mask, plus I have anxiety so with the mask I just felt like I couldn’t breathe which sucked. This one looked like it was much better. Also here they said 12 minutes but mine they said 25 minutes. I guess it just depends on the location at which you get it done and the one I was at was just a bare bones MRI, earplugs and the rest of the pillows and face thingy (plus the mask).

    • @joedavis7068
      @joedavis7068 2 года назад +7

      @@theemptybox8343 other than the mask part everything else sounded nice. They said mine was gonna be TWO HOURS 😂. It ended up being about 45min but it goes by so quick that I just closed my eyes and before I knew it, it was over. Honestly, the worst part of the whole thing was when they took the needle out of my arm when for the blood test and such. For some reason it just hurt a little bit. Overall though, kind of a cool experience depending on where you go and how you’re treated when they do your MRI.

    • @theemptybox8343
      @theemptybox8343 2 года назад +6

      @@joedavis7068 yeah I totally agree with you. Depending on how you’re treated will definitely change how you feel about it. If I had some music or something it would’ve been nice but unfortunately where I was it was just straight ear plugs and don’t panic.

    I just got an mri today. If you’re nervous, don’t be.
    I’m a wussy and am terrified of loud noises (gives me anxiety and hurts my ears) and don’t care for small spaces, and I have a severe anxiety problem. I’m a young woman, 22 years old, who has a lot of problems due to anorexia nervosa and binge eating. I had to get an mri of my brain and neck. (Something is messing with my nerves and nervous system, which has affected my brain.)
    I may even have to go back for other things. Who knows.
    And everyone told me about how bad getting an mri was and that it was a scary, horrible experience. I got myself all worked up over it and cried the first time, didn’t even get in the machine. I came back with a Valium this next time, and was scared, but also ready, and I told myself it didn’t matter what happened, it was just noise and I needed treatment. I told myself to drown it out and rest, that it would all be over soon and it doesn’t matter anyways cause nothing matters, but my health.
    And I just knew I had to do it, so I sucked it up. My mom wasn’t even able to come with me, so I had my dad, and my aunt works there, so she actually stayed in the room with me and held my leg. (Was nervous about not having mom with me, but told myself it was now or never.)
    And let me tell you guys, it wasn’t no where near as bad as everyone made it out to be. I am the biggest wuss and it wasn’t bad at all. No pain. No panic attack. And it went by so fast. I did great, except I kept trying to move. It was not as loud as everyone said it was. It wasn’t even as loud as my music I listen to. The ear protection and headphone did pretty good as the sound sounded drowned out. It didn’t sound like a concert nor a construction site. (It might have if I didn’t have ear protection.) and it also depends on the machine you get in. (If it’s old or new.) mine was a newer one. It just kind of sounded like the microwave at home and I heard music. The music wasn’t that loud. Just normal volume. And I heard them speak which was somewhat loud, but not that loud. It never made me jump nor did it make my heart beat. Just heard a few weird noises around me and saw a bright light. I wasn’t all the way in the tunnel, just about half way. It felt pretty roomy and I could see out of it a little. It didn’t hurt my ears at all. And just felt like an x-ray. It reminded me of being in an open microwave. It was more relaxing than scary. It got a little uncomfortable, but I moved to make myself more comfortable. And i just thought about how it wasn’t that bad and I’d be done soon. And at times, didn’t think about anything really. Just rested. I opened my eyes and closed them, but kept them closed most of the time. And then it was all over. They slid me out gently and I went home happy.
    But yeah. People over dramatize mris. I’d do it again. Not that big of a deal. Didn’t sound like a motorcycle and not quite as loud as a jackhammer. (But the sound sounded similar.) Just sounded like an annoying microwave with a radio playing. If I got comfortable and was sleepy, I could go to sleep. I’m sure the old one could be a little loud at times, but I’m sure it’s not as bad as people say. And the new one isn’t bad at all. You just lay there and get scanned. And the noises online sound louder than when you’re in the machine. It may not be pleasant to lay there and do nothing, but it really isn’t that bad. If you’re nervous and took the time to read this, I hope this helped. ❤

      @@misty4757 I just got my first MRI this morning, and I can tell you a few things to help you. One, when you first walk into the room, you will hear a swishing sound. This sound is the cooling system for the magnets and is normal. Two, when they get you all set up , you are pulled back into the MRI, and it will be a little claustrophobic. What I did was try to think of happy things like my pet hamster, and this did calm my nerves down a lot. Next, There will be a lot of sounds, some sounding very scary and intimidating, but don't worry. You get used to them after a while, and they are actually kind of fun to listen to! And finally, when you first get in, it is a little shocking. Every sound is new, so it can be a little stressful. They will tell you to breath in; exhale, then hold your breath. This is a little uncomfortable at first, but soon, you get used to it! Most importantly, don't worry! I will pray that your nerves may be calmed.

