- In this video I will show you how not to use your camera trap. This time of the year we have some winter storms, which cause some problems for my camera trap. Unfortunately this time the problem was much bigger than I expected.

Some very strong images. Worth the sacrifice.
Thank you very much Arthur 🙏🙏🙏😊 yes, I'm happy with the images 😊
Hello Alfred, I am really sorry to see that you lost all the equipment . It was nice to see that you still had some beautiful images. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you very much for your nice comment Nanco. 🙏🙏🙏😊 yes, at least I got some nice images 😁 greetings from Northern Norway 🇧🇻
Beautiful images Alfred and sorry for the loss of your equipment.. unfortunately such are the hazards of camera trapping. I look forward to seeing more of your otters..! best wishes to you.. g
Thank you very much 🙏🙏🙏😊 yes, at least I got some nice images 😁 Now I just need to replace the equipment and hope that the otters are still around. 😊 with all the best wishes from Northern Norway 🇧🇻
Great images Alfred
Thank you very much Pascal 🙏🙏🙏🙏😊 have a nice weekend 😊🇧🇻
The last thing I felt like doing was 'have a little laugh' Alfred. Tragic loss of kit Alfred but some cracking images of the otters in that wonderful environment.
Thank you very much Robert 🙏🙏🙏😊 yes, at least I got some nice images 😁 have a nice sunday 😊
Wow, that's a bummer.
Yes, a huge bumper 😁
Well - that hurts!
For me it is not about the money or the costs of the equipment.
It is more about the loss itself.
Even when it will not "kill" your bank account to get new used equipment it is just a waste of energy, emotions and time.
I'm always sad when I loose something that offers joy and satisfaction to me even when it just costs a few bucks. I have a connection to my stuff and I don't buy anything without real need. So it always feels like loosing more than just material.
Thank you for this upload, Alfred.
It reminded me to take care about "whatever" I own.
Thank you very much for comment 🙏🙏😊 I completely agree that to loose some equipment is not about the money, but the equipment itselfs. I learned a lesson and try to take better care of my equipment in the future. 😊 greetings from Northern Norway 🇧🇻
Painful! The images were great, though. You are really refining the set-up. I especially liked the ones before it was getting too dark.
Thank you very much for your comment 🙏🙏🙏 I get more and more satisfied with the images adter I've done some changes in the settings. I just hope that the otters will be around for some time. 😊 greetings from Northern Norway 🇧🇻
Sorry to see that you lost your equipment, looking forward to the next ones of the Otter, hopeffully you can help me by showing your set-up details, as one day I hope to also try trapping the Otter, love your work, best wishes Keith
Thank you very much for your comment Keith 🙏🙏🙏😊 The settings for my night camera are right noe: 0.3sec, f/2.8, ISO2500-3200. For my day camera I use 1/100sec, f/7.1, ISOAUTO. I do change my settings a lot. Depends on the weather and light conditions. 😊
@Alfred Lucas thank you so much for this, looking forward to your next blog, love your work.👌👍😊
Oh, I am really sorry- You lost some good equipment there! I am glad You could save som of the photos. And they were really great!
I did exactly the same thing at my first attempt with my camera trap for the otter, but did not get any photos worth keeping at all.
I am glad to see You keep the spirit! 👍👍
Thanks Svein. 🙏🙏 It's just a little bump in my photo project and I'm just back from the beach placing a new camera trap 😁 Sometimes a wildlife photographer need to take some risks to get a certain kind of image. 😉
That is true, and that's the spirit!! 👍🤞👍 Good luck with the project!
I'm so sorry to hear that you had such bad luck with your camera trap 😢
Thanks Gary. 🙏🙏😊 My own mistake and I got some nice images 😁
Me too. Such great pictures during the last couple of years. Hope you‘ll get soon new used equipment. 🤞🤞🤞
@@wolfgangrieger1246 thank you very much 🙏🙏🙏😊 I already placed a new camera trap today 😁
Ouch. So sorry to see that. It’s dreadful. Are the lenses sealed? May be worth putting them in distilled water. Not going to make them any worse😮I use Fixation in London. They are brilliant for repairing stuff. Love the otter pics at the end. Good luck.
Thank you very much 🙏🙏😊 yes, the lenses are sealed, but not for being under water 🙄 the tide was so high that everything was for several hours under water. It's beyond repairing 😁 greetings from Northern Norway 🇧🇻
We had some horrific storms in California December and January and one of my dslr cameras, trigger and flash units knocked over and flooded. I opened my camera box and water poured out and then removed camera lens and water poured out of camera. Flashes
flooded too. I put everything in zip lock bags of rice for a few weeks and camera and trigger worked perfectly! Flashes, unfortunately not salvageable.
That's the game. My cameras were under sea water and with minus degrees celsius everything was even frozen. Couldn't save anything. 😊
Ouch!! That must have been some storm. I had my camera trap damaged by cattle not so long ago, but nothing on this scale. I am amazed you found your equipment and even more amazed by the wonderful images you managed to retrieve from the SD card. Regards John.
The winter storms can be very streng in the North and I should have thought about it. I was very happy to find the equipment so I could at øeast get some images out of this situation. 😊 greetings from Northern Norway 🇧🇻
Does the flash not bother the Otter when it fires? Thanks for sharing
In the beginning the otter was a bit jumpy about the flash and tried to pull the fish away. Now the otter don't mind at all. 😊
