Love this video! Thank you for sharing it. I lived in Mexico for 18 months with a one yr old child. It was the best experience of my life; Nothing like how the news portrays it.
I had a relatively pleasant and similar experience in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. At the time- and currently right now in August, 2024- the U.S. government had Tamaulipas on the "Do not travel to" list due to "crime and kidnapping". However, I went during the daytime and stayed in view of people and felt safe. I even took out my laptop out at a square to look at some things, and was approached by a curious vendor. No tengo confianza en el gobierno de los EE UU. I stopped for lunch in Church's Chicken in Nuevo Laredo since I figured it would be a break from Spanish. Nope. It may as well have been called Pollo de Iglesia because the employees could not speak English. I did have my passport, though, and have seen a family member go through a similar process of having a border agent get pissed when they only had their driver's license... but that was coming from Canada. The walk back across was only around a 10 minutes wait at the International Bridge Number 1 - Las Americas (Nuevo Laredo-Laredo) bridge on Convent Ave. People often take advantage of services or businesses on another side of the border within the timeframe of a day.