    just got it done today and honestly was pretty good! it looked exactly like this!
    - when i first went in they put me in hospital gown scrub pants but i could leave on my hoodie
    - they laid me down
    - they gave me a warm blanket which helped ground me (anxiety thingy)
    - they gave me ear plugs and then put headphones on me and let me pick my favorite radio station
    - the music literally helped so much but i would recommend having them turn it up because the machine is quite loud
    - they gave me shoulder cushions so i would be more comfortable
    - they gave me a pump thing that looked like the end of a blood pressure cuff and if i squeezed it they said they would run in and get me out (they were in the room right next door with a big window to see in)
    - she rubbed my arms and leg to calm me down
    - when they take the pictures there are a series of different sounds and they would talk to me in the headphones and tell me how long the sounds would last (2 minutes, 4 minutes.. you get it)
    - OH they also had cool air blowing in it which was very refreshing
    - they had me in there for 30 minutes without the contrast and then they slid me out and gave me a tiny iv and they put the contrast in and I thought I would feel sick but literally nothing happened so don't worry about that at all
    - after the contrast they put me in for 15 minutes to take more pictures
    - then i was done!!! results next week!
    i would recommend taking benadryl, it really calmed me down. and don't move your head or they will have to take a picture again. just lay there, focus on the music maybe lip synch a little, pretend you are in a music video. remember they have done 1000s of these and you can always get out right away. think of a nice scenario like i imagined celebrating Halloween with Chae hyungwon haha. but it felt actually refreshing and relaxing. just breathe!!

    i wish i washed this a few week ago. last month in peru and a high recommended imaging clinic i got a brain MRI hence headaches.
    clean, nice location. my spanish is OK to good. the technician told me little to no information except nicely to lay down. i noticed a cord and button at the foot of the gurney but did not know what that was for. i layer down and the head mask was put on.
    now i am 6'3" and 240 (i played college ball) ask the gurney goes into the machine my shoulders (deltoids) are squeezed against the inside of the cylinder. my arm are not only flat to my side buy under my legs and but. i was give no panic button. my panic button was to scream, i guess.
    i was OK for the most part. i was estimating what she told me of: 25mins and i kind of guessed when the test was over. when i heard the door open i "thanked god". she pulled me out with my shoulder sliding down the interior. she knew nothing of what i thought.
    then i go home to YT and see all of this. this MRI is like twice the diameter of the interior cylinder. my guess is what i had was not the newest 2024 model year.
    maybe i go back to the US? although a brain MRI cost a whopping $190 here in lima, peru.

I SLOWLY--I mean half tempo, recited Bohemian Rhapsody in my head because I know the song is about that long. "Mama, just.....killed, a.......man." Even then it was still another minute or so. The next time I had one was after a stroke and I was so discombobulated it could have been 2 hours or 5 minutes, I just remember having the MRI. I've had an open MRI and that was totally cool and 100% preferred because the feeling of being in a coffin sucks, and breathing exercises didn't help.

    I will add to the experiences in case you're about to have an MRI brain scan like me.
    I was 8/10 on the scared scale just like you might be when you get yours done. Let me just sum it up for you - it's more annoying than anything. Oh and the 12 min they show in the video is BS!!!! Mine was 36 minutes of listening to Star Wars/dial up noises and they pulled me out at about 29 minutes to inject the dye in my arm and surprisingly, it was totally painless (the shot) and then they zipped me back in. So there's this table and they have you lay down. The technician will then stick all these pads around you so no part of you is touching the sides of the tray you lay on. They use your vein just like an IV for the dye if your doctor ordered an MRI with contrast. The key thing is just to NOT MOVE AT ALL. I mean, do you want to do it again? Nope. So just close your eyes and pretend to sleep.
    Also understand they may put this Hannibal Lector mask on your face. Yeah, I didn't expect it either. It has these cutouts for your eyes but like I said before, just close your eyes and don't worry about it. The technician told me it was a sort of antenna.
    Bottom line is it just 35-ish minutes of silly noises and if you remain still and deal with that, you will be totally fine.

    I don’t know if this is filmed at the Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg Idaho. But… If it is… I went there to get an MRI scan done just to double check if things were going good in my brain and everything was fine. But… I really would like to hear a full scanning session using that MRI scanner. :-) Would it be possible for you guys to do that? I’ve been trying to find what the MRI scanner that I was in sounded like. I remember that there was a repetitive series of notes that sounded like someone playing an E on the piano and… I remember that there was a part of the scan that sounded like I was in a video game. :-) It had a series of high-pitched beeps that also sounded like they were on the same note as the other one. :-) It was very cool. :-)

It's extremely uncomfortable if you have any spine or joint problems, and the techs act like it's no big deal for anyone...I don't consider myself claustrophobic, first time in an MRI I was extremely uncomfortable, I'm getting another one soon and I'm very less than excited about it 😑 good thing I have my mmj card now. If radiologists really believe gadolinium in the body is safe. Send out the disclaimer documents along with the full name of the contrast weeks prior to the procedure, so patients can make an informed decision at their leisure, as opposed to 5 mins before the procedure. which is absolutely ridiculous. Im guessing most radiologists know of chelated gadolinium risks and would not have it injected in them selves.

      It depends on the scan being done whether head or feet go in first. There are scans such as a head, cervical spine and thoracic spine that the patient would need to go in head first due to the coil used. We can give the patient the option on several scans to go in feet first, for the comfort of the patient, in cases of claustrophobia. If you have any concerns always feel free to ask your Technologist if you can go in feet first. In reference to your link about the patient going in feet first, I could not tell you for sure but maybe that is specific to that places scanner.
