@MRMILO57 The drought here has finally broken (and in a huge way). While many will not complain about the drought breaking due to the force it broke (major flooding) many farmers are still no better off. Floods have ruined crops that will take years to recover (especially fruit) and the floods swept away and killed many cattle and other farm animals. Those that live have very little green grass. It's ther farmers I feel for.
We missed that rain unfortunately. Still waiting on rain. Almost to the point of just walking off the land now. Hopefully out saving grace will come soon. Can’t take much more
I think it is not reported because it has been going on for so long. That is part of the reason why the February fires here were so bad......everything was so dry from the drought and due to high temps the CFA and forestry here was unable to do regular burn offs of the bush undergrowth to prevent a bad fire.
Hello yoeeb, Does not look good for mildura , with clmate change creating havoc with the rain falls in the southern states of this great country of ours, melb water levels down to 28% and a population near 4million whats it going to be like in 20 years from now with global tempartures raise by 2c
Obviously you do not know much about Australia. To water the plants like you suggest requires irrigation and it is the irrigation here in many parts of Australia that has caused a major salinity issue and most outback areas where drought is ongoing chooses cattle because they require less water that plants.
If the water given to the animals were used directly to water plants instead of first growing the plants, then feeding up lots of animals for food consumtion. I know it is unrealistic for people to make rational changes in their lifestyle..
Global warming is a contributor. But to suggest everyone become vegetarian is simply silly, because plants need just as much water as the livestock. Livestock last better in droughts, wheat farmers and the like loose an entire years salary.
I hope it will start raining soon in Australia were it is needed. Isnt some of the problem man-made so to speak? Australia has over 20 million inhabitants, maybe time to end the growing population? If people stopped to eat animals it would save enourmos amounts of water instead of feeding up lots of animals and so forth..

I'm not worried about this drought at all. I have a kick-ass SUV and I'll just fill it up with gas and drive to find some water wherever. Cool!
