How does cancer immunotherapy work?

- Traditionally, cancer treatment has revolved around chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. But thanks to groundbreaking immune checkpoint blockade research led by Jim Allison, Ph.D., winner of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, we have a new way to treat cancer: immunotherapy. Rather than treating the cancer directly, immunotherapy trains the immune system to attack cancer.
With immunotherapy, MD Anderson is able to effectively treat bladder cancer, head and neck cancers, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, kidney cancer, non-small cell lung cancer and melanoma. And through clinical trials, we’re expanding immunotherapy to treat more types of cancer and exploring more types of immunotherapy every day.

I've been getting immunotherapy for almost 2 years now for stage 4 lung cancer. Without it I know I wouldn't be here.

Some cancer cells have the ability to shut off killer T cells. Can immunotherapy prevent that from happening?

My mum used to have cervical cancer 7years ago. She’s ben treated by Chemotherapy. A few months ago she double check with doctor and confirm that cancer is gone, but now doctor suspect her cancer return. Is it ok for her to use this method of immunotherapy? Is it widely used in countries like Cambodia or Thailand yet?

I have non small cell lung cancer stage 4 a mutant gene causes this. I take medication to suppress the gene. He said after a while the medication won’t work anymore. It’s been two years last November. Everytime I go for the CT scan I’m worried
