    Your tests were valuable and informing. Thanks for doing them.
    When I shop for LEDs, I am looking for highest Lumens, accomplished with lowest Watts. If a seller does not mention Lumens at all, I will not even consider them. To me, High Watts as bragging rights seem like a hold over to the older Incandescent bulbs.
    That being said, I don't even know how to test Lumens to check if their marketing hype is correct.

    • @MiniMachines1
      @MiniMachines1  4 года назад +3

      I think that sounds like an good way to look for lights on Ebay, you could buy an light meter to test the lumen, but than it's all about what distance they measured there lumen from.
      After buying some leds over the years I think the one I test from 2015 48w that is 39w is one of the best ones, it gives an awsome amount of light and are cheap. and I do love the 12w ones.

    • @Larsema1
      @Larsema1 4 года назад +3

      You can not test lumen with just a lightmeter. You are thinking about testing lux from a distance, but lux just tells you about how strong the light is in one point, no the total amount of light (lumen). For that you need to collect all the light in a sphere.
      The test you did with the camera is a good example how you could measure total amount of light if you have a lightmeter in the camera, or if you put a luxmeter instead of the camera and measure the reflected light from the wall. But you have to turn the garagelight of when you measure the light, or it will add to the result. You also have to remove the black banner on the wall because it wil absorb a lot of light in the focuspoint witch will reduce the amount of reflected light a lot from well focused lights.
      Thanks for a nice video. It's intresting to se witch products are worth buying.
      Would be great if you could put links to the lights yous tested. At least your favorites.

      @@Larsema1 Good idea will put up some links for my favorites :) I'll stick with the watt test easy and with the photos from the camera you get an idea of the different amount of light. More expensive lights, like with real Cree diodes, is a little different.
      I'm thinking about building a box with white walls for measuring the amount of lux reflected from different lights. Not for an exact value of lumen, but to compare the lights with each other.
      Your wall and camera works too!
      Thanks for interesting videos!

      24V isn't likely to make them any brighter/increase wattage.
      The LEDS don't use anywhere near even 12V.
      There's a driver circuit inside them that has an input voltage of between 10-32V but has a constant say 6V output.
      Obviously increasing voltage will reduce the input current but the wattage shouldn't really change.

      Not that I know of, the cheap ones give a lot of light but it's more close to the car not where you would like it with an high beam far from the car. You get so much light in close to the car with them so it's hard to se the light that is far from the car. But I've only tested a few so might be some cheap that works. Best so far is xenon extra lights, but some cheap that's for halogen and install a xenon kit in them that gives you great high beam lights, but dosen't look good at all cars...

      It's not going to make them brighter though, the LEDs use less than 12V anyway, there's a driver circuit built into them to reduce the voltage internally to the voltage required.
      The 32V limit is just the driver circuits maximum input voltage.

      Hei og takk for det, Danmark er nok mitt favoritt land å feriere i trives veldig godt der. Ja er klar over at watt ikke er rette måten å måle lysstyrke på, men det var beste måten å sjekke om det selger påstår i annonsen sin stemmer, å sjekke om selger oppgir rett lumen er vanskeligere for da må man vite litt mer om hvordan dem måler lumen som dem oppgir i annonsen. Mens watt er enkelt å måle :)

    Trouble is you are measuring power not light emitted. Just to confuse the issue they often say Xwatts comparible to Z watts incandescent which is comparing power consumed not really light emitted. Lumens is a more applicable unit of measurement when after how much light a fixture gives off. Even that is distorted by the manufacturers in the specifics (spot, flood, distance, color etc). For what you are using these for I would also specify the light be "daylight" or 7000 Kelvin for maximum useful light per lumen. What we are all looking for is the most efficient means of producing the most useful light in a spectrum we can use. As they say, "If it is advertising it is lying" same as a politician talking. How do you know they are lying? Because their lips are moving!

    • @MiniMachines1
      @MiniMachines1  3 года назад +1

      That's true, but I measured the watt against the watt the seller said it would have, so it's apples against apples 😉

    • @bennylloyd-willner9667
      @bennylloyd-willner9667 2 года назад

      Measuring Lumen is cumbersome and expensive to do. One test that is a bit easier is to measure lux at a specific distance. LED bars often have at least two numbers 1 lux distance, and 0,25 Lux distance. Of course, that doesn't measure the amount of light, just only the intensity at one spot but it is still a pretty easy comparable thing. Most proper manufacturers nowadays write theoretical Lumens and actual Lumens where the theoretical is just the LED bead stated Lumen times the number of beads used in light. Measuring Lux at distance straight from the light AND measuring Lux at fixed angles (30, 60, 90 perhaps) and distances would be a good way to get a comparison of the amount of light one actually can use from a LED light since it depends on what purpose the light has, a working light should give most light on a wide angle but not necessarily very far away, etc.

      IMO it's really hard to say "same ones" with certainty since manufacturers in this category copy/steal from each other wildly. A LED bar that looks identical to another can have different LED beads and/or LED driver electronics. Even bad soldering can influence light output so not only components but also the manufacturing process can make a big difference, especially when we go to the high-power ones. Even the exact same Ebay-listing can contain a new batch of lights that can be better or worse than earlier batches. It's a lottery, I have won and lost thru the years buying Ebay/Amazon/Ali Express lights. My next light for the car will probably be an X-Vision D MAXX from a genuine Swedish seller (I live in the dark Värmland forests 😁)
      @Mini Machines: great video 👍 I would love to see a new video with some Lux measurements, it doesn't have to be an expensive, perfectly calibrated Lux meter as long as you use the same one for all tests, the relative numbers are the important ones in my book.
