Yeah, the virus is rough. Last year was actually very productive for me, but this year I've gone through so much medical heck, it's really hard to have any motivation.

I definitely agree with you! Something that inspires me is music and photography. If I take a scroll through such things, I can almost instantly become inspired!

I'm glad you are sharing with us what works for you AND have touched on the being well physically and how this has an affect on the mental /creative process sometimes. And sometimes being creative can heal your mind also, this is why I love to paint.

I agree you can't force creativity when you're in a rut or not mentally there. I once painted an abstract painting and posted it on facebook not knowing people would want to buy it. I had alot of people wanting to purchase it. Young as I was I said yes to everyone and in demand I painted so many of it I was just physically exhausted even though I know what I was painting I didnt even enjoy it. Alot of those people at the same time did request me to paint what they want to I said yes to all which is just exhausted. I didn't know any better before and totally it is helpful that you voice out that rest is needed or some inspiration and make sure you are okay. Thanks Katie

Hi Katie, I am in a creative rut right now. I don't have inspirations and I'm mentally tired. Painting it's relaxing for me but I just want to sit down on the couch and do nothing. I hate this feeling. I'm going to follow your tips and get my sketchbook right now. Thanks for this video Katie!

I took a look at your website and it's so lovely! You're such an inspiration 💕 When I'm in a creative rut, I usually take a few days off from social media and creating and instead do other things that make me happy and get out and explore. Then a few days later, I find that I'm rested and I start painting again. Even if I still feel a little uninspired and in a rut, I make myself paint anyways because I've found that inspiration returns once I start creating!

Hi Katie, I’m trying to manage more effectively ME/CFS that I’ve had 20 years and what you said is the same for me and those like me. I love creating and can’t wait to be well enough to paint but until then I’ve started sketching slowly for 2 x 15 min sessions in the evening when I usually feel easier. It’s so therapeutic! In the afternoon I love watching your channels and drawing channels. So thank you, lovely Katie, you really help with what you do. X

Revamped site looks great! Timely video too thank you. Things are very busy and my stress levels are very high and I'm overwhelmed with all that's going on and that needs to get done in the next few weeks and when that happens my creativity takes a nose dive. I also need to redo my art space and I'm hoping that will help when all this busy time is behind me.

Hi Katie. Thanks for another Fab and informative video. You are so right about the way it seems a normal, accepted, way of modern life to be forever exhausted. Creative, and non creative people all over seem to be struggling with work, life balance. Unfortunately, it's an all too common fact. Like yourself, we tend to try to reconnect with nature. Even just sitting with a cuppa watching a bird flit about is uplifting. Nature and being outdoors is so good for one's physical and mental wellbeing.Who cannot be inspired by what mother nature has given us🐝🐞🌻🌱🌳. We need to step back, take a breath of fresh air and let our minds be inspired by what is all around us, for free...🤗💖.

You explained that so well & I love the analogy about mental energy, physical energy & inspiration. As a sufferer of multiple illnesses, each of which have the symptom of being chronically tired, it gave me something to think about when I'm being unproductive - Am I physically tired or mentally tired today? Or am I just uninspired/bored? I think I'll have more frequent productive days if I ask those questions. It's good that you have an awareness of your mental & physical health, as so many artists exhaust themselves in both ways. Good luck with your fancy new website too, it looks great :)

Thank you for commenting this. I’m in the same boat as you. My time painting is usually limited to an hour at a time at most, and I have to stop and rest several times throughout the day while I paint. This can REALLY slow down my process bc just when I’m getting into a creative groove, my body tells me to stop. I’m getting more accustomed to my physical energy limitations, but I’ve been struggling the past couple days with my mental energy and inspiration and didn’t realize until now. It’s nice to know somebody else out there knows the feeling!
