Barriers work. I used snow fencing for the first 6 months after I adopted a high energy Lab/Golden mix. What really worked though was walking my dog for miles to burn that puppy craziness. Then taking the time to teach her where the out of bounds were in my gardens and the areas she was welcome. You will need to set the tone, be consistent and let her know that you “own” the garden beds. Over time they learn and become your garden buddy.
Hello the garden looks great. 🌱Evergreens as wind breaks 🌱A tired dog is a calmer dog. Taking her for a run, long walks or a treadmill. 🌱Gate an area where she can run around without access to your veggie garden. 🌱Netting helps keep cats from using beds as litter boxes.
I have summer varieties (a mix now) on the other trellis. A bit more work to tie in the floricanes with summer fruiting but it's worth it for the earlier harvest!
I also have a very high energy dog that loves to play in the garden! He mostly stays out the beds, but a couple that are more vulnerable I’ve just put a stake in each corner and gone round approx 1 & 2 foot high with some rope. He certainly could jump over it but it’s enough to make him think and not just charge through! Also means I have some plant supports already in situ for anything growing near the corners of the beds - my garden in Dumfriesshire is really windy too 😅
Your garden looks great. Re: Josie, how about a lovely decorative fence around thr perimeter of your growing area? Light and airy, metal prefabricated you can buy on line. Different designs available. My friend has the same issue with her 2 golden retrievers, she uses that type of fencing.
Hi there Tanya I've been doing my planning too. This includes some honest reflection on a poor tomato harvest last year. I'm going back to varieties that work in my sunny Sussex garden, such as Costoluto Flo. and NOT using unfinished(?) homemade compost. Cucumbers have been a surprising success outdoors. Just need to keep picking! Your lovely dog. No need for a physical barrier approach IMHO. A dog-walking schedule, in a big space with treats and contact with other dogs should make a vegetable garden seem very uninteresting for a canine. Love your channel.
Josie gets definitely gets plenty of stimulation, socialising, and exercise. Way more than most dogs and believe me, she still has plenty of mischief and energy on top of that 😂
I started gardening five years ago and this year I am using all my older seeds and I come fall I plan to purchase only our favorite seeds so next year I can begin saving seeds once I learn how to properly save each type. Can you do a series on properly saving seeds this year? I have much to learn.
That is such a good plan! I'm whittling down, too, and only growing crops and varieties that we LOVE. There's no point in growing things that you're not excited about. I can do a video, but I'd like to recommend a book that has excellent, detailed information on saving seeds for every type of vegetable. It's called Back Garden Seed Saving by Sue Strickland. You can find it in the UK here amzn.to/4hzjhDS (affiliate link). I have it on my bookshelf, and it's a GEM of a book.
Can you build the dog her own obstacle course to keep her busy running through it for a little reward? That breed are very intelligent so probably need lots of stimulation or more than other breeds do. 🐕

Excellent advice - thank you!
We had the same issue with our energetic puppy, we raised the beds, so he now runs around them rather than through them!
Raised them with wooden edges? Smiling here thinking of your pup weaving around them but still running :)
most enjoyable video tanya

I plant summer bearing raspberries and love tying them to my wire trellis in the fall.Great video look forward to the next one.

@@Lovelygreens yes, I enjoy tying them in it gives me a reason to be in the garden In the fall.
Your garden is looking beautiful..
It's rather bare at the moment but will soon fill back in :) Thank you!

That's a really good idea! Thanks for sharing and you may just see me borrow your idea. Sounds wind-proof, too! ha
@ yess being windproof is definitely a benefit and easy access to the beds! Hope it works for you!
Cheeky Josie! ❤
Very!

You could plant a willow fence around the garden. Living fence.

I had to stop growing corn because every year a huge thunderstorm would come and blow them all over right when they were tasseling.
It's so disappointing! I understand how you feel.

She definitely does 💚😂

I'm interested in your right angle cover supports. Did you make them or purchase?
They're fab! I purchased them here: gardening-naturally.link/htr8s
Is it not possible to fence around the vegetable garden to keep Josie out? Saves you haven’t to cover each bed
I don't think that's what I'm aiming for at this moment.
Barriers/fencing and intensive training are the only things that are going to work to keep the puppy out of the beds.
Thank you - you're spot on, I think.
Hello ❤❤❤
To keep dogs out of garden beds, barriers work. Gardener Scott uses arched fencing over his raised beds.
I use slug collars for my cats . Maybe it might work for your dog
Slug collars for your cats?
@Lovelygreens yeah they don't walk over them and use the beds as toilets. They walk around them
